Reason Sentinel Adulticiding support a polygon no spray layer. Adulticiding mobile software warns the driver when they are approaching a no spray zone so they can turn off the sprayer. Because no spray locations can come from a variety of sources in a variety of formats, Sentinel users benefit from the ArcGIS platform and its flexible variety of tools that can be used to create these no spray zones. Solution This support note will discuss several methods of creating no spray zones for Sentinel GIS> 1. Start with a list of addresses in Excel. Verify the data includes Address, City, State, ZIP. 2. Use ArcCatalog to geocode the addresses using ArcGIS Online and create a point layer. 1 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
3. Sign into your ArcGIS Online account. (To geocode more than 10 addresses, you ll need your own address locator or an ArcGIS Online account to access Esri s World Geocoder Service.) If you have an ArcGIS Desktop license, you can contact Esri Customer Service to get a free ArcGIS Online account with the same number of desktop users that you have. 4. Browse directly to the Excel spreadsheet in ArcCatalog, right click, and choose Geocode Addresses. Note: Make sure the Excel file, the sheet name, and all column headings have no spaces in them first. 2 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
5. Select the World Geocode Service (ArcGIS Online). 6. Verify the Address Input Fields, and specify an output shapefile or feature class. 3 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
7. Press OK go start geocoding. 8. If addresses are tied or unmatched, go into the Rematch interface to correct issues. (These tools are well documented in ArcGIS Online Help.) When you are finished geocoding, you have a point layer representing the addresses. You want your drivers to be warned about the No Spray areas before they get to them, so next you ll buffer these points by 300 to create a polygon layer that Sentinel can use. 9. Open ArcMap and add your geocoding results layer to your existing Sentinel Adulticiding map. 10. Now choose Geoprocessing > Buffer 4 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
11. Select the point layer as the Input Features, and specify the Output Feature Class as NoSpray inside your SentinelGIS geodatabase. 12. If this layer already exists, you will get a red X that it will be overwritten. In Geoprocessing Options allow Overwrite the outputs of geoprocessing operations. 5 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
13. The NoSpray layer is added to your current map. Remove the geocoding result layer.now I ll tell Adulticiding about my new No Spray Zone layer. Another option is to select parcels that are known to be no spray zones then import those into the NoSpray layer. You can select the parcels manually, or by using the Select by Location tools in ArcMap. 1. In ArcMap, add a parcels layer along with your geocode result from the previous steps. 2. Go to Selection > Select by Location. 6 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
3. Select the parcels using the geocode points. Choose the within rule. Press OK to select the parcels. 4. In the Table of Contents, right click the parcels layer and choose Data > Export Data. 7 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
5. Create the output layer NoSpray in the geodatabase if it doesn t already exist. (If you already have a no spray layer, save this one somewhere else and then use the Load Data command in ArcCatalog to combine them, or follow the instructions below in the Adding No Spray Features to an Existing Layer section.) There are several ways to add more features to an existing No Spray layer. Some of these are pictured below. 1. Search for an Address then draw in a new no spray feature. a. Click the Find tool on the Main toolbar b. Switch to the Locations tab and type in the address then press Find 8 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
c. Right click the result(s) and select an option to help you locate the address on the map. 2. Draw in a new no spray polygon a. Start an edit session b. In the Create Features dialog, select NoSpray and select the Circle construction tool 9 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
c. Click the center of the proposed circle on the map and drag to draw. The radius displays in the lower left in the status bar. 3. Double click to finish the polygon. 4. If you d like to fill in attributes for the no spray polygon, use the Attributes button and dialog. 5. You can draw in no spray polygons of any shape using the other polygon tools. 6. You can also copy/paste polygons from other layers. For example, you can select a parcel and copy it into the NoSpray layer. a. Use the Editor > Select tool b. Select the parcel / polygon feature from another layer 10 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
c. Press the Copy button on the Standard Toolbar d. Press the Paste button on the Standard Toolbar e. Select the NoSpray layer to paste the feature into f. Fill in attributes if desired for the new NoSpray feature g. You can also buffer the feature after it s pasted. Note: make sure you know what your coordinate units are; if you are unsure, put the units in the distance, e.g. ft. 7. Save your edits and stop editing. 1. Make sure the No Spray Zone layer is set and the distance is configured. Go to Adulticiding > Set No Spray Zone Layer. 11 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
2. Lastly, ensure that the No Spray Zone Layer is included in the Extract for Mobile Devices. 12 Copyright 6/2015 Electronic Data Solutions, P.O. Box 31, Jerome, ID Ph. (208)324
