14 Traditional surveying collects individual points in a three dimensional coordinate system with each point assigned a X, Y, and Z coordinate Point Clouds are a collection of millions of points, which together, form a model of reality. The points are set in a three-dimensional coordinate system and are individually defined by a X, Y, and Z coordinate and contain intensity values. When pictures are taken, each point is assigned a color value, similar to assigning a color value to a pixel in a picture.

20 Pavement Analysis Analysis of the number of cracks in each frame is calculated and a Crack Index is determined with a number value from The LiDAR data is analyzed for depth or ruts or cracks and a number is assigned to each rut or crack with the depth of the rut or crack in the pavement.
21 Asset Collection Poles, fire hydrants, power lines, street signs, gas markers or utility markers, or any above ground features can be collected and categorized for input into a GIS system. Methane monitors, infrared, or a number of other external sensors can be mounted to the unit for post analysis and synchronization to the LiDAR data.
22 Automatic DTM Creation A grid of points can be created at any interval to create a DTM for design or drainage analysis.
23 Record of Existing Site Conditions Using ArcGIS Explorer, a free program, and an extension, data can be viewed and and recorded for record keeping or future virtual site visits.

27 Mobile LiDAR produces large datasets in a short amount of time. Allowing for quick, safe collection of data. Mobile LiDAR can provide cost savings through volume. Typically one person in the office can collect what 2 or 3 can collect in the field in the same amount of time. Dangerous intersections or busy streets can be mapped without the need for traffic control or putting surveyors in danger. If additional data is needed, no repeat visits are needed, the data is readily available. Questions?
