3 Lesson 2 Reteach Draw Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Parallel lines Lines that are always the same distance apart. They will never meet. Intersecting lines Lines that meet or cross each other. 4 Lesson 4 Reteach Classify Angles Angles are formed by two rays that have the same endpoint. A right angle forms a square corner. It measures 90. It is formed by perpendicular lines. An acute angle is smaller than a right angle. It measures greater than 0 and less than 90. An obtuse angle is bigger than a right angle. It measures greater than 90 but less than 180. Classify each angle as right, acute, or obtuse Grade 4 Chapter 14 Geometry
5 Lesson 5 Reteach Measure Angles When measuring an angle, lay the center of the protractor on the vertex of the ray. Align the ray with the straight edge of the protractor. Follow the second ray to read degree of angle, 35. Use a protractor to measure each angle Grade 4 Chapter 14 Geometry 113
6 Lesson 6 Reteach Draw Angles Draw a 75 angle. You can use a protractor to draw angles. Step 1 Make a vertex and draw a ray for one side of the angle. Step 2 Line up the protractor. Make a dot at the 75 mark. Step 3 Draw the other ray of the angle by connecting the vertex to the dot you made at the 75 mark. 7 Lesson 7 Reteach Solve Problems with Angles If the measure of an angle is not given, sometimes you can figure it out by adding or subtracting known measures of other angles. Find the value of n n The value of n is the total of the two angles shown. One angle measures 30, and the other angle measures 20. n = = 50 So, the value of n is 50. 8 Lesson 8 Reteach Triangles Triangles can be classified by the measure of their angles. A right triangle has one right angle. The right angle is formed by two sides that are perpendicular. An acute triangle has 3 acute angles. (Remember: An acute angle measures less than 90.) An obtuse triangle has 1 obtuse angle. (Remember: An obtuse angle measures more than 90.) Classify each triangle as right, acute, or obtuse Grade 4 Chapter 14 Geometry
9 Lesson 9 Reteach Quadrilaterals All quadrilaterals have 4 sides and 4 angles. A square has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles. A rhombus has 4 equal sides. Its opposite sides are parallel. A rectangle has 4 right angles. Its opposite sides are equal and parallel. A trapezoid has exactly 1 pair of parallel sides. A parallelogram has opposite sides that are equal and parallel. Classify each quadrilateral in as many ways as possible This quadrilateral has opposite sides that are equal and parallel. What quadrilateral is it? 5. True or false. 10 Lesson 10 Reteach Draw Lines of Symmetry Follow these steps to find out if a figure has symmetry. Trace Figure A, and cut it out. Fold it along one of the dashed lines. The two halves match. The dashed line is a line of symmetry. Unfold the figure. Fold the figure along the other dashed lines. The halves match, so all the lines are lines of symmetry. The square has 4 lines of symmetry. 11 Lesson 11 Reteach Problem Solving: Make a Model Malia drew a triangle. One angle measures 60, and another angle measures 30. What kind of triangle did Malia draw? Step 1 Understand What facts do you know? Malia drew a triangle. One angle measures 60. Another angle measures 30. What do you need to find? I need to find what kind of triangle Malia drew. Step 2 Plan Step 3 Solve Make a plan. I will make a model to solve the problem. Carry out your plan. I know that one angle measures 60. So, I will draw a 60 angle. Step 4 Check I know that another angle measures 30. So, I will draw a 30 angle. 30 The final angle is a right angle. I can tell because the line segments that form the angle are perpendicular.
