1 In Maths, each class is allocated to a grade. The work for each grade for this half term is outlined on the following slides. You need to know which grade you are learning about to know which section to look at.
2 Grade 1
3 GRADE 1: FRACTIONS Write down what fraction of a shape is shaded. Shade a shape using a fraction. Identify equivalent fractions. Write fractions that are equivalent to each other. Write a fraction in its simplest form. Use a calculator to simplify a fraction. Calculate a fraction of an amount (with a numerator of 1). Add fractions with the same denominators. Subtract fractions with the same denominators.
4 GRADE 1: STATISTICS 2 Find the mode for a data set. Find the median for a data set. Find the mean for a data set. Find the range for a data set. Understand that the mean and the range are affected by outliers. Write a conclusion based on the mean, median or mode and the range.
5 GRADE 1: PROBABILITY Decide whether outcomes are equally likely to happen. Make a list of all of the possible outcomes for an event. Find the probability for a particular outcome, giving your answer as a fraction, a decimal or a percentage. Write a list of all of the possible combinations of outcomes for two events. Use a list of combinations of outcomes to find a probability, giving your answer as either a fraction, a decimal or a percentage.

7 GRADE 2: STATISTICS Understand the difference between primary and secondary data and the good and bad points about using each of these. Understand why it is necessary to use sampling and some of the problems with this. Understand that samples are more representative if they are larger. Draw and interpret a dual bar chart. Draw and interpret a composite bar chart. Draw and interpret a multiple bar chart. Find the mean, median, mode and mean from diagrams such as bar charts.
8 GRADE 2: PERCENTAGES Find %s of amounts (multiples of 5% or 10%) when the answers are whole numbers. Increase or decrease an amount by a % (multiples of 5% and 10%). Shade a given % of a shape (multiples of 5% and 10%). Write down what % of a shape is shaded (multiples of 5% and 10%).
9 GRADE 2: GEOMETRY 2 Sketch nets of 3D shapes. Be able to visualise how nets fold to create 3D shapes. Make accurate drawings of nets of a range of 3D shapes. Draw plans and elevations of 3D shapes. Understand and use isometric drawings.
10 GRADE 2: DECIMALS Multiply decimal numbers mentally (using times tables up to 12 x 12) Multiply decimal numbers using written methods (relying on long multiplication). Solve problems involving money by working with decimal numbers, ensuring that answers are written to two decimal places when given in pounds. Know conversions between key fractions, decimals and percentages (including tenths, fifths, thirds and eighths).
11 GRADE 2: CONSTRUCTIONS & LOCI Make accurate drawings of triangles using ruler and compasses. Construct an equilateral triangle.

13 GRADE 3: PERCENTAGES Write down what % of a shape is shaded, relying on knowledge of the links between fractions, decimals and %s. Shade a given % of a shape, relying on knowledge of the links between fractions, decimals and %s. Write one number as a % of another without a calculator. Write one number as a % of another using a calculator. Calculate %s of quantities (multiples of 10% and 5%) when the answers are not whole numbers. Increase / decrease a quantity by a % when the answers are not whole numbers.
14 GRADE 3: RATIO & PROPORTION Be able to use ratios to solve problems involving conversions, scaling, mixing and concentrations. Be able to solve best buy problems by comparing equal quantities. Compare the cost of items by writing the cost of one item as a fraction of the cost of another item.
15 GRADE 3: MEASURES 1 Use compass points or three-figure bearings to describe direction. Measure the bearing of one point from another. Mark a point on a map using a bearing and a distance represented using a scale. Mark a point on a map using its bearing from two different points. Calculate a bearing using angle rules when a diagram is not drawn to scale. Calculate a back bearing.

17 GRADE 4: FRACTIONS Multiply fractions by integers. Multiply mixed numbers. Divide fractions by integers and vice-versa. Divide mixed numbers. Solve worded problems involving the multiplication and division of fractions and mixed numbers. Use a calculator to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions.
18 GRADE 4: ALGEBRA SKILLS Factorise expressions by taking out common factors (letters and numbers). Expand double brackets to create quadratic expressions, such as (2x + 1)(3x - 2). Use the index laws to multiply and divide algebraic terms involving powers. Change the subject of a formula (subject appears once). Simplify two algebraic expressions to show that they are equivalent.
19 GRADE 4: PERCENTAGES Calculate any % of a quantity without a calculator. Increase/decrease an amount by any % without a calculator. Calculate any % of a quantity with a calculator. Increase/decrease an amount by any % with a calculator. Calculate %s of amounts using a multiplier. Use a multiplier to increase/decrease amounts by a %. Solve problems involving simple interest.

21 GRADE 5: EQUATIONS Solve quadratic equations by factorising (when the coefficient of x 2 is 1). Solve simultaneous equations when the equations do not need to be multiplied. Solve simultaneous equations when the equations do need to be multiplied. Set up a pair of simultaneous equations to represent a worded problem. Solve simultaneous equations that represent worded problems and interpret the solutions appropriately.
22 GRADE 5: SEQUENCES Understand what is meant by 'geometric sequence'. Know that the nth term for a geometric sequence will always look like a x r n-1 Work out the value of any term in a geometric progression using its nth term.
23 GRADE 5: RATIO & PROPORTION Solve problems involving direct proportion using an equation of the form y = kx, where the value of k needs to be identified. Solve problems involving indirect proportion using an equation of the form y =k/x, where the value of k needs to be identified.
24 GRADE 5: PERIMETER, AREA & VOLUME 2 Calculate the surface area of a cylinder. Calculate the volume of a pyramid. Calculate the volume of a cone. Calculate the volume of a sphere. Calculate the volume of 3D shapes made from a combination of cubes, cuboids, prisms, pyramids, cones and spheres. Calculate the surface area of a pyramid. Calculate the surface area of a cone. Calculate the surface area of a sphere. Calculate the surface area of 3D shapes made from a combination of cubes, cuboids, prisms, pyramids, cones and spheres. Give answers in terms of pi and use pi in calculations.

26 GRADE 7: TYPES OF NUMBER Work out the value of negative integer indices. Work out the value of positive fractional indices. Use index laws for the multiplication and division of positive, negative and fractional indices. Understand what a surd is. Be able to simplify surds. Find the square roots of decimal numbers that are linked to square numbers.
27 GRADE 7: EQUATIONS Solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. Recognise when a geometric problem can be solved by forming a quadratic equation. Solve geometric problems by forming quadratic equations and solving these using the quadratic formula or by factorisation. Link the solutions to quadratic equations back to the context of the question, which sometimes means dismissing one of the answers. Solve equations that involve simplifying algebraic fractions.
28 GRADE 7: ALGEBRA SKILLS Be able to simplify algebraic fractions by factorising the numerator and the denominator. Change the subject of a formula (subject appears twice). Solve equations involving function notation. Be able to write more complex algebraic proofs.
29 GRADE 7: SEQUENCES Generate a geometric sequence when the nth term is of the form r n, where r is a surd. Solve more complex problems involving the nth term of sequences.
