Choose Object > Ungroup to work with the individual pieces. Shape Modes Add Combines Objects Subtract Subtracts top most object Intersect Intersection of objects remains Exclude Excludes overlap Compound Paths Two objects are selected, each with a different fill and stroke. Pathfinders Divide Breaks objects into pieces Trim Cuts top object from bottom Merge Creates one shape (must have same fill color) Crop Leaves intersection and splits top object Overlapping objects create an even/odd effect of fills and transparent areas. Altering the points of a path change the even/odd effect. Object > Compound Path > Release ungroups the objects into individual shapes. Outline Breaks objects into lines Minus Back Cuts bottom object out of top Clipping Mask With two or more objects selected, choose Object > Clipping Mask > Make to mask the bottom shapes with the top most shape.
