3 Dissemination of Cultural Heritage 2D and 3D Digitization Two different worlds in terms of complexity and potentiality 3D Scanning Despite it s small age A common practice in the cultural heritage domain 3D digitization aims towards the production of complete digital replicas 3D Data More complex in terms of Parsing, Visualizing, Manual Exploring (Virtual touring) More demanding in Processing power, Data storage facilities Still considered as supplemental material

13 Following the CARARE 3D content preparation pipeline (The CARARE Approach) Discrete steps: 1. 3D Model conversion VRML 2.0 (U3D) 2. Identify entities (POIs) in 3D scenes that reflect cultural, historical, architectural features (e.g. building or a statue) 3. Compose informative text of archaeological, historical and architectural context.

Direct access to a specific POI in the 3D scene. This approach Unburdens the user from the time consuming process of manual exploration for attempting to identify a POI in a complex 3D scene
