1 Trimble Data Imagery Utility This utility was originally released in GPSeismic Version 2015 with one thousand square kilometers of free imagery. In Version 2016 and later, the imagery is no longer free except for previews. As long as you have any size allotment on your key, you can preview your area. Free sample imagery allotments or larger imagery allotments are available by contacting Imagery allotments expire one year from the date they are applied to the license key. Placing Image Orders There are four steps to an image order: 1) Open a polygon shape file that defines the area you want imagery for. a) You can optionally preview the area at this time (see the bottom of this topic) 2) Create the job order a) There are four image feeds to choose from. These are referred to as 'Standard', 'Vivid', 'Recent' and 'Premium'. 3) Check the progress of the job order and download when ready 4) Transform the downloaded image into your local system. IMPORTANT - Steps 1, 2 and 4 require that the correct local coordinate system be selected. This would be the system that applies to the shape file in step 1. Details For Each Step 1) Open a polygon shape file that defines the area you want imagery for - This can be done by using the 'Open Shape File' menu item in the File menu. Alternatively you can lasso a polygon in QuikMap and select 'Create Polygon For Trimble Data Imagery' from the popup menu. If you do the latter, then you will be prompted to save the shape file and then asked if you want to launch the utility. If you say Yes, you will be prompted to verify the coordinate system. Only single polygon shape files are acceptable. Also, mal-formed polygons (self-overlapping) are not acceptable. Finally, areas that would result in images that are greater than 64,000 pixels in either the

2 2 north-south or east-west extent are not allowed. Assuming the polygon shape file adheres to all of these stipulations and the area is less than your current imagery allotment, you can create the order. If there is a problem refer to the status text box at the bottom of the dialog. Note that there is also information at the left bottom of the dialog that gives you information about the remaining square kilometers you have on your key, the expiration date of the allotment and the required square kilometers for the just-opened shape file: 2) Create the job order - Once a shape file is opened, the button to allow you to create the job is enabled. Once pressed, you will be issued a information dialog where you will see a summary of the coordinate system you are using, eula acceptance statements, and a text box for identifying this job order with a name. You are limited to the number of characters so define your descriptive name wisely. There are four image feeds that you can choose from. Each emphasizes image traits a little differently with regard to age, quality and cloud cover. If you are not sure which to choose, use the preview tool described at the bottom of this topic. If the job is successfully placed, you will see an indication of this in the status text box at the bottom of the

3 3 dialog. 3) Check the progress of the job order and download when ready - There are several states a job order might be in. When you highlight a order in the spreadsheet and press this button, you will see a summary of the job including its current status. If the status is 'finished', you will be asked if you want to download the file. If you do, it will be downloaded to the folder you specified at the bottom of the dialog: Once downloaded, you can proceed to verify the suggested filename and transform the image. 4) Transform the downloaded image into your local system - The downloaded file is a zip file. In it is the image in the World Mercator coordinate system. Press this button, select the zip file and the image will be transformed into you local coordinate system. Tip - This can take a long time if the image is large. It's a good time for a coffee break. The information that appears in the spreadsheet is a combination of the job name you assigned and information needed to identify your particular order in the creation and downloading process. We refer to this string as a token. The last six tokens are stored on your key. Should you place additional orders, they are stored locally on your hard drive. - If you receive a token from a colleague and must download the image locally, you can use one of two utilities in the Utility menu. There is one for Version 2016 tokens and one for the older Version 15 tokens. Preview Options You have two options for previewing the area before you place a job. 'Display Preview Of My Area' (or the 'Preview Job For Defined Area' button) will present a navigable map of the area where you can turn the various imagery layers to see how they look. There are also two layers ('Premium' and 'Recent') that depict colors which indicate how old the imagery is on this map. Because 'Standard' and 'Vivid' imagery feeds don't have viewable age layers, a second option, 'Get

4 4 Imagery Dates For Project' allows the user to get dates for a number of locations evenly spaced throughout the project area. Option 1 - Previewing A Navigable Map The first step of previewing a job is the same as it is for creating an order. You open a shape file which is a polygon depicting the area. This shape file must be in your local system, cannot be multiple polygons and cannot be self-overlapping or otherwise mal-formed. It also cannot be more than 1000 square kilometers and neither image dimension can exceed 64,000 pixels. If these tests are passed then select 'Display Preview Of My Area... from the Preview menu or the 'Preview Job For Defined Area' button: On the resulting dialog your project area will be loaded. Depending on your connection, the map might take up to a few minutes to be displayed. Layer Drawer

5 5 A list of layers can be displayed using the right drawer. This is defaulted to be displayed at load. Note carefully the small icon towards the top right of the drawer. Click this and a drawer will be hidden. Click again and all available map layers are displayed. Navigation Controls From left to right, these controls allow you to pan, zoom in to a defined rectangle, and move to and from previous displays. Zoom Control Zoom control allows you to display a certain resolution. Note carefully when you are at maximum zoom using this control, you are displaying the resolution that is contained in an image order (also known as zoom 18) so you should focus your panning at this zoom level. Data Age Legend When displaying data age layers, the colors shown can be compared to the legend to determine imagery age. Remaining Use

6 6 As you pan around and otherwise interact with the map, this will decrement. Eventually, no interaction with the map is possible. Display Polygon When the page is loaded, a KML representation of your polygon is placed in the textbox. Press the 'Display Polygon' button and it will be shown in the map. Use in the layer drawer to turn off and on. Option 2 - Getting Dates For the Standard And Vivid Imagery Feeds To get a sample of dates throughout the project area, press the one enabled button. You will be warned that accurate information will only be returned if your coordinate system selected on the parent dialog is correct. Depending on your connection, you should see a list of dates along with coordinates within one minute. At the time this help file was written, the utility was creating 36 evenly spaced points. Once you receive your dates and coordinates, you can create a CSV or point DXF file. Either can be imported into QuikMap.
