Teacher Directions You can make this project as guided or independent as needed for your class. For my more advanced students I went through the directions, showed some samples and then circulated and helped students as needed. For my classes that had a more difficult time with slope I walked through several problems with them and told them what values to plug in for x in each equation. You can have students choose their own value for x in each equation they choose, or you can pre-assign specific values for x. For students that need some guidance, I usually suggest using x values of -1, 0 and 1. This page is a little more challenging for many students. I walked through one problem with the whole class together, then had them complete the remaining two independently Hello Learning

SLOPE Stained Glass Project Directions 1. Choose 3 linear equations from each column on page 2. Circle each equation you choose. 2. Create a value table on the worksheet (pages 2-3) for each of the equations you have chosen. 3. Record the slope and y-intercept for each line on the worksheet. 4. Using the coordinates in the value tables, graph each of the equations on the graph paper provided. Extend the lines to the edges of your graph paper. 5. Neatly write the equation on each line. 6. Choose 3 of the x-intercept and y-intercept pairs from the table on page 4, Circle the pairs you choose. 7. For each intercept pair, write down the x-intercept, the y-intercept, the slope and circle whether it is a positive, negative, zero or undefined slope. 8. Graph these three lines using the x and y-intercepts as points. Extend the lines to the edges of your graph paper. 9. Neatly write the x and y-intercepts on each of these three lines. 10. Trace over the lines and equations/intercepts you have graphed with a black marker. 11. Color in the sections formed by the lines to create your stained glass window. Your 2015 Hello Learning entire page should be colored all the way to the edges. 1.

2015 Hello Learning Name: SLOPE Stained Glass Window Project Grading Rubric Worksheet (value tables, slope and intercepts) Worksheet is not turned in with the project or is turned in with many mathematical mistakes Worksheet is turned in but has several math errors Worksheet is turned in and is free of math errors Worksheet is turned in, is free of math errors, and is neatly written Lines and Labels Less than 15 lines are drawn and there are no labels Less than 15 lines are drawn and labels are hard to read and/or are not on the line All 15 lines are drawn correctly, labels are clear and on the line All 15 lines are drawn correctly, labeling is clear, on the line and outlined in black marker Color Project has no color Project is partially colored, uses a few different colors but coloring is not neatly done Project is fully colored, uses many colors, and has a colorful pattern Project is fully colored with many different colors. It has a colorful pattern and is mounted on colored paper Visual Presentation Project is sloppy, lines are not straight, and little creativity is evident Project has mostly straight lines, but the project does not look neat and is not creative Project has straight lines and a straightedge has been used. Project is neat and visually appealing Project has all straight lines, and it is clear a straightedge has been used. Overall appearance is very neat, visually appealing, and creative. 5.

Sample Solution ***Because this project allows students to make choices about which equations they use and which values they use, there is not one specific answer key On the following pages are sample answers for selected equations and values that you can use as a guide.

x = 4 x = -4 x = 6 x = -6 x = 10 x = -10 x = -2 y = 3 y = -7 y = 5 y = -10 y = 13 y = -14 y = 8 y = x + 1 y = 2x + 6 y = ¼ x 1 y = x 3 y = ½ x + 3 y = 4x + 3 y = ½ x - 4 y = -x y = -5x y = -3x -3 y = -x 2 y = -x + 4 y = -x 12 y = -x - 9 These will all give an undefined slope These will all give an zero slope These will all give an positive slope These will all give an negative slope (-10, 0), (0, 10) (10, 0), (0, -10) (-7, 0), (0, 4) (7, 0), (0, 10) (3, 0), (0, -6) (-12, 0), (0, -16) (12, 0), (0, 16) (-12, 0), (0, 16) The lines with coordinates in green will have a positive slope and the lines with coordinates in red will have a negative slope.
