2 Why Indoor Mapping? The need: As-built maps/models of indoor spaces, buildings, tunnels, plant sites etc. Any non GNSS locations.

3 Why Indoor Mapping? The challenge: Traditional static surveys and scans are costly, time consuming and disruptive. Data acquisition, processing, modeling and deliverables need to be timely, efficient and productive.

4 Why Indoor Mapping? The solution: Various indoor mobile mapping solutions acquire Lidar point cloud and photo imagery to various degrees of accuracy, precision and efficiency. Mobile Indoor mapping solutions selected depend on the required deliverables: mapping accuracy of assets, size and complexity of space to be mapped, physical constraints of space to be mapped (people, functionality of building etc.)

Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping Solution An optimal combination of technologies (lidar scanner, spherical imagery camera, inertial measuring unit - IMU, POS Computing System PCS, ergonomic platform) for capturing spatial data of indoor and GNSS-denied spaces and creating 3D, georeferenced models.

14 TIMMS Workflow Indoor modelling is done in 3 easy steps: Step 1: Collect Lidar data by walking the TIMMS cart through physical spaces Step 2: Process the data using Applanix POSPac MMS software Step 3: Create accurate models of space using building design software such as EdgeWise, Autodesk Revit, SketchUp etc.

22 LAX International Airport RESULTS Scanned 1.8 million sq. ft. in under 30 hours, reduced from 21 days using traditional tripod based Lidar method No airport closures Produced full, complete, accurate as-builts Minimal impact to airport operations Using the Applanix TIMMS platform for data collection enabled us to scan over 1.8 million sq. ft. in under 30 hours. This process would have taken in excess of 3 weeks using the traditional tripod based interior scanning methods. We really enjoyed working with the Applanix team and look forward to future projects. 23 Case Study: Pictometry/Northern Alberta THE NEED Pictometry is merging indoor georeferenced data with its library of geo referenced aerial imagery 91 building interiors (millions of square feet!) for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo must be mapped Must be fast SPECIAL CHALLENGES Many different buildings of all sizes, shapes, and functions including water treatment facilities Many buildings without elevators meaning staircases to be managed Using the old way manually tying images together this project could not have been completed. It simply would have taken too long. We needed a new way. 24 Case Study: Pictometry/Northern Alberta RESULTS Produced highly accurate digital 3D blueprints of 91 different government buildings Models built using SketchUp 3D modelling software Worldwide access for customer on Trimble Connected Community (TCC) Final models uploaded to the Pictometry Critical360 web platform The TIMMS cart performed as we hoped. We captured over 90 buildings quickly and accurately. The Applanix team was very knowledgeable in the data capture techniques and trained our staff so that we were able to complete the last several buildings of the project ourselves.
