1 MNU 3-08a - Proportion I can write proportion as a fraction, decimal fraction or percentage. 1) A fruit drink is made by mixing 20ml of orange juice with 60ml of pineapple juice. What is the proportion of orange juice in the drink? Write your answer as a fraction. 2) Another fruit drink is made by mixing orange juice and grapefruit juice. The proportion of orange juice is 40%. 60ml of orange juice is used. a) What proportion is grapefruit? (Write this answer as a percentage) b) How much grapefruit juice is used? (Write this answer in ml) 3) Shade in the first box and leave the next 3 blank. Do this for each set of 4 boxes until you reach the end of the strip. You will notice that there is 1 shaded square for every 3 white squares. So, 1 in every 4 squares is shaded. Write this as a decimal. I understand how quantities are related proportionally and how one will change when I change the other. This can help me calculate the value of one using the information provided. 1) I buy a certain number of bags of crisps. What will happen to the price if I double the number of packets of crisps that I buy? 2) My car will run for a certain number of miles when I put in 50 litres of petrol. If I only put 10 litres of petrol into my car, what will happen to the number of miles that my car will run? I can increase and decrease related quantities using proportion. 1) If I can buy 8 Maths textbooks for 84, how much will it cost me to buy 5 of the same textbook? 2) I go into the bakers and purchase 6 cakes for How much would it cost to buy 10 cakes? I can simplify ratios by dividing both sides by the same number. 1) Simplify the following ratios: a) 12:16 b) 6:27 c) 15:105 d) 21:63 I can make equal ratios by multiplying each side by the same number. 1) Multiply the ratio 3:8 by 2, to give an equal ratio 2) Multiply the ratio 4:7 by 6, to give an equal ratio I can use ratios to investigate how many shares there are, calculate the value of one share and then calculate a missing amount for that ratio. 1) Niall, Harry and Liam are in a lottery syndicate together and pay their share in the ratio of 2:6:4. One week, they win the jackpot of 14,400,000. By calculating the value of one share, find out how much each of the boys receive.

2 MTH 3-15b Formulae I can substitute a number into a formula to get the answer 1) When a = 3cm and b = 5cm, calculate P, using the formula: P = 2a + 2b 2) When h = 3, calculate C using the formula: C = 3 + 8h, I can substitute given values into a formula then rearrange to solve for a value. 1) Using the formula C = N, calculate N when C = 38 2) Using the formula C = H, calculate H when C = 43 I can use letters and numbers to create a formula that represents a problem from real life. 1) A mechanic charges 9 per hour plus a callout fee of 18. Write down a formula to find the cost C, of a job lasting h hours 2) A TV can be bought by paying a deposit of 100 and then monthly payments of 45. Write down a formula to calculate the total cost of the TV after making payments for x months. I can use diagrams to create a number pattern.

3 Using a table containing a number pattern I can create a formula that helps me calculate other values for the table. 1)

4 MTH 3-11b Area and Volume I can divide compound 2D shapes into simpler shapes to find their area involving squares, rectangles and triangles. 1) By splitting the following compound shapes up into smaller shapes, calculate the total areas. I can divide compound 3D shapes into simpler shapes to find their volume. 1) Calculate the volume of the 3D shapes below by first splitting them into smaller shapes that you can work out the volume of.

5 I can divide compound shapes into simpler shapes and choose the best method to calculate its area or volume. 1) For the shapes below, divide them into simpler shapes and choose which method (add or subtract) you will use to calculate its area or volume MTH 3-20a Interpreting Graphs I can decide if given information is reliable. 1) From the statements given below, decide which contain reliable information and which do not. Give reasons for your answer. a) Ice cream is the best food in the world b) There are 7 days in a week c) All websites are reliable d) By 2015, this school will be rebuilt e) The Xbox One will always be the latest console f) Mrs Cunningham is the best Maths teacher EVER!! I can display information in a bar graph. Danny conducted a survey of the home town of 50 different students.
