Getting Ready for Pre-Algebra or Algebra Summer Math Practice The following are practice questions to evaluate the students understanding of concepts and skills taught in seventh grade as a readiness for Pre-Algebra or Algebra. Order the numbers from least to greatest. 1. 1, 0, 2, 5, , 6.7,, Simplify the expression ( 5) ( 6) ( 3) On an exam you get two points for each question answered correctly, zero points for each question left blank, and lose one-half point for each question answered incorrectly. What is your total score on the exam if you answer 13 questions correctly, leave 7 questions blank, and answer 5 questions incorrectly? Solve x + 3 = a = h h + 12 = ( n ) 4 5 = 6n + 8

16. A pencil costs $0.27 and a pen costs $0.32. You buy six pencils and the total cost is $4.18. How many pens did you buy? 17. A farmer builds a fence to enclose a rectangular pasture. He uses 155 feet of fence. Find the total area of the pasture if it is 45.5 feet long. Write the word sentence as an inequality less than a number t is at most A number m multiplied by 4 7 is greater than You and three friends are making a gift basket. You want to keep the cost below $12 per person. Write and solve an inequality that represents the total cost of the gift basket. Solve the inequality. Graph the solution. 21. k v > If you spend at least $50 (including shipping) at an online store, you receive a $10 gift card. You want to buy CDs that cost $12.50 each. If shipping costs $5, write and solve an inequality to find the number of CDs you must buy to receive the gift card.

24. The table shows the time in minutes m to download s songs. How long does it take to download one song? Minutes Songs Tell whether the ratios form a proportion , , Solve the proportion = n + = 2 8 x There are 25 computers in a math lab. There are 6 activity booklets for every 2 computers in the math lab. How many activity booklets are in the math lab? 30. If 27% of a number is 11.34, what is the number? 31. A store sign reads, Take 90% off the original price when you take an additional 15% off the sale price, which is 75% off the original price. Is the store s sign accurate? Explain. No; because the additional 15% is taken off the sale price rather than the original price, the discount is actually less than 90% off the original price.

32. You put $1205 in an account that earns 2.5% simple interest. Find the total amount in the account after four years. Classify the angles as complementary, supplementary, or neither , , 55.8 Classify the triangle Find the value of x A scale drawing has a scale of 5 mm : 1 cm. What is the scale factor? The diameter of a circle is 28 inches. Find the circumference and area. Use for π. 7

41. Find the area of the figure. Use 3.14 for π. Find the volume and surface area of the solid Find the surface area of the cylinder. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. 44.A manufacturer wants to make a box with a volume of 72 cubic feet. a. Sketch two possible designs for the box. b. If the box is to be made out of wood that costs $4 per square foot, which of your designs would be less expensive to produce? Explain.

Write the percent as a decimal % % Write and solve a proportion or equation to answer the question. 47. What number is 45% of 60? is what percent of 160? is 0.5% of what number? In Exercises 50 and 51, use the following information. Parallelograms ABCD and EFGH are congruent. 50. Which side of EFGH is congruent to side BC? 51. Find the measure of E. ) ( ) ( ) 52. A triangle has vertices A( 1, 3, B 0, 2, and C 4, 0. Find the coordinates of the triangle after translating it down 3 units and reflecting it in the y-axis.

53. The two figures are similar. Find the values of x and y and the ratios (larger to smaller) of the perimeters and areas. 54. An original piece of artwork is 2.75 feet by 2.25 feet. A reprint of the artwork is 22 inches by 18 inches. Are the pieces similar? If so, what is the ratio of their corresponding side lengths? 55. Use the figure to find the measure of Find the measure of each angle of a regular polygon with 10 sides. 57. You want to determine if two triangles are similar. What is the minimum number of angles you need to measure to determine if the triangles are similar? Explain. 4; measure 2 in each triangle. The third angle of each triangle can be found by subtracting the sum of the measures of the first two angles from 180. Then find the value of x

Ev`aluate the expression A ladder is placed against the side of a house. The top of the ladder is 24 feet above the ground. The base of the ladder is 7 feet away from the house. Find the length of the ladder. 63. Between which two integers is 42? Explain. 64. You paint one wall in your room and leave a circle for your favorite sports team s logo. The diameter of the circle is 3 feet. a. How much tape do you need to outline the circle? b. What is the area of the wall you paint? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Find the volume of the solid. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. 65.
