1 Digits The symbols used to show numbers: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 Value The numbers a digit represents, which is determined by the position of the digits Standard Form Expanded Form A common way of the writing a number with commas separating groups of three digits. starting from the right. Ex) 3,458 A way to write a number that shows the place value of each digit. Ex)3,

2 Word Form A way to write a number using words Equivalent Decimals Decimals that name the same amount Commutative Property of Multiplication Associative Property of Multiplication The order of factors can be changed and the product remains the same. Ex) 3x5 = 5x3 Factors can be regrouped and the product remains the same. Ex) 2 x (4 x 10)= (2 x 4) x 10

3 Identity Property of Multiplication The product of any number and 1 is that number Zero Property of Multiplication The product of any number and 0 is 0 Factors Product Numbers that are multiplied to get a product The number that is result of multiplying two or more factors

4 Multiple The product of a given whole number and another whole number Underestimate An estimated sum or difference that is less than actual answer Overestimate Exponential Notation An estimate sum or difference that is greater than the actual answer A way to write a number using a base and exponent

5 Expanded Form (exponents) A way to write a number involving exponents that show the base as a factor Squared Cubed Distributive Property A name for a number to the second power A name for a number to the third power Multiplying a sum or difference by a number that is the same as multiplying each number in the same or difference by that number and adding the products

6 Base the number that is multiplied by itself when raised to a power Exponent Variable Sequence A number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor A letter, such as n, that represents a number in an expression or equations A set a numbers that follows a pattern

7 Algebraic Expression Order of Operations A mathematical phrase involving a variable or variables, numbers, and operations The order in which operations are done in calculations- parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction Least Common Denominator (LCD) Common Multiple The last common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions A number that is a multiple of two more numbers

8 Least Common Multiple (LCM) The least number that is a common multiple of two or more numbers Common Denominator A common multiple of the denominator of two or more factors Equivalent Fractions Simplest Form Fractions that have different numerators and denominators but name the same amount fraction in which the greatest common factor of the numerator and denominator is 1

9 Mixed Number Improper Fraction Reciprocal Scaling A number that combines a whole number and a fraction A fraction in which the numerator is greater than or equal to its denominator A given number is a reciprocal of another number if the product of the number is one. Ex) The number 1/8 and 8/1 are reciprocals because 1/8 x 8/1 = 1 The process of making an object proportionately larger or smaller keeping the ration of its dimensions constant

10 Three-Dimensional Shape (solid) A solid figure that takes up space Edge A line segment at which two faces meet in a solid Cube A solid with 6 flat surfaces called faces. All the faces are squares Face A flat polygon shaped surface of a polyhedron

11 Vertex Prism A Cylinder Pyramid A point at which three or more edges meet in a solid solid with two parallel bases that are the same size and same shape, a faces that are parallelograms A solid with two circular bases that are the same size, the same shape and parallel A sold with a base that is a polygon and whose other faces are triangles with a common vertex

12 Cubic Unit Cone Volume Line Plot The volume of a cube is 1 unit on each edge A solid with one circular base; the points of the circle are joined to one point outside the base The number of cubic units needed to fill a sold figure A display of data along the number line

17 Obtuse Triangle Parallelogram Trapezoid Rectangle A triangle in which one angle is an obtuse angle A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel A quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides A parallelogram with four right angles

18 Rhombus Square Coordinate Grid X-Axis A parallelogram with all sides the same length A rectangle with all sides the same length A grid that makes it easy to locate points on a plane by using an ordered pair of numbers The horizontal axis in a graph or coordinate grid
