Mrs. Popper is worried that their family has no more money left for the winter because they are spending all of their money on the penguins. 2. Mr. Popper had a good idea as to how the family would make money, what was it? Mr. Popper had an idea that if there were trained seals who balanced balls on their noses then why couldn t there be trained penguins too? So he decided to train his penguins to become a performing act too. 3. How did the penguins know when their acts began and ended? a a. the music would change b. by looking at a hand signal c. a colored flag d. a whistle 4. Why did the Poppers and their penguins go to see Mr. Greenbaum? What did they hope he could do for them? They went to go see Mr. Greenbaum because Mr. Popper knew he owned theaters around the country and thought they could perform for him in hopes that he would like the act and offer them an opportunity to make some money.

When Mr. Popper and his penguins walked through the sleeping car the penguins noticed that there were ladders, and the penguins loved ladders. So none of the penguins could resist the temptation to climb them and go into the upper berths startling all the passengers. 12. What happened when Monsieur Duval took the stage? When Monsieur Duval took the stage the penguins became very interested and walked onto the stage to watch him more closely. When the audience saw the penguins staring at him on the tight rope they broke out in laughter and made Monsieur Duval lose his balance.
