2 Disk Cleanup Note: Have all your important file backed up, before starting this process. It could take some time depending on the amount of files 1. Go to the Start button 2. Search for Disk Cleanup 3. Select Clean up System Files 4. Check all Boxes 5. When this dialog box appears, click OK 6. Wait for the cleanup to finish and it will close automatically FSW 2

3 Clear Browser Data Google Chrome 1. Launch Google Chrome 2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the clear browsing history window 3. Make sure the Time Range is set to All Time 4. Leave all the boxes checked 5. Then click Clear Browsing Data 6. Once the dialog box disappears, you are free to browse the web If the above does not work: 1. Go to the three dot symbol in the top right corner 2. Click Settings 3. Select Show Advanced Setting 4. Click Reset Settings button at the bottom of the page FSW 3

4 Clear Browser Data Mozilla Firefox 1. Launch Firefox 2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the clear browsing history window 3. Next to Time Range to Clear select Everything 4. Click the Clear Now button at the bottom of the dialogue box 5. Once the dialog box disappears, you are free to browse the web If the above does not work, reset Firefox by following the instructions on this page: Reset Firefox Settings FSW 4

5 Clear Browser Data Safari 1. Launch Safari 2. On the Top Menu bar, go to History 3. Select Clear History at the bottom 4. Select All History from the drop down menu and press Clear History FSW 5

6 Antivirus Note: There s several free antivirus/malware products on the market. Malwarebytes can be used with your antivirus. Be sure to all your important files backed up and up to date before starting the process. Malwarebytes download will begin automatically, follow onscreen instructions to install. Windows Defender is already installed on PCs. Windows 1. Uninstall old/expired antivirus programs 2. The following are suggested Antivirus/Malware Remover: A. Malwarebytes B. Windows Defender Mac 1. Uninstall old or expired antivirus programs 2. Download a Malware Remover, we suggest Malwarebytes 3. Malwarebytes installation file will download automatically 4. Open and follow the onscreen installation instructions FSW 6

7 Antivirus Windows Defender 1. Please ensure that all other antivirus programs are turned off and uninstalled before activating 2. Search for Windows Defender 3. Click settings and ensure Real-Time Protection is selected. 4. Then click save changes 5. Check for updates and then run Full Scan on your computer. It may take some time to do a full system scan FSW 7

8 Remove Unused Apps Windows Note: Only one application can be uninstalled at a time. You will need to repeat this process for each app you wish to uninstall. 1. Go to the Start button 2. Search for Apps & Features 3. On the list of applications, select one that you would like to uninstall 4. Click the Uninstall button when it appears and then again FSW 8

9 Remove Unused Apps Mac OSX 1. Go to Finder 2. Select unused Applications and malware/old applications Examples: MacKeeper, MacCleaner and MacDefender 3. Select all the applications and press Command + Delete 4. Enter admin username and password to move files to trash 5. Go to Downloads in sidebar 6. Delete any disk image or package files 7. Delete any other malware or suspicious files 8. Click the Trash can icon 9. In the top bar, hit the gear icon and select Empty Trash FSW 9

10 Update Software Windows 1. Go to the Start button 2. Navigate to Settings 3. Go to Update & Security, then Windows Update 4. Click the Check for Updates button and wait for it to finish finding the latest updates 5. If there are updates, click the Install Now button or If there are no updates, close the window FSW 10

11 Update Software Mac OSX 1. Go to the App Store 2. Click Updates in the top bar 3. Click Update All 4. You should also install macos updates, which say Free Upgrade 5. After downloading, click Restart in the pop up window to install FSW 11

12 Install Essential Apps Flash Player 1. Navigate to get.adobe.com/flashplayer 2. Uncheck the box next to Yes, install McAfee Security Scan Plus and McAfee Safe Connect 3. Click Install Now button 4. Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions Adobe Reader 1. Go to get.adobe.com/reader 2. Uncheck the box next to Yes, install McAfee Security Scan Plus and McAfee Safe Connect 3. Click Install Now button 4. Open the file, and follow the on-screen instructions FSW 12
