1 Introduction This document describes the stages for integrating EATON UPS with the administration tool "Systems Insight Manager Version 4.2 and 5". 2 Installation and configuration procedure To be integrated with Systems Insight Manager 4 or 5 ( SIM4 or SIM 5 ), a few operations are necessary within the SIM4 or 5 platform and EATON SNMP cards and agents. 2.1 SIM4 or SIM5 platform configuration: These operations must be carried out directly on the server that hosts SIM4 or SIM5 by using the package supplied by EATON. Execute the EATON package available on the EATON Web or on Management Pac 2 CD-ROM. Follow the instructions on the screen. The script file will automatically perform the following operations: Saving and compiling the MIBs: In order to recognize events and alarms from the EATON equipment, the EATON MIB and the IETF MIB (standard MIB for managing UPSs) are saved and compiled within your Systems Insight Manager (SIM4 or 5) platform. Configuring the MIB Traps: By default, the SNMP traps severity level of the EATON MIB and the IETF MIB is "INFORMATIONAL". The script configures a default severity level for the Traps to distinguish the faults amongst the normal information sent by the UPS. You can also manually modify the Traps configuration using the procedure described in the appendix section. Declaring EATON equipment in SIM4 or 5: For each EATON SNMP agent or card to be automatically recognized as being EATON equipment in SIM4 or 5, the various equipment categories making up the EATON offering must be declared. Otherwise, the EATON detected during the "Auto-Discovery" will appear as unknown devices. HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 4/16

2.2 Configuration of the EATON SNMP cards and agents: Each EATON SNMP card or agent must be configured such as the SNMP alarms (Traps) can be sent to your SIM4 or 5 platform. To do this, the machine that hosts the SIM4 or 5 must be configured in the managers table of each SNMP card and agent in order to send the Traps. Manual procedure (for cards ref 66102, 66103, 66074, 66244, & Network Management Proxy) Connect to the card/proxy Web interface Click on the Notified applications item of the Settings section on the left menu. During the procedure, you will be asked for: the IP address of the machine that hosts the SIM4 or 5, the community name for the Trap receiver ("public" by default if not specified) the severity level. Repeat these steps for each SNMP card or agent. For more information refer to the cards/proxy manual HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 5/16

Automatic procedure (only for cards ref 66074, 66244, 66245, & UM-Agent) Run the SetSNMPManager.bat script file in the <Applications installation repertory(c:\program Files by default)>\hp\systems Insight Manager\bin and follow the instructions on the screen. During the procedure, you will be asked for: the IP address of your SNMP card or agent, the IP address of the machine that hosts the SIM4 or 5, the read/write community name for the agent ("public" by default if not specified), the community name for the Trap receiver ("public" by default if not specified). Repeat these steps for each SNMP card or agent. Manual procedure (only for cards ref 66074, 66244, 66245, & UM-Agent) You can also use a MIB explorer to configure the SNMP cards and agents. However, it is preferable to use the script file as these operations require an in-depth knowledge of the SNMP protocol and also have a good understanding of our products. Configuration example for manager number X: OID number X X X X X X X X X Designation / Value Manager number = X. Device number = 0. Manager type = 9 (other). Protocol level = 4 (snmpv1). Manager description = e.g. "SIM station" Manager IP address = YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY format. Community name = e.g. "public" Severity level = e.g. 2 Acknowledgement type = 2 (mgenoack). HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 6/16

3 Operation 3.1 Automatic recognition of EATONs (Auto-Discovery) To do this, connect your SIM4 or 5 agent using a web browser and identify yourself. Click on the item Options >> Discovery >> Automatic Discovery Click on the discovery filter link. Validate the "discovery" filter and select UPS type. Check the option Any system that matches the above filter. Figure 1: "Auto-Discovery" filter option Validate the option IP range pinging. Add the IP address ranges of your EATON equipment. Save and run Auto-Discovery. SIM4 or 5 is able to recognize equipment with SNMP and HTTP protocols. Once the Auto-Discovery has finished, go to the complete device list with the All systems link. The detected EATON SNMP equipment must appear in the list with EATON in the beginning of its product name. Note: In the device list, you can create a query to display only EATONs. To do this, refer to the "Displaying EATONs" part. HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 7/16

3.2 Displaying EATONs Steps for HP SIM4: To display the EATONs in a single view of SIM4, you have to create an appropriate query. Click on the link Customize on the left side. Then, click on the button New List Give a name to your query (e.g. All EATON). Search for systems where system type is UPS and product name contains MGE string Save your query. Once the query is configured, all EATONs using the SNMP protocol can be displayed with a single click. Figure 2: Query for displaying EATONs for HP SIM4 HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 9/16

3.2.2 Steps for HP SIM5: To display the EATONs in a single view of SIM5, you have to create an appropriate query: Click on the link Customize on the left side. In the Show: Combo Box, select the Systems item. Click on the New button on the right side. Select Choose by attribute Build the query as follows: Search for systems where system type is UPS and product name contains MGE string When you Save your query with Save as button, > give a name to your query (e.g. All EATON). > select the category (e.g. Private). Once the query is configured, all EATONs using the SNMP protocol can be displayed with a single click. Figure 3: Query for displaying EATONs for HP SIM5 HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 10/16

Note : You can also build a similar request for viewing the EATONs events. You just have to select «Events» instead of «Systems» to be able to view the events with SIM5. Figure 4: Query for displaying the events of UPSs for HP SIM5 HP Systems Insight Manager 4 and 5 Integration User s Guide XU / AE Page 11/16

3.3 Supervision of EATON equipment with SIM4 or 5 For each EATON, you are able to access a certain amount of information depending on the type of equipment you have. For cards with an on-board web server, for example, you are able to access the properties of your UPS with a simple click (cf. Figure 7). Typically, the device status is expressed through an icon: Normal operation. Critical fault. Major fault. Minor fault. No information about the device status. This state corresponds to HTTP type equipment, which does not support the SNMP protocol (e.g. XML- Web card or proxy agent Network Management Proxy). Whenever you zoom on a device, you will find the name, the IP address, as well as information for locating the device in the Identity tab. You will find the name of the UPS in the description field. You can also access the properties of your UPS on the Link tab (Link UPS Properties). This option is available only if your equipment allows it.
