3 StoneGate Appliances StoneGate IPS is available as a pre-installed, tested appliance. For more information about different appliance models, consult our Web site at This software version is supported on all StoneGate IPS Appliances except SGI-100, SGI-1000, SGI- 100A, SGI-ANZ, SGI-2000S, SGI-20A, SGI-200S, SGI-200C, SGI-200N, and SGI-200ANZ. Some features of this release are not available for all appliance models. See for up-to-date appliance-specific software compatibility information. Certified Intel Platforms Stonesoft has certified specific Intel-based platforms for StoneGate IPS. The updated list of certified platforms can be found at Requirements for Virtual Node VMware ESX Server version 3.5 or GB virtual disk 1024 MB RAM for each Virtual IPS node (Recommended 2048 MB RAM) A minimum of three virtual network interfaces The following limitations apply, when StoneGate IPS is run as a virtual node: Sensor clustering is not supported. 64-bit IPS installation is not supported. Other Intel Platforms We strongly recommend using a preinstalled StoneGate appliance or certified hardware as the hardware solution for new StoneGate IPS installations. If it is not possible to use a certified platform, StoneGate IPS can also run on standard Intel-based hardware that satisfies the following minimum StoneGate hardware requirements. Hardware Requirements for 100 Mbps Sensor Intel Core 2 Processor -based hardware 2048 MB memory (32-bit installation) / 4096 MB memory (64-bit installation) 2 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with IDS configuration 3 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with Inline IPS configuration IDE hard disk or SSD disk 16 GB in minimum (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) 3 StoneGate IPS Hardware Requirements for version 5.2.0

4 Hardware Requirements for 2 Gbps Sensor Intel Xeon Processor, 5400-series -based hardware Two processors, 4 Cores per CPU 4096 MB memory (32-bit installation) / 8192 MB memory (64-bit installation) 2 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with IDS configuration 3 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with Inline IPS configuration IDE hard disk or SSD disk 64 GB in minimum (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) Hardware Requirements for 10 Gbps Sensor NOTE Supported only with 64-bit IPS installations. Intel Xeon Processor, 5500/ 5600-series -based hardware Two processors, minimum of 4 Cores per CPU Hyper-threading enabled Minimum of 12 GB memory (DDR3/1333MHz) 2 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with IDS configuration 3 or more certified network interfaces for Sensor with Inline IPS configuration IDE hard disk or SSD disk. 64 GB in minimum (IDE RAID controllers are not supported). Bigger disk required if more RAM is used (48 GB RAM / 128 GB disk size) Hardware Requirements for Analyzer Intel Core 2 Processor -based hardware 2048 MB memory 1 certified network interface IDE hard disk or SSD disk 16 GB in minimum (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) NOTE - Upgrading between 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86-64) architecture software versions is not supported. StoneGate appliance supports only that software architecture version it was pre-installed with. 5 Network Interface Cards StoneGate IPS engines support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the Intel platform. We strongly recommend using network interface cards that Stonesoft has certified.
