3 Section 1: About this Document Document Overview The purpose of the checklist is to ensure that you have gathered the necessary information and resources to successfully install the Common Services Platform Collector (CSPC), for the Install Base Management and Reporting services. The pre-installation checklist is designed to be used for post-sales to: Prepare for the installation and configuration of the Collector on the recommended hardware in your customer s network, in order to initiate Smart Service for inventory and reporting. Important Note Hyperlinks to supporting content and information, which are located on the Cisco web site, are provided throughout this document. These hyperlinks may change over time as the content on the Cisco web site is updated on a regular basis. What is the scope of this Inventory and Reporting engagement? Please describe: B. Does the customer have a Cisco CCO user ID? Yes No If Yes, what is the CCO user ID? C. Please provide the estimated number of Cisco devices that will be included in the inventory: Qty: D. Is SNMP enabled on all devices? Yes No E. Please verify if the customer has a seed file? Yes No If Yes, then the Collector is not used for Discovery the Collector is used only for Network Inventory; verify that the following rules apply: 1. Ensure that the correct IP addresses of ALL devices/chassis in the network are included in the Seed File (customer s responsibility). 2. Ensure that ALL devices (as defined in the Seed Files) are supported by IR. The Supported and Unsupported Devices List is located in the Smart Collector CSP-C Supported Devices document, which is located at the following Url: orted_devices.pdf. 3. Ensure that appropriate access, to ALL devices (as defined in the Seed Files), is granted to the Collector (i.e. no devices behind closed Fire Walls) (customer s responsibility). 4. Ensure that both SNMP and CLI access are granted on ALL Chassis (customer s responsibility) Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Page 5
6 5. Ensure that both SNMP and CLI access are granted on ALL Cards (customer s responsibility). 6. Ensure that the Collector is configured to collect SNMP and CLI data (customer and Cisco responsibility). 7. Once the data is collected by the Collector, ensure that the Collector s Total Devices = Active Devices = Configuration Collected Devices (customer and Cisco responsibility). 8. Once the data is collected by Collector, ensure that the Collector s Configuration Failed Devices = 0 (customer and Cisco responsibility). If No, Collector is used for Discovery and Network Inventory; verify that the following rules apply: 1. Ensure that appropriate access to ALL devices (as defined in the Seed Files) is granted to the Collector (i.e. no devices behind closed Fire Walls) (customer s responsibility). 2. Ensure that ALL IR devices are supported, by checking the List of Supported Devices in the Smart Collector CSP-C Supported Devices document, which is published at the following URL: orted_devices.pdf 3. Based on discovery, determine the correct IP addresses of ALL devices/chassis in the network (customer s responsibility). 4. Ensure that both SNMP and CLI access are granted on ALL Chassis (customer s responsibility). 5. Ensure that both SNMP and CLI access are granted on ALL Cards (customer s responsibility). 6. Ensure that the Collector is configured to collect SNMP and CLI data (customer and Cisco responsibility). 7. Once the data is collected by the Collector, ensure that the Collector s Total Devices = Active Devices = Configuration Collected Devices (customer and Cisco responsibility). 8. 9 Section 5: Network Setup Requirements The following network parameters are necessary to configure the Collector during when installing and configuring the OS (Operating System); please enter the required information: Hostname (Do not use special characters (ie all CAPS or FQDN) IP address Subnet mask Default gateway Domain name (i.e. Cust.com) Time Zone (i.e. Central, Pacific, Eastern) DNS server(s) (Use a space as your delimeter) Domain Search (Use a space as your delimeter) Duplex Settings (Specify Half or Full. Otherwise, auto sense will be used to determine duplex settings.) 2011 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Page 9
10 Section 6: Traffic Types you can expect coming from Collector Ping (Device Access Verifier) SNMP (Adding devices, collecting inventory, and collecting configurations using SNMP RW string) Telnet and/or SSH (Net Audits, Device Access Verifier, running show commands, and collecting configurations using privileged passwords) SSL (Used for outbound access from Collectors server to nettools-upload.cisco.com and tools.cisco.com at least once per day) NFS/SCP/SFTP or access method provided by customer (For access to syslog and trapd log messages) Section 7: Suggested Placement We would recommend placing the Collector on your network management subnet. This may minimize the access list configuration changes needed on all your Cisco devices. The collector needs to have access to internet. If the customer has any questions about security, please refer him to our security white paper: Partner Support Service Security Overview Section 8: Software Download Location To retrieve CSP-C Server and Client software for Windows and Linux connect to this link on SE portal, right side downloads To retrieve VM CSP-C Server image and Client software for Windows.
