1 Unit 2: Accentuate the Negative Name: 1.1 Using Positive & Negative Numbers Number Sentence A mathematical statement that gives the relationship between two expressions that are composed of numbers and operation signs. For example, + 2 = 5 and 6 2 > 10 are number sentences; + 2, 5, 6 2, and 10 are expressions. Make a number sentence that would result in the following answers: a) 10 Ex: + 7 = 10, 1 = 10, = 10 b) -5 Ex: 0 5 = 5, + 2 = 5 c) - Ex: 0 =, =

If an expression is written as a factor multiplied by a sum, you can use the Distributive Property to multiply the factor by each term in the sum.
