4 Electrical Insulators and Accessories Sectional Committee, ETD 06 NATIONAL FOREWORD This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with IEC Insulators for overhead lines with a nominal voltage above V Part 1: Ceramic or glass insulator units for a.c. systems Definitions, test methods and acceptance criteria issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) would be adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Electrical Insulators and Accessories Sectional Committee, ETD 06 and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council. With the publication of this standard, IS 3188 : 1980 Characteristics of String Insulator Units shall be withdrawn. The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following: a) Wherever the words International Standard appear referring to this standard, they should be read as Indian Standard. b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker. In this adopted standard, reference appears to the following International Standards for which Indian Standards also exist.
