3 System Description The DOG Ultra Low Light (ULL) camera set is an accessory kit for installation on the DOG Base Kit. The DOG ULL fixed camera extends the operational range and lighting conditions of the standard DOG camera module. Like the standard DOG camera module, the DOG ULL camera connects to the DOG CAT-5 infrastructure, from which it gets power and transmits its video. The DOG ULL camera may also be placed up to 500m from the DOG Base Station using standard CAT- 5 cable. The ULL camera resides in a weather resistant housing that may be opened by the user to access the lens. A low light IR-compensated varifocal zoom lens is provided so that the user can focus and zoom the lens to the desired levels. The ULL camera can be used to view and recognize personnel out to 400m. Like the standard DOG camera module, the ULL camera provides an interface to external devices such as a pan/tilt unit or intrusion detection sensors. In addition, the ULL camera provides both a signal and mechanical interface for a small footprint DOG powered IR illuminator for extreme dark conditions. The DOG Ultra Low Light camera comes packaged in a rugged transport case as a set of 4 units and includes all the associated accessories as shown in the figure below. 4 Figure 2: DOG Ultra Low Light Camera Set Identification Label Camera Setup The first step in setting up the ULL fixed camera is to run the CAT-5 cables from the DOG Base Station out to the camera location. It is highly recommended that all cables and cameras are tested prior to running your cables to the final installation point. This will reduce effort if a bad cable or connector is found prior to running the cable. The CAT-5 cables should not exceed 500m (1500ft) for optimum performance and should be UV resistant if they are going to be outdoors for prolonged periods of time (months). Mounting the Camera The Ultra Low Light Camera kit contains both ceiling/pedestal and wall mounting options as seen below. Select the correct mounting bracket based on the installation type and remove the camera, camera mounting bracket and necessary mounting hardware from the camera kit case. Figure 3: Ceiling/pedestal mount (left) and wall mount (right) Next, take the #10 bolts from the bag inside the camera kit case and put a lock washer then a flat washer onto the bolts and insert them into the side holes of the mounting bracket head as seen in the figure below. Use a wrench to insure that the bolts are fully screwed into the camera enclosure. Make sure the camera is oriented along the tilt axis of the bracket head. 3

5 Figure 4: Attaching camera to mounting bracket The camera mounting bracket can be adjusted to allow for additional tilt and rotation of the mounted camera. The bolts on the side of the mounting bracket adjust the camera tilt while the bolts on the inside of the mounting bracket adjust the camera rotation as seen in the figure below. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts just enough so that the mounting bracket pivots and adjust the mounting bracket to the desired location. Once the camera has been adjusted to the proper tilt and rotation make sure to fully tighten all bolts. Figure 5: Adjusting the mounting brackets tilt (left) and rotation (right) 4

6 Connecting the Camera Begin the camera connection process by opening the camera enclosure. Next, unscrew the bottom half of the waterproof connector on the bottom of the camera enclosure and remove the rubber insert. Pass the end of the CAT-5 cable through the connector and into the camera enclosure as shown below. Figure 6: Running the CAT-5 Cable through Watertight Connector Body Plug the RJ-45 connector into the female RJ-45 receptacle inside the camera enclosure as shown in the figure below. Make sure that the RJ-45 tab lines up with the connector tab hole and that it snaps into place inside the receptacle. 5

7 Figure 7: Plugging the CAT-5 Cable into the RJ45 connector Once this is done, screw the watertight connector cover back on and tighten ensuring the cable is snug inside the connector and close the camera enclosure lid. Figure 8: Tightening the weather tight seal on the CAT-5 cable. Plug the other end of the CAT-5 cable into the appropriate channel on the DOG Base Station s VPD. Consult with the DOG Base Station s User Manual for additional guidance. Once the DOG Base Station is properly powered up the Ultra Low Light Camera image will be displayed on the base station monitor. Focusing and Zooming the Camera Once the camera has been powered on it may be necessary to adjust the zoom and focus of the camera. Begin by opening the camera enclosure and locating the zoom and focus knobs on the camera lens as shown in the figure below. 6

8 Figure 9: Camera Lenses Zoom and Focus Knobs Camera adjustment is accomplished by having a person make the necessary adjustments at the camera while a second person viewing the camera image on the base station monitor communicates alignment instructions. If you have the optional field monitor connect it up as seen in the figure below. This allows the user to view all the camera adjustments directly at the camera.. Figure 10: Localized viewing of camera using the optional field monitor Begin the camera adjustment by loosening the zoom thumbscrew on the lens as seen in the figure below. Turn the front lens toward wide to zoom out providing the largest field of view. Turn the front lens toward tele to zoom in for a narrower field of view. Once the camera is adjusted to the proper zoom re-tighten the zoom thumbscrew. Figure 11: Adjusting camera zoom 7

9 Next, loosen the focus thumbscrew and turn the thumbscrew until the camera image comes into focus. Re-tighten the thumbscrew to ensure the camera does not go out of focus.
