2 REQUIRED TOOLS The following list identifies the main tools needed to assemble and install the breathable wall light trap and kit components (if applicable). Additional tools may be needed. Tape measure and marker. Variable speed drill (cordless with extra batteries works best) & 1/4" drill bit. Small hammer and gloves. Level (length depends on kit dimensions). 7/16" wrenches and a socket set containing 7/16" deep-well socket. Wrench set and pliers. Rivet gun. Opaque caulk or duct tape. Important Information READ THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for purchasing the breathable wall light trap and blackout shutter kit. When properly assembled and maintained, this product will provide years of reliable service. These instructions include helpful hints and important information needed to safely assemble and properly maintain the kit components. Please read these instructions before you begin. If you have any questions during the assembly, contact Customer Service at for assistance. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Wear eye protection. Wear gloves when handling metal parts. Use a portable GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) when working with electric power tools and cords. ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE Following the instructions as presented will help ensure proper assembly. Steps outlining assembly process are as follows: 1. Verify that all parts are included in the shipment. Notify customer service for questions or concerns. 2. Read these instructions and all additional documentation included with the shipment before you begin. 3. Gather the tools and assistants. Assistants are needed to lift and hold assembly when attaching to building frame. 4. Assemble kit components. Read this document to determine what pages apply to your kit. 5. Read the care and maintenance information. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Proper care and maintenance is important. Check the following items periodically to ensure breathable wall light trap components are secure and functioning properly. Check all fasteners to verify they remain tight. Never climb or stand on any part of the light trap and its frame components. Ensure nothing blocks either side of light trap. Inspect all electrical connections and wires. Repair or replace as needed. Repair or replace loose or broken wires. For replacement or missing parts, call for assistance. WARNING: IF KIT INCLUDES MOTORIZED SHUTTER OR AN ELECTRIC FAN, CONSULT THE SERVICES OF A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN TO ADEQUATELY AND SAFELY CONNECT COMPONENTS TO A POWER SUPPLY. Use the information on this page to identify which procedures apply to your breathable wall light trap kit. Kit numbers that end with the letter A (e.g., A) include an assembled light trap. Skip Sections 1 & 2 if your kit includes an assembled light trap. This guide describes the assembly and installation of these blackout shutter kits: & A Outside Building & A GENERAL ASSEMBLY STEPS 1. Assemble vane kit components. (All kits: Procedure 1. Does not apply if kit number ends with letter A.) 2. Assemble vane kit frame. (All kits: Procedure 2. Does not apply if kit number ends with letter A.) 3. Attach shutter motor to shutter. See instruction sent with motor and shutter. Light Trap Frame Column Shutter with Motor 4. 4 Getting Started: Parts and Light Trap to Detail PICTORIAL PARTS GUIDE Diagram in this column shows basic light trap to adapter box connection. Sample shown may differ from actual components. Install a flat washer against bolt head and locknut at each connection. Actual assembly may have more fasteners. 5 Assembly Instructions: Vane Kit Components 1 ASSEMBLE LIGHT TRAP VANE KIT COMPONENTS ATTENTION: If kit number ends with letter A, light trap is preassembled. Skip Procedures 1 & 2 and continue with Procedure 3. Depending on size, vane kits are identified by one of these numbers: , , , , or Gather vane kit components. Review part descriptions for additional information. Complete these steps: 1. Unpack vanes keeping them in the same order as packed. 4. Slide a tube spacer onto each rod and add another vane. 5. Repeat Step 4 until all vanes are used. 2. Place one (1) rod cap nut firmly on one end of a rod. Use a nut driver (or similar tool) and a hammer to seat cap on rod. Repeat to install a cap on one end of each remaining rods. 6. After installing all vanes, install a cap nut on the end of each rod to secure final vane. 3. With assistance, stand rods upright with cap nuts at the bottom. Place one vane over all rods. Vane Spacer ATTENTION: Before installing cap nut, determine if a 3/8" spacer is needed. Vanes should be tight once final cap nut is installed. Cap Nut 7. Finally, turn assembled vane kit so vanes are vertical. 8. Continue by assembling vane kit frame. See Procedure 2. Revision date: _

6 Assembly Instructions: Vane Kit Frame 2 ASSEMBLE LIGHT TRAP VANE KIT FRAME Gather parts: ATTENTION: If kit number ends with letter A, light trap rivets is pre-assembled. Skip Procedures 1 & 2 and continue with Procedure 3. Light trap frame top/bottom panels (2) Complete these steps: Light trap frame side panels (2) 1. Use diagram below to assemble frame. Secure frame using rivets and customer supplied rivet gun. B Light trap aluminum angle (sides) (2) Light trap aluminum angle (top/bottom) (2) 2. Attach aluminum angles to top and bottom frame panels first using rivets. NOTE: Aluminum angle for top and bottom panels will extend beyond panel edges as shown. A A 3. Next attach aluminium angle to side panels in place using rivets. 4. Attach light trap to building. 2 3 B 1 ATTENTION: Bottom aluminum angle includes a grommet hole for the cable to pass through for motorized shutter applications. Install grommet into hole. Does not apply if light trap is not installed over a motorized shutter assembly _ Revision date:

7 Assembly Instructions: & (including A kits) 3 INSTALL MOTORIZED SHUTTER, ADAPTER BOX, & LIGHT TRAP Complete Procedure 3 to install shutter assembly, adapter box, and light trap. Consult instructions that shipped with the shutter and shutter motor to install those items. Complete these steps: 1. Attach shutter motor to shutter using instructions sent with those items. 2. Measure shutter. Frame rough opening accordingly. Tek screws are to secure to metal framing. Contact your sales representative to purchase different fasteners for framing that is wood or other material, or purchase fasteners locally. 3. Install end wall cladding and cut opening in cladding for shutter installation. Tek Screws FA4484B 4. Apply a bead of sealant around shutter opening. See dashed line above. 5. Standing outside the building, set shutter in place and secure shutter to metal frame using FA4484B Tek screws. View as seen from outside the building. Revision date: _

8 Assembly Instructions: & (including A kits) 3 INSTALL MOTORIZED SHUTTER, ADAPTER BOX, & LIGHT TRAP continued 6. Move inside building and check fit of adapter box around shutter assembly. ATTENTION: If dimensions of mounting flange do not match the framed opening for the shutter assembly, add additional framing to provide a solid and dimensionally correct mounting surface for the adapter box mounting flange. 7. After frame is prepared, take the adapter box and place on a flat surface with the light trap mounting flange down. 8. Drill a 1/4" hole in each corner of the adapter box mounting flange. Next, mark hole locations between the corners using 12" on-center as a guide. Drill the additional holes at the marked locations. ATTENTION: Diagram (right) shows adapter box with all mounting holes drilled in adapter box mounting flange. Actual number of holes depends on size of adapter box. Apply felt tape to the perimeter of the adapter box mounting flange Felt Tape Attach light trap to this flange. Tek screws to secure box to frame inside flange. Drill hole for wiring. Attach this flange to frame. ATTENTION: As noted on page 7, there are two different adapter box designs. Example above shows an adapter box with the mounting flange toward the inside. Actual adapter box may include a mounting flange that extends away from opening toward the outside. View shows adapter box as seen from inside the building. 11. With assistance, carefully lift adapter box in place and use a level to ensure box is positioned correctly. ATTENTION: Check shutter operation before installing light trap. Ensure all shutter parts move freely and do not contact frame or adapter box. Revision date: _

From inside the box, check for light penetrating through corners and seal with customer supplied opaque caulk or tape. 14. Attach light trap to adapter box. Gather parts: FAG304B 1/4" hex bolts FALF35B 1/4" locknuts FAME50B 1/4" flat washers 1/4" Hardware Light Trap NOTE: See previous page to view location of Tek screws for inside flange. 13. Enlist the service of a qualified electrician to supply power to the motorized shutter. ATTENTION: Each 1/4" nut and bolt combination uses two (2) flat washers one installed against the bolt head and one against locknut. Assistants are required when installing the assembled light trap. Do not attempt to attach alone. With assistance, lift light trap into position, align bolt holes, and install fasteners. Clamp in place if possible. 15.
