Introduction Ocularis Web User Guide Introduction Ocularis Media Server Ocularis Media Server (formerly called 'Ocularis-X') provides full framerate video from multiple megapixel cameras over limited bandwidth connections. Ocularis Media Server brings the experience of desktop video surveillance to browsers and mobile devices. With the increasing popularity of bandwidth intensive megapixel cameras, web and mobile users face the need to compromise either on the number of cameras viewed (often limited to a single camera), the quality of the video or the smoothness of the video delivered. This can result in choppy, low framerate live viewing and playback. Ocularis Media Server, an add-on to Ocularis, delivers up to sixteen HD video streams simultaneously using OnSSI s HDIS (High Definition Interactive Streaming) technology. Frame rates up to 30 frames per second can be delivered over limited bandwidth networks such as 3G and 4G networks. Ocularis Media Server extends the look and feel of OnSSI s award winning Ocularis Client to web browsers and mobile devices. It allows security personnel in the field to perform live monitoring and synchronized playback of multiple megapixel cameras through a standard web browser or mobile device. Ocularis Media Server Components Components of Ocularis Media Server include a server component and client components. The Ocularis Media Server component typically resides on a stand alone server and is used to communicate with an installation of Ocularis Base. The client components are used to view video. Client components include Ocularis Web and Ocularis Mobile. Ocularis Web (formerly called Ocularis X Client') is used to view video using a laptop or PC and a web browser. Ocularis Mobile is used to view video on a mobile device such as tablet or smartphone. Ocularis Media Server works with Ocularis Base versions 3.0 or later. Ocularis Web works with a standard web browser. It is run by accessing a website on the Ocularis Media Server and logging into Ocularis Base. Ocularis Base authenticates user credentials and permissions and passes the appropriate video streams from the recorder(s) to the Ocularis Media Server to be transcoded and sent to the requesting client. The device using the client may be inside or outside the local area network. Ocularis Mobile works the same way except that it currently runs on the Apple ipad. The login and authentication process is the same. Specifications Ocularis Web Ocularis Web uses a web browser to display live and recorded video. The following web browsers are supported: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 and higher Mozilla Firefox version 14.0 and higher Google Chrome version 21.0 and higher Apple Safari version and higher Adobe Flash is required as a separate installation in some browsers. 4 On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc.
Ocularis Web User Guide Getting Started Getting Started Use any of the supported web browsers (see "Specifications" on page 4) to access video with Ocularis Web. Launching Ocularis Web 1. Open a web browser. 2. In the URL field, enter the following: or Where: <Ocularis Media_Server_IP_Address> is the IP Address of the Ocularis Media Server. Your system administrator will let you know if you should use 'http' or 'https'. Logging In to Ocularis Web Prior to accessing Ocularis Web, you are presented with a log in screen. Enter your login information as follows: User Name Password Type A user account is required to gain access to system video. This account is your Ocularis account and may be used to access video via Ocularis Web, Ocularis Client or Ocularis Mobile. Enter the password corresponding to the user account above. Select the type of Ocularis user for your account. Options are: Basic or Windows. See your system administrator for the correct type. When complete, click Login. Ocularis Base authenticates the user credentials entered and provides the Ocularis Media Server with the information authorized to this user account. This includes which cameras streams and views are accessible to this user. After authentication is complete, the video stream travels from the recorder to the Ocularis Media Server and then to the Ocularis Web client. On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. 5
Ocularis Web Interface Ocularis Web User Guide Ocularis Web Interface When you successfully log in using Ocularis Web for the first time, the screen presented is a blank slate: Ocularis-Web Window In the top part of the screen there is a menu bar on the left and application controls in the upper right portion of the page. The general view area takes up largely the remainder of the screen. Menu Bar The upper left portion of the screen includes a menu bar with the following items: Menu Description Debug Console Overlay The icon may be used to toggle the Debug Console on and off as needed for troubleshooting purposes. Cameras Views Browse Lists all cameras to which the user account has privileges as defined on the Ocularis Base Lists all views accessible to the user. Views from Ocularis Base for this user account are inherited and are listed here. Users may create additional views unique to Ocularis Web. See To Create an Ocularis Web Local View (on page 9) for more information. Click this menu option to toggle between Browse mode (recorded video) and Live mode. 6 On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc.
Ocularis Web User Guide Ocularis Web Interface Application Controls The upper right portion of the Menu Bar contains functions known as Application Controls. These functions are defined as follows: Control Log off - click this icon to log off Ocularis Web. Logging off will stop the current session. Graphic/Icon Help click this icon to open the Ocularis Web documentation. About - click this icon to view the Ocularis Web version number. On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. 7
Configuring Ocularis Web Ocularis Web User Guide Configuring Ocularis Web Ocularis Web needs no configuration to start using the product! The views you use with Ocularis Client are shared with Ocularis Web. These are the Base Views. Simply use the Views menu to see a list of views and select one to view video. (see To Display a View). A View is the fundamental display when observing video from a client application such as Ocularis Web. The screen is divided into one or more panes, each of which may display a different camera stream. Ocularis Media Server supports up to sixteen HD video streams simultaneously at their original frame rate (up to 30 FPS). Base Views are listed in alphabetical order. The Base Views listed in the Views menu may not display all the views attributed to the user. Ocularis Web does not support some features that may be included in an Ocularis Base view. These include: web pages, blank screens, push panes, hot spots or carousels. If a 1 x 1 view is configured in Ocularis Base with one of these non-supported built-in content panes, the view will not appear in the Ocularis Web list of Base Views. If, however, a multiple pane view contains 1 or more cameras as well as a non-supported built-in content pane, the view will appear. When selected, the non-supported pane will remain blank. Similarly, neither client (Ocularis Web nor Ocularis Mobile) supports asymmetrical views. The only views available in these clients are: 1 x 1 or 1 streams 2 x 2 or 4 streams 3 x 3 or 9 streams 4 x 4 or 16 streams If, for instance, Ocularis Base has a view of 8 cameras, this view will not appear in the Base Views list on an Ocularis Media Server client. Note for the admin account: the hierarchy of views in the Base Views list may not display the same in Ocularis Web as it does in Ocularis Client. There may be duplicate views listed for this user account. As you know, the administrator account can see all views for all user groups. If views with the same name are shared across groups, these views will appear in duplicate only for the user admin. Local Views in Ocularis Web may be configured by the user. These are stored on the computer which is used to create the view. When you configure a view of cameras, the browser on the local machine saves the configuration information for your user account. Therefore, if you were to go to another computer and log in using Ocularis Web, that local computer would need to be reconfigured. Similarly, if you stayed on the same PC but launched a different browser and logged in with Ocularis Web, configuration will also need to be redone. Lastly, if you clear the browser s cache, configuration changes are lost and must be redone upon next login. Local Views appear in the order in which they were created. 8 On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc.
Ocularis Web User Guide Configuring Ocularis Web To Create an Ocularis Web Local View In Ocularis Web, select the Views menu and choose Configure Views. Figure 1: Configure Local Views The Configure Views screen allows you to create different views populated by the cameras you choose in the layout selected. Select the desired layout from the Layout Tabs. Available selections include: 1 x 1 View, 2 x 2 View, 3 x 3 View and 4 x 4 View. The screen will adjust accordingly based upon the view selected. Each section or rectangle making up the view is called a pane. To populate each pane, simply drag and drop a camera displayed in the list on the Cameras tab to the desired pane. Drag and drop to populate a pane with a camera stream 1. Continue to drag and drop cameras for each available pane. If you change your mind about which camera should populate which pane, simply drag a new camera and drop it on top of the existing camera in the pane. 2. When complete, enter a name for the view in the View name field. The name is displayed in the Views menu for you to access later. View names should be created so that you can easily identify the cameras it includes. View names are not case sensitive and may include spaces. 3. Click Save. 4. You may continue to create additional views. When finished, click Close. Note: Remember that local views are saved with the browser settings on the local machine. If you open another manufacturer s browser, move to another PC, or clear the browser s cache, you will need to reconfigure local views from scratch. On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. 9

Actions performed with the playback controls apply to all visible video panes. For instance, playing video from 6:00 a.m. will result in all panes playing video from 6:00 a.m. (assuming it was recorded in the first place). On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. 17
Viewing Recorded Video Ocularis Web User Guide The time displayed in Ocularis Web reflects the time on the Ocularis Media Server. This time could be different (e.g. different time zone) from the Ocularis Web user, the recorder or even the Ocularis Base computer. Playback Controls The following defines the function for each playback control: To Browse Recorded Video There are many different ways to view recorded video. Drag the Timeline slider handle to the left or the right to play video backwards or forwards. The Speed indicator let s you know the speed of the playback. A negative number (e.g. -4X) indicates that the video is playing backwards. The further to the left or right that the Timeline slider is placed will direct the speed. The Timeline is calibrated so that the slider jumps from one speed to the next. Sample for reverse playback in 4 times normal speed Only video in 1 x 1 views may use up to 12x (twelve times) normal speed for video playback. Views with multiple panes may only play forward or backward in 1x (normal speed). You may maximize a pane in order to view the video with increased playback speed. Click the Move back one second / Move forward one second icons to move video accordingly. Click the Move back one frame / Move forward one frame icons to move video accordingly.
