3 1. PRESENTATION At Bushman Panoramic we thank you for your trust and for having chosen the Kalahari head La Kalahari head was designed for professional and amateur photographers. It was designed, developed with photographers around the world. Kalahari is the lightest smallest and most versatile panoramic head on the market today. Being so easy to use, compact and the lightest with 380g it makes it the ideal companion in town or in the mountains. It is produced with a highly resistant aluminum alloy used in motorcar racing, makes it idea even in the worst conditions. All these elements put together with a slik design allow s it to be very easily mounted like no other. a. 4 Kalahari Manual b. Kalahari bag The Kalahari bag has been specifically made for the Kalahari head and accessories. It allows you put away you folded Kalahari head with its 4 rings in specific individual pockets. 2 bigger pockets have been made, one for the accessories such as rail stops and the other to slide the base plate in. 2. ASSEMBLING a. Opening Every head, before shipping, has been inspected and checked by our team, to ensure you that all is perfect working and mint conditions. The head has been designed for the easiest way to assemble and disassemble.. 4

5 At reception you will find 3 main plates, named Base, Vertical and Optical The red screw have been designed to not be removed to reduce the chance of loosing them and to increase the assembling speed of the head The camera screw has been specifically made to be able to tighten the camera to its mounting plate without the need of a coin or tool. The high density rubber has been studied to ensure a maximum of adherence with a small contact surface for the camera. The rings of 10, 22 (exactly 22,5 ) 45, 90 have been manufactured to make it very easy to mount and dismount with your finger or with a small tap on a hard surface. The high-grade aluminum alloy used is extremely hard and allow for the rings to last in time. The are easily idendified by there laser marks. For any replacement refert to our website 3 rail stops of high-grade aluminum. The Quick Click mounted on the base plate of Kalahari. b. Assembling elements Simple assembling: 1) Tighten the red screw on the Quick Click to block the rotor of the Quick Click. 2) Then screw in the Quick Click to your tripod 3/8, or use a 3/8 to ¼ adaptor if your tripod is a ¼ thread. Tighten it firmly so it will not unscrew while free rotating the panoramic head later on. 3) The vertical plate (with logo) goes on the base plate. It is maintained in position with the red base plate screw (N 4). 4) Untighten the red vertical screw (N 7) enough to loosen the optic plate. 5) release the extension with the red optic scew (N 12). 6) The extension is placed under the camera lined up with the optic axe and tightened with the camera screw (N 15). Be sure to tighten in properly to avoid the camera from tilting. 7) Once the extension placed under the camera screw it to the optic plate by tightening the red optic screw (N 12). 8) Release the red screw of the quick click and enjoy it. 5

6 c. The rings 4 rings come with the Kalahari head, the 10, the 22, 45 and the 90. They allow you to have the choice of clicks that you need depending on your optic and overlap needed. The rings of: 10 - for focal lengths of mm, it allows you to have 30, 40 and more degrees for mid length focal of 70mm, 45 - for lenses of 50mm, 90 - ideal for fisheye lenses. The above are simple recommendations they do not represent any restriction on what lenses to use with what ring. Unmounting rings The change in rings is very simple. Unscrew the junction (N 7). Be careful and hold your camera if it is mounted to the optic plate. Once you have unscrewed and released the optic plate. With your finger change your ring as you wish. If the ring is a little tight, gently tap it against the palm of your hand or something harder. Monting ring 6

7 The assembling of the optic plate is exactly the same operation the other way around. Once the ring is in place, on the optic plate, bring the optic plate to the red junction screw (N 7) and tighten it. Be sure to align the vertical plate line with the ring. 7 d. The Junction The Junction is the part that has the most tension and effort to hold you camera on the panoramic head. It is easy to use and change rings fore there are no tools that are needed. Having no spring it can resist going underwater occasionaly. The choice of the system has been designed for that. To change the pitch, unscrew the red vertical screw (N 7) while holding your camera if mounted, so that the 4 technical balls are not touching the ring. Once the otpic plate is free from the technical balls, you may change angle of your camera, up or down. Use the reference lines on the vertical plate and the rings to ensure the perfect fit while tightening the red vertical screw (N 7). e. Butées de rails When using the Kalahari head on a regular basis, you should consider using the rail stops to remember your exact position. There are 3 rails stops. One is to be used for the base plate and the other for the optic plate. There is an extra one for if you did want to have another reference mark on the optic plate using a different lenses. On the base plate we strongly recommend to but the rail stop on the side were is the level. When shooting the nodal point the rail stop will not be in your way. 7

8 NOTE : It is important to keep a trace of your settings once you have found them with the combination of your camera and lens. Camera / DSLR Optic / focal Base Ruler Optic comments f. Landscape position It is possible to use your camera in the landscape position. For this you need to unscrew the red base screw and replace it with the red optic screw. Then you may tighten the extension to the base plate that is holding your camera. 8

9 3. MAINTENANCE a. Cleaning A regular cleaning will allow it to be functional at all times. You may use a simple humid cloth to wipe it. b. Taking the red screw apart Unscrewing of the red screws. They have been produced and assembled in a way that does not allow them to fall. The red base plate screw can be unscrewed from the extreme side of the base plate near the 13 cm mark. The red vertical plate screw can simply be removed by unscrewing it. The red optic plate screw can be removed only once the 10,22,45 or 90 ring has been removed. You may then slide the red screw out.
