3 Get Your Device Ready _ Activate Your Device _ Insert the Battery 1. Press down on the battery cover and slide it away from the camera lens to remove it. 2. Insert the battery into the battery compartment and gently press down until it clicks into place. 3. Replace the battery cover. Note: If you have purchased an optional microsd memory card, insert it into the slot on the left side above the battery, and then insert the battery. Charge the Battery Plug the flat end of the charger into the device s charger/accessory jack and then plug the other end into an electical outlet. Turn the Phone On Press and hold to turn the phone on. Activate Your Device If you purchased your device at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use. If you received your device in the mail, and it is a new Sprint account or a new phone number, your phone is designed to activate automatically when you first turn it on. To confirm your activation, make a phone call. If you received your device in the mail and it is going to be activated on an existing number (you re swapping phones), go to sprint.com/activate and follow the instructions. When you have finished, make a phone call to confirm your activation. If your device is still not activated or you do not have access to the Internet, contact Sprint Customer Service at for assistance. 4 Set Up Your Device _ Making and Answering Calls _ Follow the Tutorial When you power on your device the first time, a tutorial will launch and take you through a brief setup program. 1. Remove the stylus from the right side of the device and tap the Windows screen. 2. Follow the instructions to align your touch screen and set up an optional device password. 3. After setup, you will see the Today screen. For additional setup options, including setting the date and time, setting up an account, setting a ring tone, and more, tap the getting started menu on the Today screen. Make a Call 1. From the Today screen, enter a phone number using the numbered keys on your keyboard. (If you make a mistake while dialing, press to erase.) 2. Press. 3. When you re finished, press. Answer an Incoming Call Press. Enable Data Services 1. Press and tap Settings > System > EVDO Data. 2. Touch Menu (right softkey) > Enable EVDO Data. (If the option appears as Disable EVDO Data, your data services are already enabled.) 3. Touch Menu (right softkey) > Update Data Profile. When finished, the device will display your status as EVDO Data Enabled and your user name will appear.

5 Voic _ Contacts _ Set Up Your Voic All unanswered calls are automatically transferred to your voic , even if your device s phone is in use or turned off. You should set up your voic , passcode, and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated. 1. Press and hold. 2. Follow the system prompts to create your passcode and record your name and greeting. Sprint strongly recommends setting a voic passcode. Without a passcode, anyone who has access to your device can access your messages and place outbound calls through your wireless account. Retrieve Your Voic From your device: 1. Press and hold. 2. Enter your passcode. From any other phone: 1. Dial your wireless phone number. 2. When your voic answers, press *. 3. Enter your passcode. Save a Phone Number 1. Enter a phone number and press Menu (right softkey) > Save to Contacts. 2. Tap <New Contact> and, if prompted, Outlook Contact, and then enter the contact s name. 3. Select a number type (such as Mobile, Home, or Work) and press Save (left softkey). 4. To add or edit additional information, press Menu (right softkey) > Edit, and make your changes. Retrieve a Phone Number 1. Press > Contacts. 2. Use your navigation key to scroll through the entries, or use your keyboard to enter the first few letters of an entry. 3. To display an entry, tap it or highlight it and press. 4. To call the entry s default phone number, highlight it and press.

6 Messaging _ Pictures & Video _ Send a Text Message 1. From the Today screen, highlight text and press Compose (right softkey). 2. Tap the button to add recipients, and select an entry option. 3. Select or enter a wireless phone number or address. 4. Enter a message or press Menu (right softkey) > Insert > Emoticons or My Messages to enter smileys or preset messages. 5. Press Send (left softkey). Text messages can also be started from Contacts, from > Text, or by entering a mobile phone number and pressing Menu (right softkey) > Send Text Message. Send a Picture Before you can send pictures with your Intrepid, you must set up an account on your device. See your Setting Up guide. 1. From the Today screen, tap pictures. 2. Tap a picture to display it and press Send (left softkey). (To locate a picture, you may need to tap My Pictures and select a storage location or folder.) 3. Enter an address or press Menu (right softkey) > Add Recipient to select a recipient from Contacts. 4. Follow the onscreen prompts. You can select a subject and add a text or audio message if you wish. 5. Press Send (left softkey) to send the picture. Take a Picture 1. Press and hold to activate the camera. 2. Using your display as a viewfinder, aim the camera lens at your subject and press. 3. For additional options, press the right softkey and touch an option (including sending the picture via MMS, , or Bluetooth). Record a Video 1. Press and hold to activate the camera, and then tap to toggle to the camcorder. 2. Using the display screen as a viewfinder, aim the lens at your subject, and press. 3. Press the right softkey to stop recording. 4. For additional options, press the right softkey and touch an option (including sending the video via MMS, , or Bluetooth).
