3 Step 1. Charging your USB cordless dual mode phones (Model GG100/GG200) for the first time. Both dual mode phones will require an initial battery charge of 15 hours. Please don t switch off the phone or disconnect it from the power supply during this period and don t connect the phone to your computer. Remember: The handset can only use AAA 1.2V Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. 1a. Insert the cables as shown in Picture 1, for the main base station plug the adapter into the mains socket and switch on the mains.* Power cable To insert the cables into your main base station, please follow these steps: USB cable Telephone cable Underside view of the base station 1. Lay the base on a flat surface with the ports facing you. 2. Thread the USB cable through the right cable guide, keeping the cable to the left. 3. Insert the telephone cable into the telephone socket and thread the cable through the right cable guide. 4. Insert the power cable and thread the cable through the left cable guide, keeping the cable to the left. Step 2. Installing the software. Remember: For your Tesco internet phone to work, you must first install the software and register your account. Please don t plug your dual mode phone base station into a USB socket until you have completed Steps 2 to 5 in this guide. During the installation process you may need to allow access to Tesco internet phone through your security software. 2a. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet then insert the installation disc into your computer s CD or DVD drive. This should run automatically, if it doesn t then double-click my computer on your desktop, then double-click the Tesco internet phone icon and finally double-click setup.exe. 2b. The image below will appear on your screen (see Picture 2). Click on download to download the software (it will take about a minute). You may get a file download security warning window before the software downloads. Click run or open to continue with the download. 2c. An Internet Explorer security warning may appear asking you to verify the publisher. Click run or open to continue with the setup. Picture 1. 1b. 4 Step 3. Registering your account. Before you can begin making calls using the Tesco internet phone service you ll need to register your account. If you already have an existing Tesco internet phone account, you can use the Skip button to skip the registration process and then go to page 9 to see what to do next. You ll need to register a Tesco internet phone account to choose your internet phone number and password. 3a. On the Personal details screen enter your first name, last name and chosen password into the available spaces, then click next to go to the next screen. Make a note of your password in the space below. Your Password: Remember: Ensure your password is kept in a safe place as you will need it to login and use your Tesco internet phone. Step 3 continued Registering your account. You ll now need to enter the validation code that you got in your pack. You ll need to do this to successfully register your account. 3e. Take the validation card from your Tesco internet phone pack and scratch off the silver panel to reveal your unique code. 3f. Enter the code into the validation code box and click Register to proceed. 3g. You ll be taken to a page confirming your internet phone number and informing you that your account has been created. Remember: Calls to other Tesco internet phones are FREE. See the in-store leaflet or the website for other call charges. You can top-up by debit or credit card online or by purchasing e-vouchers from any Tesco store in the UK. 3b. You ll then be required to fill in your contact details including a valid address, home telephone number and home address. Then click register. 3c. You ll then be prompted to select your telephone area code from a drop-down menu. Once you ve done this, you ll get a choice of nine phone numbers from which you need to select your Tesco internet phone number. You can write your chosen number in the box below. Your Number (including area code): 3d. Then, for security purposes, you ll be given a code in the image verification box, which you must type in the code box. 5 6

5 Step 4. Activating your phone account for the first time. The setup wizard will tell you that you need to go to your program. Please follow the instructions on the wizard screen. 4a. Once you ve received your confirmation you ll need to click on the link in the blue box within the (see Picture 5). This will activate your account. Note: If the doesn t appear in your inbox, please check the junk mail/spam mail. Step 5 - New customers. Setting up your on-screen phone and USB cordless dual mode phone (Model GG100/GG200). 5a. You should now continue through the Tesco internet phone setup wizard (see Picture 7). Click this link Picture 5. 4b. You now need to return to the Tesco internet phone setup wizard. To do this click the Tesco internet phone button on your task bar (see Picture 6), then click next. Picture 7. Picture 8. 5b. Click the next button at each stage to work through the wizard. 5c. Select the USB socket that you intend to use for the base station and plug the base station into this socket when prompted. 5d. Proceed through the Audio settings screens and click next. 5e. Installation is now complete and an on-screen phone will appear on your desktop. However, your computer will have made your internet phone the default audio device. That means any sounds made by your computer will be heard through it. To fix this just go to your Control Panel and make sure that either speakers or sound card are selected as the default audio device. If you need to know more, go to the Help section at Remember: Any time you connect the dual mode phone to your PC while running Tesco internet phone, the pop-up window above will appear (see Picture 8). This window allows you to choose which audio device you wish to use with Tesco internet phone. For your internet phone to work correctly, be sure to select the option for Cordless USB phone. 7 Picture 6. Click this button 8

6 Step 5 Setting up your USB cordless dual mode phone (Model GG100/GG200) - Existing customers. 5a. Make sure you have logged into your internet phone account and you can see the on-screen phone. 5b. You ll also need to check to see if you ve the latest Tesco internet phone software. click menu on the on screen phone. scroll down and click on check for updates. A pop up window will appear. If the current version and the updated version are the same then just close the window. If they re different click the Download and Install button and the new version of the software will download automatically. (If you get a file download security warning window before the software downloads click run or open to continue). Once the new version has downloaded a pop-up window will appear, click Install Now in the window to install the new version. Once the new version is installed, the on-screen phone will reappear. To check if the new version has been installed go to menu and check for updates on the on-screen phone. 5c. Select the USB socket that you intend to use for the dual mode phone and plug the base station into this socket. 5d. You ll then see the pop-up window as in Picture 9 below. This window allows you to choose which audio device you wish to choose with Tesco internet phone. For your dual mode phone to work properly please ensure you select the option for Cordless USB phone. Making and receiving phone calls. The USB cordless dual mode phone (Model GG100/GG200) This phone (Model GG100/GG200) is like a normal phone and allows you to: dial a number / hang up calls have a conversation scroll through your on-screen contact list display caller ID information The on-screen phone The on-screen phone allows you to: access your contact list add or edit your contact list send messages to other users amend all your settings, e.g. voic , etc. Remember: To make or receive calls with Tesco internet phone the on-screen phone has to be active. You can minimise the phone using the x and - buttons so you can continue to use other applications. 9 Picture 9. 10

7 Using the on-screen phone. The on-screen phone can only be used with the internet phone. This is what the on-screen phone normally looks like: What do the keys do? _ minimise on-screen phone to your task bar x minimise on-screen phone to your system tray Your status button this indicates your current online status/availability (green = available, red = busy) Menu button use this to access the on-screen phone options Display screen like a mobile s screen, displays information for your current call, your phonebook and incoming calls Function keys brings in features relevant to the function you are working on Hang up key ends a conversation or rejects an incoming call Microphone volume control Speaker volume control Number keys Dial / answer key (not in use) Using the USB cordless dual mode phone (Model GG100/GG200). The dual mode phone can be used to make both Tesco internet phone calls and ordinary landline calls. When making internet phone calls, the handset works with your computer and the on-screen phone. You can also make landline calls in the same way as a regular phone even when your computer is switched off. You should dial all your numbers using the handset

8 What do the keys do? Number keys for dialling phone numbers. Holding down 0 will toggle between 0 and + for some calling areas. Dial/answer key ( )Press this button to make internet calls and to accept any incoming calls. You can also use this button to switch the speakerphone on or off. Hang-up key ends a conversation, cancels changes or chooses upper menu in menu mode for both Tesco internet phone and landline calls. Function key 1 brings in features relevant to the function you are working on. Its function is highlighted directly above on the bottom line of the LCD display. Press this button to mute a call. Function key 2 press this button to access the phonebook. Brings in features relevant to the function you are working on. Its function is highlighted directly above on the bottom line of the LCD display. Landline key Press this button to make landline calls. Up key to access missed/received calls when phone is on idle (not in any menu). Scroll call list when in phonebook mode. Change volume during a call. Down key access redial list. Scroll call list when in phonebook mode. Change volume during a call. Flash key this can be used to switch between landline calls if you subscribe to call waiting. Intercom key Use this button to talk between handsets. What do the on-screen icons mean? LC Phone when the handset is off the base or when the user is on an internet call or if you page the handset from the base station. Mic mute the microphone is muted. Menu the phone is in menu mode. Battery shows how much charge the battery has. Antenna the handset is synchronised with its base. It flashes when the handset is searching for its base. Ringer off the ringer is turned off. Speaker phone the phone is in speaker phone mode. Landline call the phone is on a landline call. Reading the handset LCD screen. When the handset is connected to your computer and the Tesco internet phone is connected to the network, the LCD display will show PC ONLINE (see Picture 10). Picture 10. You will see TESCO 1 on one phone and TESCO 2 on the other After accessing the contact list, the LCD will display the user name in the contact list, the number of that user will be displayed if that user is an internet phone contact and is online (see Picture 11). Picture 11. When your computer is switched off, or your Tesco internet phone is not connected to the network, the LCD display will read LANDLINE CALL (see Picture 12). Picture 12. If you are on a landline call on one phone, the LCD on the other phone will show LC. If you are on an internet phone call, the LCD on the other phone will show the phone icon ( )

9 Call features for the USB cordless dual mode phone. When the LCD reads PC ONLINE, you can then dial a Tesco internet phone number directly or use your phonebook. Making an internet phone call: Dial a number using the number keys and press the dial key ( ). Dialling a number using the phonebook: Press function key 2 to access your phonebook. Select the person/number you wish to call by scrolling up and down and then press the dial key to call them using Tesco internet phone OR the landline key to call them over the landline. To end the call press hang up key ( ). To redial any of the last 10 numbers dialled: Press the Down key to access the redial list. Select the person/number you wish to call by scrolling up and down and then press the dial key to call them using Tesco internet phone OR the landline key to call them over the landline. Note: You can only redial the numbers from the handset on which you made the original call. To see who has called you and any calls you may have missed: To review calls, press the Up key to access the call log, use the Up or Down keys to choose MISSED CALL or RECEIVED CALL and press OK. Note: Only applies to landline calls if you subscribe to your home phone service providers caller ID service. To delete entries from the calls list: You can delete entries from your REDIAL, MISSED or RECEIVED call lists by either deleting the whole lot or just one at a time. To delete the calls one by one, press the OPTION Function key 1 and then select DELETE ENTRY to remove that number. Call features continued To delete the whole list while you re looking at the list, press the OPTION Function key 1 and then select DELETE ALL. The screen will then ask you to confirm if you want to DELETE ALL. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm and then all the entries on the list will be deleted. Making a landline call when your computer is on: Press the landline key ( ) the LCD should show TALK then dial the number OR dial the number using the number keys and press the landline key ( ). To make a landline call when your computer is switched off: If the PC is off or you re not connected to the internet, the LCD shows LANDLINE CALL and all calls will be landline calls. To end a call press the Hang-up key ( ). To receive a landline call when you are on an internet call: When you are on an internet call and you ve an incoming landline call, you ll hear a beep-beep sound and the base will also ring. Press the ACCEPT Function key 2 to accept the landline call. The internet call is put on hold after the landline call is accepted OR press the dial/answer key ( ) on the other handset. To receive an internet call when you are on a landline call: When you re on a landline call and you ve an incoming internet call, you ll hear a beep-beep sound and the base will also ring. Press the ACCEPT Function key 2 to accept the internet call. The landline call is put on hold after the internet call is accepted OR Press the dial/answer key ( ) on the other handset

10 Call features continued To switch between an internet call and a landline call when they are on the same handset: When you re on an internet call or landline call and another call is on hold, press the Function key 2. Press the Up or Down key to get SWITCH CALL in the menu. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm your choice. To hang-up on one of the calls, press the OPTION Function key 2. Press the Up or Down key to get the END LAND CALL or END VOIP in the on-screen menu. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm your choice. To hang-up all calls, press the the Hang-up key ( ). To adjust the volume: The handset has four volume levels. To change between them just press the Up or Down key while you re talking to someone. To change the ringer tone: Press the MENU Function key 1 to enter the menu mode. Press the Up or Down key to get to RINGER TONE in the on-screen menu. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm the selection and the menu pointer will show the current tone setting which will also play. Press the Up or Down key to select the ringtone you want. Press the OK Function 1 key to confirm your choice. To change the ringer volume: Press the MENU Function key 1 to enter the menu mode. Press the Up or Down key to get to RINGER VOLUME. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm the selection and the menu pointer will show the current setting and play the tone at that volume. Press the Up or Down key to select the volume level you want. Press the OK Function key 1 to confirm your choice. Call features continued You can use the phonebook on your handset when you are online. However, if you need to access it from your handset when you re not online, you ll need to synchronise it first whilst online. You will need to synchronise both handsets individually. Synchronising your phonebook: Press the MENU function key 1 to enter menu mode. Press the Up / Down key to the entry SYSTEM. Press the OK function key 1 to confirm the selection. Press the Up / Down key to the entry PHBK TRANSFER. Press the OK function key 1 to confirm the selection. The handset will show ERASE AND TRANSFER. Press OK soft key 1 if you want to synchronise the phonebook. Otherwise, press the EXIT function key 2 to abort the synchronisation. When the synchronisation is finished, the handset will show DONE. Note: Once the synchronisation starts, the phonebook records in the handset will be erased. You can abort the synchronisation any time by pressing the EXIT function key. If there s an incoming call during the transfer, the synchronisation will be aborted. You ll need to activate the synchronisation again after the call. When the phone is connected to the Tesco internet phone network, only one handset can access the phonebook at any one time. If the computer is off, then both handsets can access the phonebook (If they have both been synchronised) but only one can dial out at a time

11 Call features continued Call features continued To search the memory in your phonebook: Press function key 2 to enter your phonebook s memory and the first entry will be displayed. The order of display is name first in alphabetical order for the contacts that are online. All landline contacts are shown as offline. If your phonebook is empty it will display PHONEBOOK EMPTY. To search the memory use either the Up, Down or Dial keys. Dial the number as normal. To use the speakerphone Press the Dial key ( ) when you re either on an internet call or a landline call and the speakerphone will start working. To go back to using the earpiece, press the dial/answer key again. To make an intercom call When the phones are not making a call, press the INT button ( ) on one of the phones. You will see the phone icon ( ) and the words Handset number appear on the screen. Press the number of the handset you want to call and the screen will show Calling handset. The handset you are calling will ring and it s screen will show Calling from handset. To answer the intercom call press the dial button ( ) or the ACCEPT function key 1. To end the intercom call press the hang-up button ( ). Transfer a call from one handset to another. When you receive a call on one handset, press the INT button ( ), this will put the incoming call on hold and you will see the words Handset number appear on the screen. Press the number of the handset you want to call and the handset will show Calling handset. Press the hang-up button ( ) on the phone that is transferring the call to tranfer the call. The handset the call is being transferred to will ring, press the dial button ( ) on this handset to take the call. If the call is not picked up by this handset within 30 seconds it will stop ringing, the handset the call was being transferred from will ring and say CALL BACK. Press the INT button ( ) on the handset that is on the call, this will activate the intercom with the other handset and put the call on hold. Using your debit or credit card online Go to and log in to your account. Choose top-up, then click on debit or credit card and you ll be taken to a secure web page (see Picture 11). Topping-up your internet phone account continued Using an e-voucher bought in store. Buy a 5 or 10 e-voucher at any Tesco store in the UK. Go to and log in to your account. Choose top-up your account and click on redeem an e-voucher. Input the e-voucher code (which is on the e-voucher) in the space provided. Once payment has been authorised, you ll be taken to a final confirmation screen. If you ve registered your Clubcard to your Tesco internet phone account, Clubcard Points will be credited to your Clubcard when you make chargeable calls. Picture 11. 14 Help. Frequently Asked Questions 1. My internet security package/firewall is preventing me from downloading the package what should I do? How much bandwidth does Tesco internet phone use? A Tesco internet phone call uses about 3KB/sec (three kilobytes per second) inbound and outbound. This translates to a little over 10MB per hour. 3. What happens if my credit runs out? If you don t have enough credit to make a call, you ll hear a recorded message on your Tesco internet phone reminding you to top up your account. If you run out of credit during a call the call will end. 4. Can I use my Tesco internet phone account from other computers? Yes you can install and use your Tesco internet phone service on any internet enabled computer. Remember that you can only be connected to the service from a single location at any one time. 5. Can I use my Tesco internet phone account overseas? Yes you can install and use Tesco internet phone from any location as long as a suitable internet connection is available. There are no extra charges of any kind when using the service from another location. 6. I ve forgotten my password, what should I do? Tesco internet phone will use a small amount of your download limits. 8. Will I be able to make calls to the emergency services? This internet phone recognises and routes all 999 calls over the landline. If the phone is not plugged into your home phone socket (PSTN) then a call to the emergency services cannot be made. 9. Can I port my existing landline telephone number to my Tesco internet phone number? Yes, you can port your existing landline telephone number to your Tesco internet number, subject to agreement from your existing provider. This may incur a charge from your provider. 10. Please hang-up and dial the number using the handset. 16. I can t see all or some of my phonebook contacts when I am not online? You may need to synchronise the phonebook (see page 18). 17. What will happen when Chinese characters or non-standard ASCII characters are entered into the Tesco internet phone? The handset will not display these characters. PSTN Public Switched Telephone Network another name for a normal landline. USB port This is a socket on your computer that enables you to connect external devices to it, such as a memory stick, digital camera, scanner or a Tesco internet phone. USB hub A device that allows you to plug in more than one external device into a single USB port, rather like an extension lead which allows several appliances to be plugged into one wall socket.
