1 Is the world ready for mobile payments? A global consumer perspective Presented by Charles Adriaenssens and Suraya Randawa CARTES & IDentification, 16 November 2011

2 We asked 13,461 mobile phone users across the globe... whether they have used NFC, mobile web, SMS or apps to make mobile payments on their interest in using NFC or apps to pay for goods and services and to make person-to-person payments on who they think should be providing NFC mobile payments About our survey Ipsos fields its monthly online syndicate survey in 24 countries. In October 2011, we asked mobile payments questions in 17 countries to 468-1,010 respondents per country. Drawn from a general population sample per country, we interviewed mobile phone users aged years of age, with the exception of China and India where the sample is made up of more affluent adults who use a mobile phone. Results are weighted to provide equal weighting to each country based on 500 interviews per country. Unweighted base sizes: Australia n=945, Brazil n=994, India n=986, Canada n=803, Italy n=996, China n=1,010, France n=960, Germany n=976, Japan n=957, U.S. n=915, Great Britain n=970, South Korea n=497, Mexico n=479, Turkey n=495, Poland n=503, Russia n=507, Saudi Arabia n=468

13 In summary Without perceptions that infrastructure is secure, the mobile payments market cannot fulfil its potential There remains a reluctance among consumers in developed markets to make mobile payments messaging needs to highlight the benefits The trust in financial brands to successfully facilitate payments makes them natural providers of NFC In all markets, more information is required about product and service availability
