2 How to Root Galaxy Note! [GT-N7000] Rooting your Galaxy Note can allow you to install rooted apps like Titanium Backup app, Android Wifi Tether app, and brings you full control over your Galaxy Note smartphone. Why root your Galaxy Note? There s a ton of reasons but you can watch this video on why you should root your Galaxy Note. How to Root Your Galaxy Note! (This is for GT-N7000 models) This method works on all Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. This is rooting method for Gingerbread on Galaxy Note. When ICS is available for Galaxy Note, we will have another tutorial. If you want to install custom ROMs, I will have another tutorial on that. But this method gives you root without touching anything so you won t lose anything but gain root. Step 1. Put your Galaxy Note into USB Debugging mode by checking USB Debugging ON under Settings- >Applications->Development. Then connect your Galaxy Nexus to your computer via a micro-usb cable. Step 2. For Mac and Linux, driver installation is not required, skip to Step 3. For Windows, install Galaxy Note drivers by downloading the file below and running it. Download Samsung Galaxy Note Windows Drivers To verfiy that drivers are working correctly, go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Device Manager. You should see Samsung Android ADB Interface. Step 3. Download GalaxyNoteRoot.zip below, unzip it. Download GalaxyNoteRoot.zip For Windows, double-click and run runme.bat.

3 For Mac, double-click and run runmemac.sh. Or you might have to run it in terminal like this: sh runmemac.sh For Linux, double-click and run runmelinux.sh. Or you might have to run it in terminal like this: sh runmelinux.sh Step 4. Rooting should take around 5 minutes and your Galaxy Nexus will reboot when done rooting. Step 5. Verify that you have SuperUser app, if you do congratulations, you ve rooted your Galaxy Nexus! You can verify even further by installing a root app such as Titanium Backup app.

5 How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Rooted Galaxy Note! For those of you rooted Galaxy Note users who want to install/backup/restore ROM on your phone, you will want to install ClockworkMod Recovery. Before we begin, make sure you ve rooted your Galaxy Note. This method is the safest method to install ClockworkMod Recovery. Although you can use ODIN/Heimdall to flash this too, we don t recommend it as some may end up bricking their phone. With this method, you can really go wrong. Step 1. Make sure USB Debugging is checked ON under Settings->Applications->Development. Step 2. Next, go to Settings->About Phone and note the last three characters under Build Number, mine is KKA. Step 3. Download GalaxyNoteRecovery.zip and unzip to directory called GalaxyNoteRecovery. Download GalaxyNoteRecovery.zip

6 Step 4. Browse to the directory you unzipped the GalaxyNoteRecovery.zip by typing: For Windows: cd \GalaxyNoteRecovery For Mac/Linux: cd /GalaxyNoteRecovery Step 5. Type the following to verify your Galaxy Note is recognized by your computer: For Windows: adb devices For Mac:./adb-mac devices For Linux:./adb-linux devices If you get a bunch of letter and numbers plus device, you are good to go. Step 6. Type the following replacing KKA with your Galaxy Note s build number you got in Step 2. For Windows: adb push KKA\zImage /data/local/zimage For Mac:./adb-mac push KKA\zImage /data/local/zimage For Linux:

7 ./adb-linux push KKA\zImage /data/local/zimage Step 7. Then type the following to get into adb shell: For Windows: adb shell For Mac:./adb-mac shell For Linux:./adb-linux shell Step 8. Then type: su dd if=/data/local/zimage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=4096 rm /data/local/zimage reboot Step 9. Your Galaxy Note should reboot and if you see an app called CWM, you have successfully installed ClockworkMod Recovery on your rooted Galaxy Note.

8 Step 10. You can get into ClockworkMod Recovery in the two following ways: First, you can use the CWM app to get into recovery. OR you can simply hold down Volume Up, Center Home button, and Power buttons together and let go of Power button after your Galaxy Note resets then shows the Galaxy Note splash screen. 9 How to Backup and Restore ROM on Rooted Galaxy Note Using ClockworkMod Recovery! So, you ve rooted your Galaxy Note and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. What s next? Well, before you begin modding your newly rooted Galaxy Note and installing a bunch of new ROMs, I highly recommend you to make at least one backup of your rooted stock ROM. Why? Things can always go wrong but by having a backup ROM, you can always restore back to it no matter what. Besides that, you can learn to backup/restore ROMs on the go with multiple ROMs using ClockworkMod Recovery. This will allow you to change ROMs without losing your personal settings, apps, and etc etc Before we begin, you will need a rooted Galaxy Note and have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. Step 1. Hold down the Volume Up, Center Home, and Power button together until your rooted Galaxy Note resets. Step 2. Let go of the Power button when you see the Samsung Galaxy Note splash screen as shown below. Step 3. Once in ClockworkMod Recovery, choose backup and restore. *Note You can use Volume buttons to select and Power button to choose in ClockworkMod Recovery.

10 Step 4. Choose backup. This will backup your current ROM. It should take about 5 minutes. If you are just making a backup of your ROM, you can stop here. For restoring ROMs, go to the next step. Step 5. To restore a ROM choose backup and restore from the main menu.

11 Step 6. Choose restore. Step 7. Choose the backup folder you want to restore. Here, I am restoring my stock rooted ROM as you can note by the folder name with stock at the end. You can always rename your backup folders (in /clockworkmod/backup directory) to something more memorable using an app like ES File Explorer).

12 Step 8. Choose Yes to restore. Remember, restoration process completely delete whatever ROM you had before! Step 9. When restore is done, simply reboot.

14 How to Backup and Restore Apps using Titanium Backup App on Rooted Galaxy Note! For those of you who are installing new ROMs, you will certainly want to learn to use Titanium Backup app to backup and restore your apps. So when you install a new ROM, you can easily restore all your apps without manually installing them from the Market. Before we begin, you will need a rooted Galaxy Note. Step 1. Download Titanium Backup app from the Market and open the app. Step 2. Choose Schedules and hit RUN to backup all your apps. This will backup all your non-system apps plus its data. So if you ve beat all levels on AngryBirds game app, this will backup your standings on the game. You can also schedule to backup your apps here but I simply run it when I need to backup my apps. Where do the backups go? The backed-up apps get stored in your internal storage or sdcard under TitaniumBackup folder. You can also copy this folder to your harddisk or move it to another Android device for restoring. Step 3. When you install a new ROM, you can re-install Titanium Backup app. Then hit the Menu button->batch.

15 Step 4. Scroll down to the Restore options and you will see there s a bunch of different options for restore. Usually, you can use Restore missing apps with data option to restore all your apps. By using Titanium Backup app, you will be able to easily backup/restore all your apps while trying out different ROMs. Also, you can get the Pro version, which allows you to restore all apps without hitting the Install button, highly recommended for those of you who tend to install a lot of apps and ROMs. Having trouble? 16 How to Install ROM on Rooted Galaxy Note! So, you want to get better battery life? Or maybe get rid of bloatware? Maybe you just want to try different ROMs. Whatever the case, installing new ROM on your newly rooted Galaxy Note can equal a lot of fun as it s like transforming your Galaxy Note into a new phone every time you install a new ROM. (or at least that s how I feel.) By using ClockworkMod Recovery, we can install a new ROM on your rooted Galaxy Note. Before we begin, make sure you ve rooted your Galaxy Note, installed ClockworkMod Recovery, made at least one backup of your rooted stock ROM, and used Titanium Backup app to backup all your apps. Step 1. First, let s get into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power button together. Step 2. When you see the Samsung Galaxy Note splash screen like below photo, let go of the Power button. Step 3. Once in ClockworkMod Recovery, choose wipe date/factory reset. *Note You can use Volume buttons to select and Power button to choose in ClockworkMod Recovery.

17 Step 4. Choose Yes. This will erase all your personal settings and apps so make sure you ve made a backup of your ROM and apps before preceding. Step 5. Choose install zip from sdcard. Step 6. Choose choose zip from sdcard or Choose zip from internal sdcard depending on where you copied/ downloaded your ROM zip file to.

18 Step 7. You can browse your SD card or internal storage and choose the ROM zip file you are trying to install. In this example, I am installing Rocket ROM, who s ROM zip file name is ROCKET-v13-KL7-eybee1970.zip. Step 8. Choose Yes. Step 9. Once ROM installation is complete, you can reboot. Optionally, if there s additional files such as kernel or GoogleApps zip files, you can use install from sdcard option to install.

19 Step 10. If your rooted Galaxy Note reboots into the new ROM, congratulations. If you end up in a boot loop for some reason (can happen to some ROMs), restore back to your backed up ROM OR try installing another ROM. Having trouble? CLICK HERE to Watch YouTube Tutorial!
