3 Main functions and operation of the GSM module The center starts the communication, which is forwarded on the adjusted channel via the WiLARM Commander software. It can be a phone call GSM or a normal phone line, SMS, GPRS or . The communication channel can be selected using the preset three digit prefix numbers. If the alarm panel dials the prefix number, the GSM module will know the ContactID message transmit method. If the alarm panel dials any other number (not prefix, see table), the module will dial this number and established a voice communication channel between the alarm panel and the monitoring centre. In case of incoming call the WiLARM module will ring the generated phone line towards the alarm panel. If the alarm panel answers this call, remote programming can be performed. 4 Mini USB connector The inner software of the module can be refreshed via the mini USB connector. The WiLARM_Upgrader software documentation includes the whole detailed user manual. Terminal contacts The power supply and the alarm system s Tip/Ring input can be connected to the GSM module via the terminal contacts. Power supply The power supply of the module is 9-12 Volt DC. The idle current of the module is 10-30mA, but during communication it can reach 2 Amperes as well. Input The Tip/Ring input of the alarm center can be connected to the output of phone line simulator Alarm Tip/Ring. Prefix numbers The status of the phone circuit can be seen on the yellow Phone LED. Switching on th GSM module, LED blinks quickly, means telephone line initialization. After the successful process goes off. If the phone is onhook, it does not light, if it is offhook, it has a yellow light. Event qualifier Event code Group or Partition number Zone number Checksum LEDs The green and the red LEDs show the module status under power The red LED signs only some kind of activity the green LED signs the power of the network signal strength in basic position When the green and the red LEDs are blinking together, then the device is unworkable, the blinking shows in this case an error code. The error code can be seen on the status window of the WiLARM Commander software. Using WiLARM Commander software it can be set, that if GSM module transmits the ContactID code according to the dialed prefix number(sms, GPRS, Etc.) how to do it. Warning! Because of the big size of the ContactID code table in the GSM module and its settings in CID menu of WiLARM Commander must be uploaded in this menu separately! User can do it using Upload button in the left lower corner. Steps for the settings: 1. Enter telephone numbers to alert in Phone numbers menu 2. In case of voice alert needed, installer can upload the siren tone or any kind of voice message (8KHz,8bit, mono, wav), in the Sound menu (CID voice, message number 7) 3. Enter to CID menu 4. Give the name for the client/object (Name field) 5. Give names for zones/partitions according to it was set in the alarm panel 6. Go to the event code, you want alert from and check the preset phone number and the way of the alert, SMS and/or voice calling 5

6 If you want to receive alert from all ContactID messages to a phone number, then select these numbers and SMS and/or Calling and press Combination for all. This setting can be deleted by pressing the Clear all button 7. Press Upload button to send the settings to the module Further settings for the GSM module can be done using the regular way and can be saved using the Save button in the lower right on the status screen Important! In the CID Monitor field, the last received ContactID code can be seen. If you stop the cursor on this, a help bubble will appear showing the details of the message LED operation chart LED operation chart Green LED status Meaning Lighting continuously It can not connect to the network 1-2 blinks Low network signal strength, another place or external antenna is recommended 3 blinks Reasonable network signal strength, a test call is suggested 4 blinks Good network signal strength 5 blinks Excellent network signal strength Green and red LEDs blink Error code together 1 blinks Initialization 2 blinks GSM module error 3 blinks SIM card is missing 4 blinks SIM card is locked with PIN code, but the PIN code has not given in the programmer software Pushbutton The button is used for adjusting the GSM module, erasing the memory and refreshing the internal firmware. Deleting the configuration (master reset) - Unplug the device (remove the external power supply), unplug the USB cable - Push the reset button while the device is switched off 6

7 - Plug the power supply and release the Reset button immediately - The two LEDs of the module light up and blink one - When both LEDs turn off, push the Reset button again - The green LED shows, that the configuration Reset was successful - Unplug the device again Refreshing the internal firmware - Launch the Wilarm_Upgrade.exe software - Unplug the device (remove the power supply), unplug the USB connector - Hold on the reset button and plug the USB cable - The LEDs light lower, which means, that the module is in BOOT mode Attention! If you do not start the refreshment within 10 seconds, the module automatically leaves BOOT mode and restarts itself. - Open the firmware with the Open+Upgrade button - The refreshment of the internal software has been starting - At the end of the process the PASS title signs the successful finish - Restart the WiLARM GSM module SIM holder The holder of SIM card, (the SIM was bought from the network service provider). The device is network independent, so it accepts any kind of cards. It is better to switch off the PIN request of the SIM card 7

8 Antenna connector Standard SMA/F connector. The included stick antenna can be connected here or the optional types of antennas with extension cables. Telephone circuit Attention! On the telephone circuit the voltage can reach 72 Volt as well. Do not touch it under power! The task of the circuit is to create a standard 48V phone line from the power voltage. It can be measured on the Tip/Ring terminal contacts. The phone line input of the alarm center can be connected to here. Prepare for the installation - Insert the SIM card to any cellphone, disable the voice mail, activate the caller identity sending, do a network signal strength measurement - Insert a SIM card without PIN code request into the module, connect the power supply and the center phone line output (Tip/Ring) Programming with SMS commands The main parameters of the GSM module can be programmed via SMS commands as well. The adjustment of the GSM module can be done with the programming SMS commands as well as the smaller modifications after the installation (phone numbers to alert, etc.). The detailed commands are available with examples in SMS commands table. Controlling the GSM module with SMS commands The device can be maintained via the command SMS (test, arming, switching output, etc.) The detailed commands are available with examples SMS commands table. 8

Example 1234pin: SETFRW: SETFRW: 1234t Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Error descripition ACT LED stays red during alarm. The caller phone number (GSM module) can not be seen. The module sometimes does not call. The ContactID module does not communicate with the alarm center. Solution The module can not send the message because the card is out of credit or a wrong phone number was given. Check the SMS center number of the module SIM card. The caller ID is disabled on the card. The very old cards (more than 10 years) could cause problem. Measure the Tip/Ring points of the module. Basically it should be 48V. If the center communicates, it should be 5-8V. 9
