The technology helps me work on the go, and maintain a good work life balance. I need to be able to manage the clinic even when I m not physically there. I can now manage my practice from wherever I am. I review my clinical notes while I m commuting, I can manage my staff payroll when I m on holidays, and I get clinic calls diverted to my mobile on the days we re not opened so I can take new bookings. What was your Believe Big moment? I had some strong doubts about whether I made the right decision to go out on my own. Hi Anthony, could you tell us a bit about your business? Calm Dental Care is a family dental practice in Lidcombe, NSW. We provide quality care across a wide range of treatments in a calm and relaxing environment. What insight can you give about a business in the professional services and health industry? We value our patients, and their wellbeing always comes first. I initially started with a small team of two parttime employees, working only two and a half days a week, all while I maintained a part-time job elsewhere. Within a few months, our first patients started referring us, and after some marketing we started getting busier. I ve since had to bring on three new staff members, and now we open six days a week. Was there a business growth hurdle? And how did you overcome it? I didn t purchase all the expensive equipment initially, like the larger x-ray machines. I would refer patients to x-ray centres, but it was wasting time and money. As we got busier, I invested in the equipment. It has been a great investment for the business, not to mention for our patients. express how excited they were to have a dentist open up. Some people even requested to make appointments before we d even opened. It was all this positive reaction that really got me excited about my new practice, and it was the moment I knew I had made the right decision. Who is in your support network that helped you? My family and my partner, Jen gave me all the support and encouragement I needed to pursue my own business. My mentor Dr. Phillip Ly gave me invaluable clinical guidance in my early years as a dentist, and generously offered me sound business advice when I started the clinic.
