Needs Analysis Education on ehealth in Baltic Sea Region Countries Part-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) 12
ehealth education survey (DE, DK, FI, LT, NO) This study has revealed a wide range of programmes and courses in the five countries that include ehealth elements more or less extensively. Apart from Lithuania all countries also reported on programmes in pure ehealth. This certainly applies to Finland which has included eight of these, but also Germany, Denmark, and Norway have some of these programmes. ( PSC / WP meeting, Gdansk, 12-14th March
Moreover there are in all countries relatively many programmes with a high emphasis on the technical, engineering part of ehealth. But especially in the education of health care professionals (physicians, nurses etc.) the integration of ehealth elements is often not existing or marginal. Sometimes one subject in the domain of medical informatics is compulsory. Education concerning the management of information systems is normally not mandatory for medical / HC students. Event, venue, Date 14
Survey for the Teachers (DE, DK, FI, LT, NO) -The level of knowledge of ehealth in their home universities was described satisfactory or poor (62 %) -There is a lack of information concerning the content of ehealth, teachers` pedagogical strategies to teach ehealth, lack of resources to develop ehealth education, lack of knowledge and interest of leaders, curriculum doesn`t support ehealth area Event, venue, Date 15
- Three out of four teachers use international connections in teaching ehealth - Advantages of ehealth: better and fast information, better quality of care, effectiveness in acute cases, positive cost effects, well organized central archive, transparency, knowledge sharing among professionals, patient empowerment - 40 % of the teachers said that students require more ehealth related education Event, venue, Date 16
Multidisciplinary education in ehealth Part-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) 17
ehealth Module for the Bachelor Students Module for MA Students Framework of the Joint European ehealth Master Programme A concept of the programme (catalogue) for qualifying all professionals in HC to use ehealth in caring of elderly Online module for teachers (Topic: How to create an online course, how to teach ehealth) Framework how a course for citizens should be created (content, teaching methods, level) PS C / WP meeting, Gdansk, 12-14th March
Citizen-centered ehealth: citizen should be able to control his/her own care plan integrated to the: medical services (diagnostic tools, lab, images, pharmacy, monitoring etc.), health care delivery (continuity of care: primary care, 2 nd specialized opinion etc.), financing and expenditure (integrated financial / political system: insurance companies, social security etc.), other services (integrated community: education, prevention, social services, statistics / public health etc.). (Telemedicine Alliance 2004) Event, venue, Date 19
The aims of ehealth services directed at the citizens can be divided into four main areas: 1) General health information 2) Personal information my data -Electronic Patient Records (EPR s) and Computerized Order Entry Systems (CPOE): -The monitoring of chronic diseases from a distance -Online patient support contact and communication 3) Peer sharing and support - network 4) Lifestyle information education Event, venue, Date 20
Components of an ehealth education Components of an ehealth education -Learning outcomes should cover ehealth knowledge, skills and attitudes, -Utilization of Bloom`s taxonomy -View for the different roles of professionals -Multidisciplinary content: nursing science (patient empowerment) and public health, medical science (telemedicine), technology (ICT etc.), economics, management (decision making, project work) Event, venue, Date 21
Components of an ehealth education Policy Framework Organizational & Social Framework Care Education Admin Surveillance Technical Framework Event, venue, Date 22

Recommendations for ehealth Education Part-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) 24
IMIA Recommendations The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) agreed on international recommendation in health informatics / medical informatics education back in 2000 and these recommendations were revised in The revised version of the recommendations differentiates between two main roles for health care professionals in relation to educational needs, being health care professionals as users of ehealth and health care professionals as ehealth specialists. PSC / WP meeting, Gdansk, 12-14th March
Recommendations of the ICT for Health project To raise awareness of decision makers (management board, politicians, professors) regarding need for education in ehealth To integrate more education in ehealth for health care professionals In BA / MA, further education To consider more the issue of technology acceptance within education in ehealth (less technology-oriented) To integrate a multi-professional and multi-disciplinary view in education in ehealth PSC / WP meeting, Gdansk, 12-14th March
