Factsheet Press February 2016 Orange mobile financial services Mobile financial services are one the two areas of diversification, alongside connected objects, identified in the Orange Group s Essentials2020 strategic plan. Increased mobile phone penetration and advances in technology are now enabling the development of solutions that are better adapted to customers needs. The Group s overall objective is to reach 400 million in revenues from mobile financial services in The Group offers three different types of mobile financial services depending on the country. 1. Mobile money Mobile money is a simple, secure alternative which is easy to access for the large majority of the population that has no bank account in African countries. It is a universal solution which works on all types of mobile phone. It provides customers with a mobile wallet and enables them to send money from mobile to mobile, withdraw or deposit cash at an Orange Money outlet, and pay their bills remotely. New services are developing, such as merchant payment, online payment, micro-credit and micro-saving solutions, and "bank-to-wallet" transfers between bank and mobile accounts. Offer : Orange Money 2. Mobile payment Mobile payment encompasses solutions which enable customers to pay in shops with an NFCcompatible smartphone. Orange favours NFC technology because it is secure (NFC SIM card), simple and intuitive. NFC mobile payment is regarded as the first brick of a mobile banking offer. Offer: Orange Cash 3. Mobile banking Mobile banking is a 100% mobile offer which gives customers access to a full range of banking services: current and saving account, mobile payment, money transfer and access to personal loans. Offer: Orange Finanse and Orange Bank (not yet available)
1. Mobile Money with Orange Money in Africa and the Middle East What is Orange Money? Orange Money is a mobile wallet account linked to an Orange mobile telephone number designed to meet the needs of customers in Africa and the Middle East, where most transactions are still made in cash. The success of Orange Money is down to its capacity to convert cash into electronic money very simply via a mobile phone. The Orange Money app uses USSD technology, which is very similar to the text messaging system and is compatible with 99% of mobile phones. It makes phone transactions totally secure 24/7. Today, the Orange Money service is in high demand, particularly by Orange customers in Sub- Saharan Africa, where less than 24% of the population have a bank account but 80% have a mobile phone. Orange Money accounts can be opened free of charge and the system is very easy to use: deposits and money transfers are made via the standard GSM network. Three types of transaction can be carried out using the Orange Money service: money transfers: users can make an electronic money transfer to any other Orange Money customer living in the same country. In some countries, it is also possible to make international transfers and even transfers to customers of other operators; payments: users can pay certain bills remotely and easily buy phone credit; financial services: including savings and insurance solutions, depending on the country. Orange Money key figures The service was first launched in Côte d'ivoire in December 2008 Orange Money is available in 14 countries in Africa and Middle Eastern (in order of launch): Côte d'ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Madagascar, Kenya, Botswana, Cameroon, Mauritius, Guinea, Egypt (under the name Mobicash), Tunisia (under the name Mobimoney), Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic. 110 Orange customers in AMEA at end Orange Money customers at end December billion euros-worth of transactions in million transactions made in 2015 about 100,000 points of sale at end December 2015 Côte d Ivoire and Mali are ranked in the top 21 worldwide for Mobile Money (GSMA criteria: number of active clients)
Flagship launches of Orange Money: Madagascar s three telecom operators, Orange, Telma and Airtel introduced a service that enables interoperability between their respective mobile money services in December This allows customers to send and receive money from all mobile money accounts on the market, which represents slightly more than 4 million users, including 1.5 million Orange customers. This is only the third time that operator interoperability has been introduced in the world, and is the first for the Group. It is also the first case in which interoperability has included all market operators from day one. Orange Collecte: Africa s first 100% mobile crowdfunding service, designed for Orange Money customers. In September 2015, Orange launched its first mobile crowdfunding platform, Orange Collecte, in Côte d'ivoire. With this platform, private individuals and charities can finance their personal projects (marriages, birthdays, etc.) or money-raising projects (fundraising, events, etc.) by appealing to their networks. This novel solution is open to all Orange Money customers in Côte d'ivoire. Contributors can make donations using their Orange Money electronic wallet. Orange is investing in Afrimarket, a leading cash-to-goods money transfer start-up: With Afrimarket, Orange Money is enriching its mix of mobile financial services with a secure, userfriendly "cash-to-goods" feature that is notably available from France. Afrimarket enables customers to pay directly from Europe to cover the day-to-day needs of their family and friends in Africa. Orange customers can access the site and pay with their Orange Money account. International money transfer via mobile by Orange Money: The Orange Money International Transfer service has been available since July 2013 and enables customers to transfer money between mobile phones in three African countries: Côte d Ivoire, Mali and Senegal. In March 2015, this service was extended to Burkina Faso for transfers between Côte d Ivoire and Burkina Faso and in July 2015 between Senegal and Burkina Faso. It is the first time that Orange Money has operated in a country where Orange has no presence as an operator, thanks to a partnership with Airtel. Customers can send and receive money via their mobile phones at competitive rates, safely and securely, without needing to travel long distances with money in their pocket or send cash via a third party. Services aimed at customers with bank accounts: Orange has joined forces with banks (BNP Paribas, Ecobank, Bank of Africa, Microcred and with other local banks in Côte d'ivoire) to enable customers with bank accounts to use their mobile phones to transfer money easily and at any time between their bank account and their Orange Money account. They can then take advantage of the full range of Orange Money services to buy goods and services, pay their bills or transfer money to family and friends who do not have bank accounts. These services are available in Mali, Côte d'ivoire, Madagascar, Cameroon, Niger and Guinea Conakry. They will also be available in Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Partnerships like these with banks make it easier to transfer money between people with bank accounts and the rest of the population. The Orange Money smartphone app: The Orange Money service is also available via a mobile app which makes it even easier to use for smartphone users. What is more, these customers do not need to enter the recipient's mobile phone number: they just need to select the person in their
contacts list. The mobile app enables customers to transfer money between phones; to transfer money from their bank account to their mobile wallet and vice versa; to pay certain bills (water, electricity, phone, TV, school, etc.); to buy call credits; to redeem electronic gift vouchers; to check their account; and many other services. It is available in Guinea, Niger, Senegal, Côte d Ivoire, Mali and Madagascar. 2. Mobile Payment with Orange Cash in France and Spain What is Orange Cash? Orange Cash is an application that transforms the smartphone into a payment tool. Regardless of which bank the customer is with, customers can pay using contactless technology via an NFCenabled mobile phone equipped with an NFC SIM Card. With Orange Cash, customers can send and receive immediate money transfers from friends and family, pay for purchases on any website that accepts Visa, and keep a check on their balance and transaction history. Orange was the first mobile operator in Europe to launch a contactless mobile payment service. The Orange Cash service was first launched in Poland in December 2012 in partnership with MasterCard, then in Spain in May 2015 and finally in October 2015 all over France. In France and Spain, Orange Cash is a prepaid payment service, operated in partnership with Wirecard and Visa Europe, that can be used in any outlet which accepts contactless Visa payments. Today in France: 100,000 customers have created an Orange Cash account 50% have credited their account and used the service 3 million euros have been spent via Orange Cash In order to develop further usage, another important factor besides interoperability, is acceptance by merchants. The number of payment terminals that support contactless payments is increasing, allowing for the expansion of mobile payment services: in France more than 509,000 points of sale (35%) and 354,000 merchants are now equipped. 354,000 merchants, representing around 30% of the total, are now equipped in France including more than 50% of fast food chains and major retailers. This includes around 50 national brands and 13 industries. in Poland 398,000 points of sale (80%) are equipped in Spain over 600,000 points of sale (>50%) are equipped a total of 5.1 million points of sale are equipped with Visa/MasterCard-enabled payment terminals are available in Europe
3. Mobile Banking with Orange Finanse in Poland and Orange Banque in France a) Orange Finanse in Poland What is Orange Finanse? Orange Finanse is a 100% mobile banking service launched in Poland in October It is an app that provides access to a range of banking services on a smartphone, including current accounts, overdrafts, loans, savings and mobile-related features such as money transfer to a mobile number (regardless of recipient s operator or bank), contactless payment in points of sale and cash machine withdrawals using the mobile phone. Customers can also take advantage of retailers' special geo-located offers and promotions. Key success factors: - the overlap between telecoms and financial services offers a number of benefits and is a unique value proposition for Orange customers. - the simple and efficient sales process (Orange network of own-brand shops, agents, call centres and the website and Orange Finanse mobile app). More than 250,000 Polish customers have signed up for the service b) Orange Bank in France What is Orange Bank? Groupama and Orange have entered into exclusive negotiations for the creation of Orange Bank, an innovative, 100% mobile bank. These negotiations could result in the acquisition by Orange of a 65% stake in Groupama Banque. This new banking model will enable Groupama to strengthen its online banking business and Orange to successfully diversify into banking services. Orange will bring its digital knowledge in order to meet the new expectations of customers wishing to manage their money at anytime, in a transparent and customised manner from their mobile. The services offered will cover all standard banking services as well as savings, loans and insurance services. The launch of Orange Bank is planned for the start of 2017 in France. Why Groupama? an alignment with the Group s strategy and vision with regards to the development of an innovative banking activity; management of marketing and pricing policies by Orange; robust and scalable banking assets, enabling Orange to go fast (banking license, IT system and reporting); similar ambition to launch a disruptive offer in terms of features, services and interfaces; Groupama will contribute an additional distribution power of 3,000 Groupama and Gan agencies and an asset of 13 million clients.
What are Orange s assets? a strong and internationally recognized brand; a large potential customer base of 28 million mobile customers; a wide-spread distribution network thanks to Orange shops; marketing and technological expertise; an opportunity for bundling telecom and financial services; an excellent knowledge of our customers and the ability to target specific audiences: digital natives and young professionals; a legitimacy in financial services linked to the success of Orange Money in the Middle East and Africa region, and the successful launch of Orange Finanse in Poland. The offer will be exportable to other European markets such as Spain and Belgium. Press contacts: Orange press office: , service.presse@orange.com
