2 UBI-4000 Start Up Instructions Step One: Charging the UBI-4000 Use the UBI-4000 wall charger that came with your UBI-4000 to charge your device: Turn the power switch to off. Plug the wall charger into the wall socket, then plug it into the charger port on the under side of the UBI If the device needs a charge, a green light will appear. When the green light goes out, the device is fully charged. Charge Time: Standard Battery 1-2 Hours, Extended Battery 3-4 Hours. When using a wall charger always have the power switch set to off Step Two: Preparing the UBI-4000 for Operation The first time you turn the UBI-4000 on, the red light under the cell icon and the blue light under the satellite icon will flash. The red light will stop flashing first when it makes contact with the cell towers and the blue light will stop flashing and go out. When it connects with 4 satellites it will come back on without flashing. This may take several minutes. Going forward, the UBI-4000 will only need 2 satellites to operate. The red light will typically wink (flash) every 3-5 seconds. The blue light will stay solid. Your UBI-4000 is ready to be tracked. If the blue light goes out, move the UBI-4000 to a location where it will connect with the satellites; once the connection is made, the device is operational. Step Three: Tracking and Viewing Tracks Go to - The Customer Log In Center is on the homepage If you ordered via the internet, your login and password were ed to you. If you ordered via telephone, your login and password are listed on your welcome letter included in the package with your UBI Feel free to call us with any password change requests: After logging on, click the Launch UBI button and you will be taken to your own secure mapping screen. You may see a location in MD; this is where your device was tested and/or programmed in preparation for shipment to you. Track Now -To see where the UBI-4000 is when using the Track-On-Demand plan, the Extended A plan, or the Extended B plan (there no need for this when using the Unlimited plan), click on the Track Now button. The mapping and device are set up to refresh after 35 seconds. When the cell towers are busy, this may take several more seconds. If the location doesn t update after the screen refreshes, wait 15 more seconds then click on today s date in the calendar to the right, which will refresh your track. The top right corner shows the last time there was a track.

3 GPS Map Features Key for GPS Map Features 1. Your UBI-4000 unique number/s and information report contains: longitude, latitude, date, time, speed and course of the tracks 2. Configure SOS: see SOS section of this guide 3. Your unique map 4. Your unique UBI-4000 number 5. How long ago the most recent track was logged and the speed at that time 6. Refresh box: your UBI-4000 is programmed to refresh whether or not this checked 7. Longitude & latitude of the last track. 8. Drive Report 9. Bread Crumbs connect the tracks with a red line 10. Calendar shows present tracks and past dates with tracks by shading those dates 11. Track Now to initiate a single track 12. GeoFence: see GeoFence section of this guide 13. Right click 2 tracks to see trip info 14. Left click to see address information: see Enabling Address section

4 Track Types Bulls eye with Red center - most recent track Squares, indicating tracks, will change color depending upon how recent the track occurred. The more recent the track, the darker the color; Light Green Square Dark Green Square Black Square Track Data -When you move the cursor/mouse over a track, a pop-up window will show which track of that day it is, and the track s date, time, speed and course. Tip: When you left click on the map, hold the mouse button down so that when the mouse moves, the map moves.

5 The Address Feature When you click on a track, the address indicating the location, will appear: If this pop-up window doesn t appear, follow these easy steps listed below to enable this feature. Enabling the Address Feature 1. Within your browser frame, select Tools 2. Click on Internet Options 3. Select the Security tab 4. Click on Custom or Custom Settings 5. Scroll approximately half way down the list to the Miscellaneous listing 6. The first sub listing under that is Accessing Data Sources Across Domains 7. Click on Enable 8. Click OK, then click OK again This feature is now enabled The SOS Feature Push and hold the SOS button on the side of the UBI-4000 for 3-4 seconds to issue an alert that will be sent to up to 5 and/or text message addresses. Once initiated, a track and a sent message will occur once every 2 minutes for the next 40 minutes. SOS Button

6 Configuring the SOS 1. Log in to your map 2. Select Configure SOS 3. Enter up to 5 and/or text message addresses then click Update Addresses 4. The SOS feature has been configured and will function each time the SOS button is pressed and held for 3-4 seconds

7 Setting Up a GeoFence When logged into your map, you can set up the GeoFence feature so that you receive an alert when the UBI-4000 leaves or enters the parameter that you established. Note: The Track-On-Demand plan will not notify you that the GeoFence has been broken until you select track now. The other plans will send you the notification automatically when you select track now or when the next pre-programmed automatic track occurs. When in motion sensor mode, Hibernator Battery Packs can take 5-7 minutes to wake up and start tracking again once they are in motion. You may set as many GeoFences as you like. Once broken, you need to reset the fence. You may do this as many times as you d like. 1. Click on GeoFence. You ll see your map adjust and new options available where GeoFence was listed. 2. At this point, you will need to use your mouse to establish the boundaries by zooming in or panning out. Once you have the view that matches the area you d like to secure, then you can type in an address or text message address and click set. 3. If you click today s date right away, it will clear the GeoFence that you just established, otherwise, you have established a GeoFence. A message will be sent if the UBI-4000 enters or leaves this area.

8 Extended Battery The extended battery can last up to hours or more if tracking is only done occasionally. The extended battery takes 2 1/2-3 hours to recharge and uses the same charger options as the standard battery. The standard battery lasts 7-13 hours, depending upon how frequently the UBI-4000 is being tracked. How To Change Extended and Standard Batteries Should you need or want to change out the battery, we recommend the following: 1. Use a knife and/or tweezers or similar tool so that when carefully removing and inserting, there isn't any damage done to the battery or the UBI Gently pry the white connector loose to remove the battery without pulling too hard on the wiring. 3. With the 3 prongs facing the outside of the UBI-4000, gently press the base of the white connector until it is flush with the base of the UBI Remember to charge the battery in the UBI-4000 before use. Hardwire Kit The hardwire kit is used with cars, boats,etc. that use a 12 volt battery, so that batteries and recharging time are not necessary. It is not necessary to have a professional install the hardwire kit; you can do it yourself. Hardwire Kit Recommendations: Gently remove the battery since it is not necessary. Place the UBI-4000 in the glove compartment or other area where it won t overheat, run the wires under the dashboard and connect directly to the battery. Caution: The UBI-4000 will overheat at 140 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Do not place the UBI near the engine or in the window. Do not connect the UBI-4000 underneath the steering column.

9 Hibernator Battery Packs Hibernator Battery Packs come in 2 sizes: 7.8 Amp/Hr and 15.6 Amp/Hr. How long do the rechargeable batteries last? Constant Power Motion Sensor 7.8 Amp/Hr Up to 7 Days Up to 30 Days 15.6 Amp/Hr Up to 14 Days Up to 45 Days How to Use the Hibernator Battery Pack 1. When you first receive the Hibernator Battery Pack, the batteries should be charged. It takes 5-6 hours to charge the 7.8 Amp/Hr pack and 7-8 hours to charge the 15.6 Amp/Hr pack. (figure 1) 2. The motion sensor circuit board connects the UBI-4000 and the battery pack. The battery pack and the UBI-4000 rest, with the motion sensor, inside the case, as shown in figure 1 as shown (figure 2) on opposite page. 3. When the batteries are fully charged, connect the motion sensor to the UBI-4000, then to the batteries. Use a knife and/or tweezers, or similar tool, to carefully remove the battery and insert the motion sensor. Gently pry the white connector loose to remove the battery without pulling too hard on the wiring. With the 3 prongs facing the outside of the UBI-4000, gently press the base of the white connector on the motion sensor until it is flush with the base of the UBI The motion sensor has a flap on the circuit board. Under the flap is a small white switch. When the switch is at the on mode, the device is available for tracking all the time. 11 Enabling Cell Phones, PDAs and Blackberries The maps on our website can be viewed on cell phones, PDAs and Blackberries when a computer is not readily available. How well each displays is dependent upon the equipment manufacturer of your device. The device must be capable of connecting to or is already set up on a plan to connect to the internet by your service provider. It must be WAP enabled. How To Enable From your cell phone, PDA or Blackberry device go to the following links: For the Cell; Replace the blue (imei) area with your UBI-4000 six digit device number and follow the directions on the link For PDAs; Replace the blue (imei) area with your UBI-4000 six digit device number and follow the directions on the link For the Blackberry (Perl); Replace the blue (imei) area with your UBI-4000 six digit device number and follow the directions on the link If after following all the link steps and you have a problem connecting to the map, contact your device provider to be sure the device is WAP enabled and for other suggested fixes. NOT ALL CELL PHONES, PDAS OR BLACKBERRIES ARE INTERNET CAPABLE DUE TO THE AGE OR TECHNICAL LIMITATIONS OF SOME MODELS.

12 FAQ I am logged in and on today s date, but I see yesterday s tracking. Why? Once you have a track today, then your tracks from yesterday will fall into place and correspond with yesterday s date. Today s date will show the new tracks at this point. This is standard. Will the UBI-4000 work outside the USA? The UBI-4000 uses tri-band GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz for worldwide coverage. In areas where there is only 900 MHz supported, there will be a gap in communication and tracks will not be viewed, however, it is rare that there is just this one frequency available. Contact us to special order units that support the 900 MHz. When I track my UBI-4000 in the same spot, why are the tracks next to each other, but in slightly different areas? This is called a differential. The satellites are owned by the Department of Defense. The DOD purposely skews the accuracy of tracks by 5-30 yards, so, while some tracks will be very accurate, others can be slightly off. This is done for security reasons, is the case for any nongovernment owned GPS tracking device that uses satellites and can only be controlled by the DOD.
