3 How to order and key scheme dates Or, what do I need to do and when do I need to do it by... 1 Choose a computer package and add accessories You can elect a maximum ONE main computer package and combination of accessories up to 75 RBSelect charge per month. NOTE: If you ordered a computer package last year, this is a three year scheme so the next time you can elect is in 2015 Order by 11th September Order online by logging onto Once you login, click on the 'Home Computer' benefit to complete your order. 4 What s included with each package? Throughout the period of hire, your employer must ensure that the equipment is adequately protected, and therefore each package includes a series of useful extras which are bundled with it. This helps give you peace-of-mind as the RBSelect charge is fixed for 36 months, and continues even if the equipment no longer works or is lost, stolen or damaged. Extended warranty The extended warranty provided by the manufacturer covers the hardware of your equipment and during the limited warranty period, the manufacturer will at its discretion, repair or replace any defective component. Parts and labour will be covered. Please refer to the package pages for detail of what's included. Please note that the Apple warranty for ipad and ipad mini is only 12 months as standard and can optionally be extended for 24 months, plus you also have the option to choose the accidental damage and theft insurance (see below). Internet security RBS acquire the asset on your behalf and for your use. In order that the asset is properly protected against virus and malware, we have decided to build this valuable feature into each package to ensure that you can enjoy uninterrupted use of the technology that you choose. The internet security software has updates for 36 months and includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and firewall. This software is designed to keep your computer safe online for the duration of the scheme. The internet security software included will be specific to the Windows or Apple OS X operating system of the machine that you choose. Internet security is not included with tablet packages. Protective case (tablets only) This clean, protective case increases the functionality of the tablet, without losing access to any buttons, jacks, camera, or the light sensor. Corners protect against drops and bumps, and the case doubles as a cool stand - perfect when watching videos. It's bundled with the tablets to help protect them for the duration of the scheme. INSURANCE 36 MONTHS Optional worldwide accidental damage and theft insurance with no excess (tablets only) As the hire agreement is for 36 months, and the tablet packages are such portable devices, likely to be taken away from the home, it makes sense to protect them for the full length of the agreement. Please note that the other main packages in the scheme need to be covered by your home insurance for accidental damage and theft. FREE DELIVERY Free delivery to your home address at your convenience To make it as easy as possible for you to receive the chosen equipment, a courier delivery date will be agreed with you. 42 How do the savings work? The illustration below demonstrates the RBSelect charge and savings you will be able to make if you elect this benefit. Although the RBSelect charge is taken free of tax and national insurance, the benefit itself is taxable in the form of Benefit in Kind Tax on a portion of the value of the benefit every year. The table below shows how this works. Benefit-in-kind (BIK) Having a computer to use in your home as part of this benefit is considered by HM Revenue & Customs to be a taxable benefit which they refer to as a Benefit in Kind. All price tables include the most likely effect of the Benefit in Kind adjustment to show the net cost to you for a computer in the programme. Do not return the equipment to Let's Connect. Please note that electing not to return the equipment may give rise to a Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax and VAT charge based upon the value of the computer or ipad at that time and you will be advised of the details before you make a decision. Unfortunately, we are not presently able to confirm the rate at which Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax will be charged. HRMC will assign a value to the equipment before the end of 36 month term. We understand that based on current practice the additional tax charge is expected to be between 5% and 10% of the original value (Inc VAT) of the computer or ipad. It is important to advise however that this is only a guide and the actual tax charge could be based on 40% of the original value (Inc. VAT) of the computer or ipad. The end of term value depending on the percentage agreed for any BIK calculation will also attract a VAT charge at the prevailing rate, which is currently 20%. The communication that you get from Let s Connect at the end of the term will confirm the percentage of BIK and VAT that will apply to you. This communication will help you decide what option you choose - to return or not to return the equipment to Let s Connect. Can I change the specifications of the packages on offer? No, the specification for each package is fixed and you cannot change the specifications across the packages. 3. What s included in the package? If you do not have an external business address Microsoft are happy that you get a colleague to order on your behalf, although orders are limited to one per address. 10. What are the differences between Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office? Microsoft Windows is an operating system a basic collection of programs and drivers pre-installed to provide the user with an interface, and allowing the computer to run. Windows 8 is Microsoft s latest (and 8th) version. Microsoft Office is a separate suite of software, with Word, Excel and PowerPoint being the most well-known and widely-used elements of the program. 11. What do I do if the computer is damaged or parts are missing when I receive it? You should notify the Home Computer Helpline on within seven days of receipt of any damaged equipment or to advise them of any missing items. 12. What if the computer stops working? Call the manufacturer s warranty line as detailed in your documentation and on the last page of this brochure. If it cannot be repaired remotely, the repair will be undertaken through a collect and return service. This service is free of charge throughout the lock in period, but is restricted to the hardware only. 13. What does the extended warranty include? The extended warranty provided by the manufacturer covers the hardware of your computer and during the limited warranty period, the manufacturer will at its discretion, repair or replace any defective component. The following items are classed as consumable components, and therefore their warranty period may be limited to less than the full extended warranty: External keyboard mouse accumulators, batteries, AC adaptors external loudspeakers, microphone, headphones UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Please check with the individual manufacturers below for exact terms and conditions. The defective pixel policy on notebook displays and TFT screens conforms to lso Class II standards. You should call the Home Computer Helpline on who will take up the query on your behalf, to try and resolve your issue. 15. Can I just order accessories? You can only order accessories if you order one of the main computer packages. 16. Is there a warranty for any accessories I choose? These are not covered under the extended warranty that covers the main computer packages provided through the programme. However, individual manufacturer warranty terms and conditions will apply. If you have any issues with any of the accessories you have selected, you will need to contact the manufacturer directly. 17. Will the internet security software supplied be the latest version? Yes, and updates will be free for 36 months from the date of installation. Effects on you 18. Do I have to pay tax on the benefit? The benefit of having a Home Computer through RBSelect is considered by HM Revenue & Customs to be a taxable benefit which they refer to as Benefit in Kind. All price tables include the most likely effect of the Benefit in Kind adjustment to show the net charge to you for a computer in the programme. Please note that the end of term value of the package cannot be determined at this time. The tables are based on the end of term value as per the current market trends. 19. What happens if I leave RBS? If you leave RBS for any reason within the 36 month period, there will be a termination fee (equivalent to the outstanding monthly charges) payable. This will be made as a net pay deduction i.e. it will not benefit from any tax and National Insurance savings. You will also need to pay a VAT charge on this termination fee as per the prevailing VAT rate at that time. Where you have elected optional Accidental Damage and Theft Insurance as part of your package the termination fee will include an element to cover the outstanding charges for this insurance and your insurance will continue for the remaining period of the original 36 month contract once you have left the group. 44 20. How much will it cost me? The cost to you depends on which package you choose and your own personal tax situation. Please refer to the tables shown at the bottom of the computer package specification pages. 21. When do my payments start? Your RBSelect charge for this benefit will begin on your salary pay date in the month detailed on page 3 and will continue every month during the 36 month period. 22. Can I elect to make a higher RBSelect charge and shorten the term? No, the period is fixed at 36 months. Order and delivery process 23. By what date do I need to make an election? For key scheme dates including order deadline, please refer to page What happens once I have placed my order? Once you have ordered online, you will receive an confirming your order. The order will then be verified by RBS, and Let s Connect will begin processing it. 25. When can I expect delivery? For delivery dates, please refer to page 3. All deliveries are subject to stock availability, over which Let's Connect or RBS have no control. To help the delivery process, you should place your order as early as you can during the Benefit election window. You may cancel your election at anytime up to the end of the Benefit election window on 11th September Can I have the equipment delivered to my workplace? For security reasons, RBS does not accept personal deliveries at workplaces, so your computer needs to be delivered to your home, or similar residential address i.e. family, friends. Please note that the delivery needs to be signed for by a person over 18 years old. 28. What happens at the end of the 36 months? In line with an agreement we reached with HM Revenue & Customs, at the end of the 36 month period, Let s Connect will contact you and provide you with two options: 1. Return the equipment to Let's Connect. Let s Connect can collect the equipment for disposal according to European guidelines for Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE). 2. Do not return the equipment to Let's Connect. Please note that electing not to return the equipment may give rise to a Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax and VAT charge based upon the value of the computer or ipad at that time and you will be advised of the details before you make a decision. Unfortunately, we are not presently able to confirm the rate at which Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax will be charged. HRMC will assign a value to the equipment before the end of 36 month term. We understand that based on current practice the additional tax charge is expected to be between 5% and 10% of the original value (Inc VAT) of the computer or ipad. It is important to advise however that this is only a guide and the actual tax charge could be based on 40% of the original value (Inc. VAT) of the computer or ipad. The end of term value depending on the percentage agreed for any BIK calculation will also attract a VAT charge at the prevailing rate, which is currently 20%. The communication that you get from Let s Connect at the end of the term will confirm the percentage of BIK and VAT that will apply to you. This communication will help you decide what option you choose - to return or not to return the equipment to Let s Connect.
