1 Bonn/Bellevue, March 4, 2002 T-MOBILE INTERNATIONAL REPORTS DETAILED FULL YEAR 2001 AND FOURTH QUARTER 2001 RESULTS OF VOICESTREAM Subscriber base of U.S. operations reaches nearly 7 million 583,000 net contract additions in the fourth quarter accounting for 87% of 667,400 total net additions Adjusted EBITDA loss of $67 million in the fourth quarter and $388 million for 2001 T-Mobile International, the mobile communications subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT), today announced detailed full year 2001 and fourth quarter 2001 results of its U.S. operations, consisting of VoiceStream Wireless and Powertel, Inc.. These companies filed separate 10-Ks with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today. The VoiceStream results reported in this press release include Powertel s results. All figures are in U.S. dollar and U.S. GAAP. In the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2001,VoiceStream added 667,400 net new subscribers to bring its total subscribers to approximately 6,993,000. Contract net additions amounted to 583,000, or 87% of total net additions, compared to 368,000 contract net additions in the third quarter. Contract subscribers represented 74% of the total subscriber base of VoiceStream at the end of 2001 compared to 69% at the end of Contract churn decreased to 3.3% in the fourth quarter from 3.6% in third quarter while blended churn (contract and prepaid) decreased to 4.8% in the fourth quarter from 5.1% in the third quarter.

2 For the full year ended December 31, 2001, VoiceStream added 2,205,800 net new subscribers, including 118,000 from acquisitions, increasing its subscriber base by 46% in Contract net additions amounted to 1,792,900, or 86% of internally generated net additions in VoiceStream had very strong subscriber growth during the fourth quarter, particularly when compared to the slower growth experienced by many of the other U.S. carriers, said Kai-Uwe Ricke, CEO of T-Mobile International and Member of the Board of Management, Deutsche Telekom AG. VoiceStream s GET MORE national rate plans continue to represent the best value in the marketplace and are even more appealing in a tough economy when consumers look more carefully at every dollar they spend. Contract ARPU was $52 in the fourth quarter compared to $54 in the third quarter as a result of large subscriber additions late in the quarter that did not contribute meaningful revenue in the fourth quarter. Blended ARPU, including prepaid and roaming revenues, amounted to $49, consistent with the third quarter. Total revenues were more than $1.1 billion in the fourth quarter. Average usage per contract subscriber per month was 585 minutes for the fourth quarter. Contract ARPU for the full year 2001 was $53 compared to $51 in Blended ARPU, including prepaid and roaming revenues, was $49 in 2001 compared to $50 in Total revenues for the year were $4.0 billion, an increase of 63% from $2.4 billion in Average usage per contract subscriber per month was 565 minutes in 2001 compared to 400 minutes in 2000.

3 VoiceStream reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of $67 million in the fourth quarter. VoiceStream demonstrated a continuous improvement in adjusted EBITDA in each quarter of The cost of acquiring a subscriber, referred to as CPGA in the U.S., was $322 in the fourth quarter and $333 for the full year. The Adjusted EBITDA loss for 2001 was $388 million. Adjusted EBITDA loss does not include employee incentive bonuses of $83 million in connection with the acquisition of VoiceStream and Powertel by Deutsche Telekom. As important as the strong subscriber growth in 2001, was the fiscal discipline that VoiceStream s management and employees applied to the business, as evidenced by the continued improvement in EBITDA loss and the improved cost of subscriber acquisitions in the fourth quarter. VoiceStream did not buy its way to strong subscriber growth but continued to attract new subscribers by offering an outstanding service value. said Mr. Ricke. Capital expenditures amounted to $300 million in the fourth quarter and $1,755 million for VoiceStream s covered POPs increased to 152 million at the end of 2001 with the launch of the New Orleans, Louisiana market in November. VoiceStream saw a steady increase through the quarter of subscribers signing up for its istream GPRS wireless data services after becoming the first U.S. wireless operator to launch high-speed mobile data services across its entire nationwide network. Although istream subscribers were less than 10% of net new subscribers in the fourth quarter, they are expected to become a larger part of net new subscribers during 2002 with the introduction of unique devices, enhanced content and functionality and

4 expanded distribution. New devices are now available with today s introduction of the RIM Blackberry 5810 handheld with integrated phone and a wireless PC Data Card.
