1 1. Purpose To describe the requirements for certification scheme for certified calibration laboratory technician for mechanical calibrations conducted by Resource Inspections Canada Incorporated. This document covers the scope, job and task requirements, competence requirements, pass/ fail criteria, abilities, process for certification and re-certification including suspension & withdrawal of certification. 2. Scope of Certification: Title: CCLTM- Certified Calibration Laboratory Technician Mechanical Mechanical Scheme will include Hydrometers, Volume and Density, Mass Standards, Force Measurements, Vibration Measurements, Acoustic Measurements, Radiation. 3. Job and Task Description: The certification is for professional who are involved in calibration activities related to mechanical measurements. The job and tasks expectations are as below:- To perform on-site and off-site calibrations related to mechanical measurement areas. To estimate uncertainty measurements and preparation of calibration reports. 4. Required Competence: The competence requirements are as below, these requirements will be considered as prerequisites before applying and will be checked during review of application. a) Main Criteria: Qualification High School or Intermediate Experience Min. 3 years of relevant experience OR Technical or Associate Diploma Min 2 year of relevant experience OR Bachelors of Engineering or higher Min 1 year of relevant experience Page 1 of 8

2 b) Knowledge: Knowledge about calibration equipment and its operations especially for mechanical calibrations which may include: Technical knowledge and experience in calibration operations, procedures, uncertainty estimation, proficiency testing, and general metrology. Knowledge of mechanical sciences and different types of instruments such as hydrometers, volumetric instruments, weighing scales, standard weights, torque wrenches, testing machines, sound level meters, vibration meters and density gauges. Basic knowledge of measurement, calibration systems, applied mathematics and statistics. Basic Knowledge of Quality systems and standards. Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as product parts illustrating drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and reference standards. Working knowledge of ISO/IEC c) Skills: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Language skills i.e. Fluency in English Strong mathematical and analytical skills required; Attention to detail; Familiar with industry calibration standards and able to teach others to use equipment properly. Calibration technicians also should have basic computer and electronics skills. d) Experience: Experience in mechanical calibrations of test and measurement equipment used in conjunction with the calibration of electro-magnetic, dimensional and thermodynamics calibrations. Experience of different types of instruments such as hydrometers, volumetric instruments, weighing scales, standard weights, torque wrenches, testing machines, sound level meters, vibration meters and density gauges. The certification manager will review the application against the criteria defined as above. 5. Criteria for initial certification: The candidate will submit an application to RICI along with the supporting records, the application will be reviewed by the Certification manager to ensure it is meeting the requirements to sit in the examination. The result of the review will be recorded including any variation based on experience and educational qualifications. The certification will be granted Page 2 of 8

3 after the applicant has successfully completed the theoretical and practical examination and has paid the fee related to the certification applied for. All candidates who have previously attended training related to the scheme topics from RICI are not eligible to apply for this exam. Applicant must achieve 70 percent of the total obtainable marks in each of the theoretical and practical examinations. The results of the assessment methods will be reviewed and upon confirmation a certificate will be issued along with a card. The validity of these will be for 1 year. 6. Assessment methods for initial certification: The assessment method for initial certification will be a combination of theoretical and practical examination as below: a) Theoretical Examination: Each candidate is required to pass a theoretical examination that will be a two hours and 30 minutes activity covering the exam topics mentioned in this document. Examinations are conducted as per the schedule announced by RICI Office. All examinations are open-book. Each participant must bring his or her own reference materials. b) Practical Examination: Each candidate is required to pass a practical examination that will be a one hour and forty five minutes long in duration. Mechanical practical examinations may include questions related to the calibration of hydrometers, volumetric instruments, weighing scales, standard weights, torque wrenches, testing machines, sound level meters, vibration meters and density gauges or any other relevant artifact. c) Certified Calibration Technician Mechanical Exam Topics The examination will be prepared from topics as below:- I. Criteria for Recertification: Resource Inspections Canada Inc. has established certification period of 1 year for this scheme. After completion of 1 year, candidate is required to submit 20 Hours of CPD which details professional development undertaken or submit work/projects performed during this period. Alternatively, he can submit official experience letter from employer stating the experience gained. Upon successful evaluation of re-certification requirements by RICI and receipt of re- certification fee, the new certificate which will be valid for one-year will be issued valid for another subsequent year. Criteria for Suspending and withdrawing certification: Resource Inspections Canada Inc. has a policy and procedure for suspension, withdrawal or reduction of the scope of certification, and has specified the subsequent actions to be taken. The suspensions may be enforced due to one or more of the following reasons; The certified person has persistently or seriously failed to meet the certification requirements. The certified person has failed to pay the due fees. The certified person has voluntarily requested a suspension In order to comply with regulations, including regulations applicable at National levels. Failure to resolve the issues that have resulted in the suspension in the time established by Resource Inspections Canada Inc. shall result in withdrawal (deregistration) or reduction of the scope of certification. Resource Inspections Canada Inc. have enforceable arrangements with the certified person to ensure that, in the event of suspension of certification, the certified person refrains from further promotion of the certification while it is suspended. The matter is already communicated to the certified person. Resource Inspections Canada Inc. have enforceable arrangements with the certified person concerning conditions of withdrawal ensuring upon notice of withdrawal of certification that the person discontinues its use of all advertising matter that contains reference to a certified status. Based on the Program procedures, accreditation of the certified personal may be reduced, suspended or withdrawn by the organization for a persistent failure of the accredited certified person to abide by relevant standards and company policies and procedures. The certified person may request to reduce or suspend its scope of accreditation or voluntarily withdraw from accreditation. 9. General Requirements: All calibration technicians are required to follow the code of professional and ethical conduct as defined by Resource Inspections Canada Incorporated. In terms of physical abilities the calibration technicians are required to meet the criteria in terms of abilities required to perform the job effectively. The candidates are required to sign a declaration and provide evidence on health status if required. Page 7 of 8
