1 Volume 16 Issue 5 Changes to Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Requirements and Reporting Processes to be Implemented in 2012 On Tuesday, November 15, 2011, the Global Board approved the implementation of several key changes to the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) reporting process. The changes in the program align The IIA with industry best practices and will enhance the reporting experience for certified individuals. Effective January 1, 2012, changes to the reporting period, CPE requirements, and the reporting process will be implemented. The table below summarizes these changes. All candidates will be required to report every year versus every other year. The reporting date is changing from May 31st to December 31st. 40 hours per year if practicing 20 hours per year if non-practicing 0 hours per year if retired 20 hours per year if practicing 10 hours per year if non-practicing 0 hours per year if retired 25% of CPE hours earned must be in the specialty area of expertise. CENTRAL PENN IIA S The Insider Required Attestations at Time of CPE Reporting Submission Failure to Report CPE Reinstatement Policy Performs internal audit services in accordance with the Standards To abide by The IIA Code of Ethics To not bring The IIA into disrepute Confirming no criminal convictions since last reporting period Will result in an individual s certification status being moved to INACTIVE. The designation can no longer be used until the individual s CERTIFIED status in reinstated. If INACTIVE greater than 12 months, to reinstate, candidate will need to report 80 hours of CPE and pay reinstatement fee of USD $100 member or USD $250 nonmember. 6 Certified Internal Auditor (CIA ) CERTIFICATIONS AVAILABLE FROM THE INSTITUTE OF INTERNAL AUDITORS FOR MORE THAN 25 YEARS, the IIA's premier certification, the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, has reflected competence in the principles and practices of internal auditing and has served as the only internationally accepted designation for internal auditors. See for more information. Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) The CFSA designation was launched a few years ago by NAFSA, who offered it as a four-part examination, twice annually. The IIA is modifying the exam slightly by offering it in a one-part format, much like the CCSA and CGAP. The domains to be tested remain the same financial services auditing, banking, insurance, and securities. The CFSA demonstrates competency in financial services auditing practices and methodologies. Individuals earning the CFSA designation are recognized as professionals who have demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of audit and financial services. See for more information. Certification In Control Self-Assessment (CCSA) The certification in Control Self-Assessment is the specialty certification for practitioners of control self-assessment (CSA)--the first specialty certification to be offered by The Institute of Internal Auditors. The new CCSA certification program identifies the skill sets needed by successful practitioners of CSA, measures understanding of CSA, and provides guidance for CSA initiatives. Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) The Institute of Internal Auditors recognizes the important contributions of government auditors and has developed a certification program that distinguishes leaders in public sector auditing - the Certified Government Auditing Professional or CGAP. Auditors from various levels of government who recognize that auditing in the public sector has unique challenges developed the program. Attaining the CGAP designation provides you the ability to differentiate yourself. Since individuals obtaining the CGAP are obliged to complete education, work experience and meet ethical standards, the CGAP credential showcases your commitment to government auditing.
