Lampton School Exam Guide Before you sit your exams Exam timetable Candidate number Check: 1. Personal details (spelling of name, date of birth) are correct. 2. All of the exams are shown, remembering to check for the exam tier i.e. higher or foundation where relevant. Do not write on it as you will need it in your examinations. You will be given a four digit number that will identify you in all of the exams that you take at Lampton School. If you have taken exams at another centre, you will be given a new number for use here. It will be shown on your exam timetable. Centre number Clashes Equipment You will need to record the centre number for Lampton school on all of your exam papers. The number is: If you have two exams scheduled for the same exam session, this is called an exam clash. You will sit one exam followed by the second and this will be shown on your exam timetable. If you have three exams scheduled for the same time or two very long exams you should speak to the exam officer, Ms Lewis, as soon as possible, to confirm the arrangements. You must bring the correct equipment (see next page) to each exam. Pencil cases are not allowed. Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 1
Exam Equipment Checklist All exams: 2 Black pens Pencil Ruler Eraser Pencil sharpener In addition you will need: Mathematics: Protractor Compass Scientific calculator English Literature Clean copy (no writing, underlining or highlighting) copy of text (where allowed) Highlighter Science Scientific calculator Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 2
On the day Exam time Public exams start (writing commences) at 9am or 1.30pm. Your timetable will show the start time of all of your exams. Do not be late. Do not assume that if you have two exam papers for one subject they will both start at the same time. Exam room The exam room will be shown on your exam timetable. Seating plans will be displayed in the window of room 3 you should always check there to see if any late changes have been made. Register / Lunch Entering the room If you are NOT on study leave, in the morning you should register before going to the exam room. For afternoon exams you are allowed to leave your last morning lesson 15 minutes early, to give you time to have lunch and get to your exam. You should arrive at the exam room at 8.45am / 1.15pm. As soon as you enter an exam room, you are in exam conditions, and so should remain in silence until you leave. You should leave your coats and bags outside of the gym or where instructed in other rooms. Mobile Phones Mobile phones or any electronic devices are not permitted in any examination room. Ideally these should not be brought to school. If you do bring them they can be left at reception, but allow plenty of time to do this. You risk disqualification if one is found in the exam room. Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 3
School Uniform You should wear full school uniform to all of your exams. What to have on your desk Equipment (as on the equipment checklist), exam timetable and photographic identification. Ideally this should be your school pass, but an oyster card or driving licence will do. You may also bring a bottle of water in an unlabelled clear plastic bottle. At the end of the exam You should ensure your details (name, candidate number and centre number) are on all of your work. You are not allowed to take any papers out of the examination room. You should remain in silence until you are away from the exam room (other students may be continuing). Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 4
What if I miss an exam? I am late? I am ill? A fire alarm sounds during the exam? I am unwell during the exam? I want to ask a question? Something has happened which affects my performance (e.g. death of a grandparent)? The exam can only be taken at the time shown on your timetable; if you miss it, you will get zero marks for that paper. You should inform the school of the circumstances. You should get to school as quickly as you can, and report to the reception. A decision will then be taken to decide if you can sit the examination. As there is only one opportunity to sit the exam, you should try and attend all of your exams. If you are too ill to attend, you should inform the attendance officer, and provide a medical certificate as soon as possible to the examinations officer. If there is an evacuation, you should put down your pens, leave everything in the exam room, and go with the invigilator to the evacuation point. You must remain in silence throughout the evacuation. Any lost time will be added to the end of the exam. Raise your hand and an invigilator will come to you. If you need to leave the exam room, any time you lose will be added to the end of the exam. Invigilators cannot help you with answering the exam questions. If you have a problem (missing page, wrong paper, require more paper etc.) you should raise your hand and wait for an invigilator to come to you. You should contact the examinations officer as soon as possible. If appropriate, she will be able to make a request to the examination board for special consideration. Examination boards do not accept requests from students or their parents. Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 5
After the exams Results days Provisional exam results will be available for students to collect from school on the morning of: 13 th August 2015 (GCE) 20 th August 2015 (GCSE) Any results not collected will be posted to the student that day. Enquiry about Results Students can request that an exam paper is remarked or request the return of an exam paper. The procedures and prices will be provided with the exam results. Exam certificates Exam certificates are produced after all exam remarks have been completed. These will be available for students to collect in December. Students who have left the school will be able to collect them from the school reception provided they give at least 24 hours notice. Lampton Examination Guide Version 0.1 Page 6
