Background: WGI has worked to have the prior learning completed by participants fully accredited based on academic and certification standards required for individuals to carry the CPC certification. As part of this process, while all new CPC learners are completing a more robust independent certification process in addition to the CPC Certificate of Learning, all grandfathered participants receive full SLA membership benefits. Purpose of the project: Complete the registration process established here to ensure you receive your official SLA Certification with the seal affixed confirming your status as a fully accredited and independently certified CPC in a timely manner. The registration completion is not intended to take long, but does at minimum require you engage at least one of two assessments and provide a reflective statement attesting to what you learned, and if/how these might be valuable to professional coaches. Objectives: Demonstrate your commitment to learning as a professional by surveying two assessments Report your findings in a reflective statement using the template provided (2 pages max). Use the assessments with up to three clients Survey the videos, material, and content to master your understanding of these assessments to determine if they may be valuable tools to you or other professional coaches. Schedule: Hour One: Review content videos and take the assessment & share the assessments with up to three clients (per tool) Hour Two: Survey the CVI Handbook and/or the CDS report Hour Three: Use the template provided to complete your SLA registration and your attached document Note: you are encouraged to have clients use the tool; skim the material (CDS report &/or CVI book) and engage with those clients using one or both tools. You may however do this at any time prior to or after submitting your reflective statement. Ideally, you will engage at least one client after understanding the assessment and applying your learning from the material before you submit your statement so that you can speak to if and how the tool is effective for coaches. You must have submitted your statement before Jan. 1 st Your membership if valid for (Jan 1 st ) unless otherwise indicated. All members holding certifications will need to earn 24 CEUs. If you complete the full deliverables defined in this document by Jan 1 st, 2015, you may submit them for all 24 continued education units. See the checklist under 24 CEU COMBO OPTION. Key Tool(s) : The following are tools that this document provides you access to use. Core Values Index (Assessment) Core Values Handbook & training webinar Improved Employee (Assessment) Improved Employee video Career Development Report You may share the career-development report, reports from Improved Employees, and the full access CVI assessment with clients. You are expected not to share the CVI handbook or any SLA web addresses containing videos without written consent. You are not authorized to charge individuals for their CVI report or the IE reports. You may, however, provide the tools, the CDS report, and otherwise apply the tools in a paid coaching engagement. Each tool or company will provide details on obtaining full access to their assessments if you are interested. There is NO obligation required to use the tools beyond your free-access. Please initial the bottom of the page verifying your attest to these expectations and submit this document with your reflective template (following the check list).
Process Clarification: Why do you submit documents? The SLA promotes application of learning through professional development. To this end, all SLA members are encouraged to learn and apply in any SLA program, opportunity, or experience. To this end, the reflective statement and interaction with a membership benefit (assessment tool) is provided to inspire you toward applied learning in creative manners. We encourage you to take necessary time to immerse yourself in the reading, videos, and details of EACH tool, but you can take any time needed to do that. Completing the SLA membership is your demonstration of understanding and planning how you will continue to learn about the assessments provided and how they may benefit you as a coach. WGI ( ) Participants: You have elected to take advantage of earning 24 CEUs and extending both your CPC and your SLA membership until To complete your participation, you will select the COMBO opportunity. Registration Completion: You may electronically complete this process through the certification membership registration page(s) provided. OR Please read the policies, sign and submit this packet & your reflective vision statement to: CPCRegistration@strategiclearningalliance.org You do not need to repeat the process; either submission method works. Policy Information The CPC Certification is a certification designed to measure a wide range of coaching experience. For the past several years, labor market research has established that coaching is used upwards of 78% of the time in supervisory and management role. Yet, non-certified professionals demonstrate they have less than 25 % to 60% confidence in coaching. Regulations Cheating Any professional caught aiding a coach or providing their exam portfolios, directly or indirectly, to noncertified professionals will be expelled from the SLA and have their certification(s) revoked. Plagiarism SLA members and participants are barred from downloading, copying, distributing, altering, or otherwise reprinting any information provided as part of the certification experience, membership benefits (unless otherwise authorized in writing), or any tools, resources, or documents provided by the SLA to their members. Learners may be allowed to print and use tools provided to them for the purpose of studying. Members ARE allowed to redistribute tools, articles, and content if indicated in writing and in their original version including SLA and peak-publishing authorized use watermarks, trademarks or other seals being left intact. Rights and responsibilities When taking an SLA certification, you may use ALL learning documents provided in your learning experience to maximize your performance on the examination and portfolio experience. You may use research skills to find answers using any process or source you feel meets academic and professional integrity (note: all questions are based upon empirical research; therefore, online
data from Wikipedia, and other sources are built into answers as indications that a participant has not relied on proven information to answer the question. Know your sources before answering). You may NOT call an SME, friend, associate, or co-learner to ask for answers while in a testing experience. You may NOT copy, print, and/or distribute any exam question or preparation question. Audits: all learners who fall within the statistical range of error are automatically audited based on their performance standards in class. You may NOT request a second audit; all failures are notified and explained the reasons for failing to earn certification. You MAY retest within the same exam period for an additional fee (one-time). You MAY retest the following term for an additional fee in the event you do not pass in your schedule exam time-frame. (HRA exam only) You MAY reschedule your exam for a fee of $125 (HRA exam only) Recertification & Professional Requirements a. SLA Certification means that you must engage in recertification. Recertification requires that you complete 24 hours of approved CEU courses within 24 months of the end of the month you were issued your official letter of approval. For CPC enrolled through the Fowler Wainwright programs, your recertification period starts Jan 1 st, 2014 and runs to Jan. 1 st If you earn an additional SLA certification, your recertification time-frame starts from when you earn that certification effectively nullifying your 2016 deadline. b. If you hold more than ONE SLA certification than you are required to earn 36 CEUs every three years. c. If you hold the CPL designation you are required to earn 60 CEUs every three years; with at least 12 being service-outreach oriented. d. Recertification programs approved through PEAK Learning Series at Recertification Options ( ) Recertification is a required process for individuals who hold an independent credential. You can learn more about this process at This policy outlines in general the opportunities that are available for recertification of an SLA certification. Terms: CEU continued education unit SLA Strategic Learning Alliance Pre-Approved Course a course, certificate, event, or activity awarded CEUs by participation Time-Frame the time between earning a certification and recertification. This is typically two years but may increase if you hold multiple SLA certifications and/or the CPL certification. Reflection the self-directed minimum requirement & statement to ensure that any non-sla CEU applied to your specific professional designation. If not, you may be allowed a chance to revise your reflective statement or a process to maintain your SLA certification if the provided CEUs do not hold a direct tie to your professional credential. For example, you may take a CEU program on nutritional health. A CPC who reflects on that learning specific to working as a coach for the purpose of health & well-being coaching would be an acceptable reflection statement. However, a CPN (negotiator) would NOT unless they specifically are in a position of negotiating contracts with health & wellness programs. The simplest test: does this relate 50% of the time to the certification I hold? If not, then it is likely that it will not be approved for recertification.
Pathways the options for obtaining recertification of an SLA certification. Recertification Requirements: A. If you hold one certification you are required to maintain your certification by earning 24 continued education units (CEUs) within your time-range. Your time range is from the date of being notified by or writing that you passed the standards to use a credential (unless otherwise grandfathered in or meeting a standard below). B. If you hold two SLA certifications you are required to maintain 48 CEUs every three years from the point of earning your SECOND SLA certification. C. If you hold the Certified Professional Leader (CPL) designation, you are required to earn 60 CEUs every three years. 15 of these must be service-outreach related (unless a pre-approved SLA program). D. If you earn a designation, for example if you earn the CPC in June, 2014, and then complete CEU program July 2014, you will extend your certification an additional two years. You will not, therefore, lose time-frame of any current certification by earning your CEU s shortly after first certifying. Recertification Pathways: Recertification will include your membership dues for the specified time-frame. However, there are many ways to recertify through the Strategic Learning Alliance. A. SLA Certification a. By earning an additional SLA certification your membership, CEU time-frame increases and membership fee s for the new time-frame are included. b. If you hold a CPC, for example, that expires Jan 1, 2016, but you earn your HRA Dec, You now have a three year membership and three years from Dec 2015 to complete 48 CEUs. Your CPC, therefore, remains current for that new three year time-frame. B. SLA Pre-Approved Course a. Pre-approved courses have been reviewed and approved by the SLA. These vary in time, cost, and scope. Any course is acceptable, even those that do not directly relate to your specific certification. b. You will submit a statement of learning and your membership fee prior to the lapse of your current time-frame. C. SLA Event Participation a. SLA will promote events, many of which are free to attend. You will be provided a confirmation of attendance with the CEU credits. b. Compile these records and submit the required reflective statement and membership fee anytime prior to the end of your certification time-frame. D. Academic Studies a. Attending any ACCREDITED university and receiving a letter of completion, a certificate of completion, or a transcript from the institution will count for continued education. You will complete the reflective statement process and membership fee when you provide documentation of your academic studies. b. 24 ceus = 3 academic credits for graduate work; 5 for under graduate work c. Non-credit hours will require a letter or certificate of completion from the institution. E. Non-SLA CEUs (Professional Association; licensure; or other CEU credits earned)
a. Any professional association directly or indirectly related. b. For example, if you earn CEUs as a requirement for belonging to a financial professional association, and you demonstrate 50% (min.) of your coaching is financial coaching, this would be accepted. Demonstration means web-based, printed, or other visible proof that you engage in the specific role you describe c. You will complete your reflective statement and submit your membership fee. d. Any CEUs that do not indirectly (50% min. relation to your specific credential) will result in an opportunity to edit and revise your reflective statement to show more clear relationship between the CEUs provide; an opportunity to submit other documentation that is more applicable; or may result in completing the full certification experience for your certification. Certification experience will not require you re-attend your class, but will require that all documentation is submitted for the certification. You are not guaranteed to be approved through that process. e. Simple test: does this CEU relate to the professional designation I hold at least 50% of the time I am engaged in that professional role? If not, then select other CEU options. F. Volunteer & Reflection a. Volunteerism is strongly supported. You will reflect on the application of your professional certification and submit your membership fee. b. If you volunteer for the SLA your membership fee may be reduced or removed c. Any volunteer role must be documented by an individual, group, association in support. In other words, to submit a statement about your volunteer work with no way for an SLA representative to contact and confirm the individuals or entities you supported, may result in total termination of your certification. d. SLA will provide a number of volunteer opportunities that are pre-approved pathways to recertification. Recertification Costs: A. Within your 2 year time-frame: min. cost is current SLA membership rate at the time of submitting your CEU B. Outside of the 2 year time-frame: may require full certification examination fee s specific to your designation. See to identify the application only costs. Membership fee s are included with those costs C. SLA Courses: depends on course; membership fee is included D. SLA Certification: depends on certification; membership fee is included E. SLA Pre-approved course: depends on course; membership fee is not included F. Academic studies: depends on college or university attended; membership fee is not included G. Non-SLA CEUs: depends on program you attended; membership fee not included H. Volunteer & Reflection: membership fee not included unless otherwise authorized. Standards: A. The SLA and their affiliates have the sole discretion to modify standards for certification; deliverables; and expected min. steps for recertification based on industry and professional association needs. B. Unless otherwise provided in writing, members will pay the dues set by the SLA board each December. C. Any individual found to violate the certification policies here may have their designation officially revoked.
