I already had some knowledge of half the topics in the book, but by reading the chapters and taking (and retaking) the self assessments until I got a majority correct I gained the understanding needed to pass the exam. Great book on Alcatel-Lucent IPD products By Tech Engineer This book is helping me to understand the application of Alcatel-Lucent IP Products in customer environments. Great reference to get up to speed on IP with a different perspective that 'Cisco' and their interpretation of the IP RFC's. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good enough By Chris Coming from a Cisco CCNA background, I found this book to be adequate for passing the NRS1 exam, and a good introduction to Alcatel's service router command line. However, I found the material to be noticeably inferior in many ways compared to the Cisco Press books by Wiley and also Todd Lammle's CCNA study book. In almost every chapter there were easily noticed contradictions, incorrect IP addresses, charts with incorrect diagrams, and spelling errors. I felt as if the book was rushed to publication and is also a little dated (published in 2009). I would recommend this book to anyone needing an introduction to Alcatel-Lucent's service router line, or anyone who wants to pass Alcatel-Lucent's version of the CCNA which is known as the NRS1. I would not however recommend this book over Cisco's associate level study books to someone looking to break into the Networking field. Cisco provides a much more polished, robust, and thorough product when it comes to their certifications and publications, and I honestly feel that their books made this one look vastly inferior.
