4 PROGRAMME OVERVIEW You should choose a career in Cyber Security if You have an interest in: Outwitting cyber-criminals Solving technology problems Preventing cyber disasters Our Cyber Security Higher Advanced to Technical Modern apprenticeship combines high-quality classroom training with on-the-job experience to develop your real world skills in information security. The programme gives you the qualifications, skills and technical grounding needed to stop cyber-crime, decrypt data and untangle malware. Programme duration month programme (with the opportunity to step off after part 1 and still gain qualifications equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC level) Approximately 8% of training during the programme takes place at a QA learning centre, with the remaining 92% completed in the workplace. in workplace in classroom

6 PROGRAMME INFORMATION What qualifications will I gain? SQA SCQF 6 Diploma in Information Security (equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC level) SQA SCQF 8 Diploma in Information Security (equivalent to second year of degree study) Entry requirements: You are aged You are passionate about a career in IT You have 5 Standard Grades (Level 1-3) or 5 National Level 5 Grades - both including Maths and English You can progress from SCQF 6 to SCQF 8
7 With QA s Cyber Security programme you could go on to become a... Security Engineer Security Operations Analyst Information Security Analyst How is the programme structured? Our programme is made up of two components, ensuring you have a rounded, in-depth understanding of fundamental principles, techniques and technologies. The programme is via a blended assessment model delivered in two components: Classroom sessions delivered in an Ofsted- Outstanding teaching environment at a local QA learning centre. Workplace learning - delivered on-site and assessed by a QA assessor. QA assessors also support you throughout the programme providing you with a single point of contact for any questions or help you need - including help developing your portfolio, adjusting to the world of work, and expert advice around the government s Prevent Agenda and safeguarding.

9 PART 1 CLASSROOM UNITS The first half of our Cyber Security Advanced to Technical Modern Apprenticeship introduces the knowledge and fundamental skills a security team needs. You will complete the following units in the classroom: Testing the Security of Information Systems 1 A unit teaching you the basics of security testing. Carrying Out Information Security Risk Assessment 1 This unit teaches you how to assess information security risk. Investigating Information Security Incidents 1 A unit developing your investigative skills in relation to information security incidents. Carrying Out Information Security Forensic Examinations 1 This unit teaches you the fundamentals of information security forensic examinations. Carrying Out Information Security Audits 1 A unit teaching you the basics of security audits. Principles of Secure System Development 1 A unit introducing the fundamental principles of secure system development. Carrying out Information Security Incident Management Activities 1 This unit teaches you how to manage information security incidents.
10 FLEXIBILITY FOR YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYER You have the option to progress as far as you want on our Advanced to Technical Modern programme however, you and your employer have the option to step off the programme if continuing into the second part is not appropriate. If you do step off, you will receive a SCQF 6 apprenticeship qualification equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC level. All grades and credits remain valid, allowing you to resume training whenever you are ready, and gain further qualifications in the future should you choose to do so. 11 PART 2 WORKPLACE UNITS You are required to complete three mandatory units during part 2 of the Cyber Security Advanced to Technical Modern Apprenticeship. Personal Effectiveness 3 This unit develops the skills you need to perform effectively in a team and drive your skills forward: - Develop own personal and professional skills - Work as a member of a team to achieve defined goals and implement agreed plans - Understand what is meant by professional practice - Improve organisational effectiveness Health and Safety in IT and Telecoms On completion of this unit you will be able to comply with relevant Health and Safety procedures: - Identify relevant organisational Health and Safety procedures - Identify available sources of Health and Safety information - Demonstrate how relevant Health and Safety procedures have been followed Principles of Information Governance and Assurance 2 This unit develops your understanding of information governance and assurance at a higher level: - Understand the purpose of information governance - Understand information security threats and vulnerabilities - Understand information security techniques and technologies - Understand information security risk assessment and management

13 SUPPORT FROM DAY ONE A dedicated resourcer will be your point of contact when you first apply. They will give you all the information you need to know and will spend time getting to know you and your interests to make sure they match you up with the right role. Once you have started your apprenticeship, a QA Assessor will visit you every 6-8 weeks to guide you through your apprenticeship plan, help you with your workplace units, teach you about the workplace environment and provide feedback for each unit. They will also be there as your point of contact for any questions or help you need such as adjusting to the world of work, or help balancing your studies with work activity. You will also meet a number of QA Tutors who are knowledge experts in their subject areas and will be delivering the theoretical side of your apprenticeship programme in our QA training centres. They are on-hand to prepare you for assessments, and provide you with feedback supporting you for the end point assessment of your apprenticeship which will be a project and an interview. Additional support from QA We also have a dedicated Learner Services team on hand to support you with: Managing your finances Updating your CV Applying for council housing, rents and mortgages Dealing with relationship problems
