1 PROGRAMME REGULATIONS Programme Schedule Diploma in Information Technology Support To be read in conjunction with the Diploma Generic Regulations. 1. Programme Schedule This schedule applies to the Diploma in Information Technology Support (DipITS) (Level 6, 240 credits), including the exit qualification Certificate in Information Technology (Level 4, 60 credits). 2. Programme Specific Admission 2.1 Specific Admission To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the requirements set out in the Diploma Generic Regulations. There are no additional programme-specific admission requirements. 3. Selection Criteria Entry to the programme is limited by the number of places available. a. When the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, priority for selection will be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria (priority increasing with the number of criteria met): They exceed the minimum admission requirements; They have had industry experience using computers; They demonstrate knowledge of and motivation towards computing; They have applied for a full time year. b. Applicants who meet the maximum number of criteria will be the preferred candidates. 4. Selection Process Applicants may be required to attend an interview. Notes: 1 These courses comprise the Certificate in Information Technology. Students who complete these Exit Awards four compulsory courses are eligible to graduate with a Certificate in Information Technology. These courses are from the Bachelor of Computing Systems. Certificate in Information Technology Students who elect to discontinue study before completing the Diploma in Information Technology Support may apply for and be awarded the Certificate in Information Technology provided they complete 60 credits comprised of ISCG4500, ISCG4501, ISCG4502 and ISCG Assessment of Prior Learning Assessment of Prior Learning will be available for all courses in the diploma. 7. Assessment 7.1 Assessment basis a. Assessment for all courses is achievement based using an 11 point grading scale. b. Where a course contains a final examination, as part of its assessment a student must obtain a mark of a least 40% in that final examination in order to achieve a passing grade for that course. 7.2 Calculation of course grades Diploma in Information Technology Support Page 3
4 a. All student work will be graded using grade related criteria. b. The final course grade will be determined by the mathematical aggregation of weighted grades achieved in summative assessments and reported according to the following scale: Table 3: Course Grades Grade Percentage Result A Pass A Pass A Pass B Pass B Pass B Pass C Pass C Pass C Pass D Fail E 0-39 Fail c. Students may be awarded one of the following grades for a course if they meet the criteria described. Table 4: Grade Criteria Grade Meaning Criteria CR Credit The student has applied for and been awarded a credit Recognition recognition from another qualification DEF Deferred The course result has been deferred W Withdrawn If a student withdraws from a course after the 10% date of the course is completed and up to or at the 75% date of the course. No credits earned. 7.3 Conditions applying to restricted passes Restricted passes are not available for courses in this programme. 7.4 Late Submission Assignments submitted up to 72 hours late without Special Assessment Circumstances (SAC) approval, would be marked, subject to penalties, as follows: 10% of the marks deducted if submitted within 24 hours of the deadline 20% of the marks deducted if submitted after 24 hours and up to 48 hours of the deadline 30% of the marks deducted if submitted after 48 hours and up to 72 hours of the deadline. 8. General Provisions 8.1 Course Load Students are allowed to enrol in a maximum of 60 credits per semester. Only students with B average or above can enrol in a maximum 75 credits per semester, on permission from the Academic Leader. 8.2 Exclusion from the Programme Diploma in Information Technology Support Page 4
5 Any student who, over the period covered by the last four semesters of his or her studies at Unitec, including relevant study at other institutions, has not achieved a Pass Grade in courses equivalent to one half or more of the credits in which he or she has been enrolled over that period, shall be excluded from enrolment in assessed courses in any Programme, and shall not be permitted to re-enrol in any programme without the prior permission of the relevant Programme Committee, in accordance with the Academic Management Policy. 9.
