3 MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MC-UMES AGREEMENT MC STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL COMPETITIONS The articulation agreement between Montgomery College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore/ Shady Grove, Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, has been revised. Please review the required courses on page 7, Transfer Option. Courses are offered during the evenings at Montgomery College and The University of Maryland at Shady Grove. For more information contact the program director at Management of Construction students participate every year in national construction management competitions. Residential and commercial competitions offer our students the opportunity to enhance their academic skills as they face the typical construction management challenges presented by real projects. STUDENT CONSTRUCTORS ASSOCIATION The Student Constructors Association (SCA) invites all students to join their organization. Applications are available from club officers, faculty advisor or in room TC 235. The SCA participates and sponsors educational seminars, site visits and community service projects. Membership in the group provides the option to join several national organizations such as Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors of America and The National Association of Home Builders. 5 MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATE DEGREE OPTION This associate in applied science (AAS) degree curriculum option is designed to prepare graduates to organize, operate, manage, and control the unique systems, procedures, and services in the construction industry, both on the job site and in the contractor s office. Areas of study include cost control, planning, scheduling, controlling and expediting construction, contract bidding and estimating, personnel management, and overall management of construction operations. CMGT110 Construction Plan Reading Introductory course in construction documents with emphasis on interpretation of the requirements of residential and commercial drawings. CMGT135 Construction Field Operations An introduction to construction field management, as related directly to the job of the field superintendent. CMGT190 Computer Applications in Construction An introduction to the use of computers in construction administration, project management, estimating, scheduling and cost control. Prerequisite: CA120 CMGT210 Construction Management A comprehensive overview of all phases of construction project management. Prerequisite: CMGT135 or consent of department. CMGT250 Construction Surveying A basic surveying course to acquaint the student with the fundamental calculations, terminology, field and office procedures used in surveying. Prerequisites: CMGT100, CMGT135 and MATH105 or consent of department. CMGT270 Construction Estimating Introduction to the basic methods of construction estimating and overall construction estimates. Prerequisites: CMGT100 and CMGT110 and MATH094 or consent of department CMGT275 Construction Planning and Scheduling A comprehensive overview and analysis of the requirements for the preparation and use of planning and scheduling techniques. Prerequisites: CMGT 100 and CMGT210 or consent of department CMGT280 Mechanical and Electrical Systems The study of the materials and equipment used in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, electrical power systems, lighting systems, water supply, and sewage disposal systems in buildings. Prerequisite: MATH099 CMGT285 Practical Construction Law A review of the major legal issues affecting the construction process. Prerequisite: CMGT 210 or consent of department. CMGT272 Construction Estimating with Computers Advanced concepts of Computer Estimating using computer estimating 1 semester hour CMGT273 Preconstruction Estimating Manual and computer procedures to develop Preconstruction/Budget estimates 1 semester hour CMGT290 Professional Practicum Work experience and field study on an actual project related to the student s curriculum.
