17 Optional Apprenticeship Opportunities for CTP Completers Apprenticeships give students an opportunity to get a head start on a future career. Apprenticeships are registered with the NC Department of Labor with specific competencies which lead to a Journeyman s Certification. To Qualify College Tech Prep Completers must: Be at least 17 years old and juniors or seniors completing in a high school College Tech Prep course of study. Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 with a C or better in Algebra I and a B or better in the CTE courses related to the apprenticeship. Maintain good attendance Be planning to pursue further education and a career in the area of the apprenticeship and be willing to make a firm commitment to the apprenticeship employer. Be available to work 10 to 20 hours per week during the school year if receiving high school credit for the apprenticeship and may work full time during the summer months.

19 Students Completing a College Tech Prep Course of Study Have the Opportunity To: Prepare for two and four-year college degree programs in technical fields Earn nationally recognized certifications Earn college credit towards an A.A.S. degree program Qualify for a two year CTP scholarship from GTCC

20 College Tech Prep Completers Have Multiple Post-Secondary Options Multiple Options for College Tech Prep Completers College Tech Prep Course of Study English 4 credits I, II, III, IV Science 3 credits Biology Physical Science and Earth/Environmental Science Math 4 credits Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II, and an additional Math aligned with the student s high school plan. Students planning to apply to a UNC System school should select a fourth math credit that meets their admission requirements and a minimum of two credits in the same second language Social Studies 3 credits Civics, World History, US History PE/Health 1 credit Adult Apprenticeship Bachelor s Degree in a Technical Field Associate s Degree Certificate or Diploma from a Community College Career in a Technical Field Related to the College Tech Prep Course of Study Architect Engineer Project Estimator Project Manager CAD Operator Network Administrator Registered Nurse Teacher Career/Technical 4 credits from within a career cluster with at least one second level advanced course. Technician

22 CTP Completers can earn college credit for Career and Technical Education courses taken in high school through local and statewide articulation agreements.

23 CTP Completers can qualify for the GTCC College Tech Prep Scholarship Requirements Complete a CTP Course of Study and earn a C or better in all courses in the pathway Earn an overall high school GPA of 2.0 or higher Apply to GTCC and for the CTP scholarship complying with all application deadlines Complete Financial Aid forms Attend the mandatory GTCC scholarship orientation session Achieve an acceptable score on the Compass test

24 Future Ready Core and College Tech Prep Course Requirements The requirements of English, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Health and Physical Education are the same for both Future Ready Core and College Tech Prep. 4 English Credits English I, II, III, IV 3 Social Studies Credits World History, Civics and Economics, and US History 3 Science Credits Biology, Earth/Environmental Science and a Physical Science 4 Math Credits Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and an additional math aligned with the students high school plan that is suitable for entrance to community colleges or universities. Students who plan to attend one of the schools in the UNC System must choose the additional math course from Advanced Functions and Modeling, Pre-Calculus, discrete Mathematics, IB Mathematics Level II, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. 1 Health and Physical Education Credit

25 To meet the elective credit requirements for Future Ready Core and College Tech Prep, students must select four credits from a Career and Technical Education Career Cluster that is aligned with their future education and career goal. 4 Career & Technical Education Credits Four credits must be selected from the same Career and Technical Education Career Cluster. Three of these credits must be from Foundational courses within the Career Cluster. The fourth credit can be from either a Foundational or an Enhancement course within the Career Cluster. At least one of the Foundational credits must be a second level completer course. Electives 2 electives credits of any combination from either: CTE, World Languages, or Arts Education. Two credits from the same second language is required for those planning to attend a UNC System University. Additional electives will need to be selected to meet the graduation requirements of 22 credits in schools on a 6 period per day schedule and 28 credits for students in schools on the block schedule.
