MIT Graduate Capabilities The MIT Graduate Capabilities (GC) are as follows. The level to which each is achieved is indicated in brackets. Zero indicates that the GC is not targeted in this course. a) Motivation (2) b) Ethical Behaviour (2) c) Critical thinking (3) d) Problem solving (2) e) Reading Literacy (2)

2 f) Information Literacy (3) g) Professional Conduct (3) h) Team Work (2) i) Arohā (0) j) Adaptability (0) k) Entrepreneurship (2) l) Interpersonal capability (2) Learning Outcomes Outline of Content Learning and Teaching Methods Assessment Valid/Reliable Resources Required Text, Web links, Equipment, Computer Labs etc as applicable LO1 Describe the impact of applications including VoIP on an enterprise network. LO2 Describe, configure and verify PPP on a WAN link. LO3 Describe, configure and verify Frame Relay on a WAN link. LO4 Verify, monitor and troubleshoot ACLs and Different methods for connecting to a WAN, impact of Voice over IP and Video over IP applications on a network. PPP concepts, verifying PPP operation. Basic and advanced Frame Relay concepts, Frame Relay configuration on a WAN link, verifying Frame Interactive teaching will be the primary learning method, which will enable one-on-one contact, group work and greater group interaction and cohesion. [LO1-6] Group computer simulation eg Cisco Packet Tracer will form the context for practical application of the material taught. This will be used for example based learning, problem based learning, practical design and testing.[lo2-6] Group work will enable Formative assessments: Feedback is continuous throughout the course with on-line interactive test questions on the LMS, group activities and lab progress feedback. This facilitates the opportunity for question and answer dialogue (both staffstudent and student-student). It also provides constructive feedback on an ongoing basis. The network engineering courses provide opportunity for ongoing formative assessment of student progress for the theory and Networking devices. Computer laboratory. Computer software. Data projector. Worksheets. Internet. There are no prescribed texts for this course, but a laboratory manual will be provided to students. Recommended Textbook: Accessing the WAN, CCNA Exploration Companion Guide.

3 network security in a network environment. LO5 Describe, implement and troubleshoot NAT and DHCP. LO6 Troubleshoot common network problems in WAN implementation in an enterprise network. Relay operation and troubling. Network security and common security threats and how to secure Cisco routers, router network services and router management using Cisco SDM. Basic and advanced ACLs and firewalls and how to use ACLs to secure networks, ACL troubleshooting common ACL errors. Business requirements for Teleworker services and introduction of Broadband and VPN technologies. Introduction of DHCP, scaling networks with students to engage in class activities encouraging optimal use of the individual s preferred learning style while developing the students ability to work together as a team. [LO2-6] The LMS functions as the home page of the course. It is used as a source of information and news, for revision, for both formative and summative exercises, and other on-line activities. A wide range of resource material is uploaded for use by the students. The LMS is used as an assessment tool and to promote and reinforce learning. Usage of LMS and the Internet will also develop students knowledge of and competency in computer technology. [LO1-6] practical skills. For example end of chapter quizzes, simulator activities, etc.. [LO1-6] Online Module Tests to continually test and monitor material taught in class. [LO1-6] Simulation Tests to assess all the work learned from the laboratory manual, and put it together in a real-world scenario under low pressure conditions. [LO2-6] Summative assessments: Final Skills-based Exam to assess all the work learned from the laboratory manual, and put it together in a realworld scenario under high pressure conditions. [LO2-6] 40% Final Online Exam to test overall knowledge of the course. [LO1-6] 20%

4 NAT and IPv6, troubleshooting of DHCP and NAT. Common WAN implementation issues and networking troubleshooting methodologies and tools. Written Exam to test overall knowledge of the course using detailed explanations. [LO1-6] 40% The assessment weightings and types are set in the NZDE national documentation. Students must achieve a minimum of 50% overall to pass the course. IPENZ GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES IPENZ BENGTECH GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES OUTCOME 1.
