1 HP ProCurve Access Point 530 VIEW Pre-Certified Configuration and Deployment Guide SpectraLink s Voice Interoperability for Enterprise Wireless (VIEW) Certification Program is designed to ensure interoperability and high performance between NetLink Wireless Telephones and WLAN infrastructure products. The products listed below have been thoroughly tested in HP s lab using the VIEW Pre- Certification Test Plan. This document details how to configure the ProCurve Access Point 530 with NetLink Wireless Telephones. With heavy push-to-talk (PTT) traffic from the NetLink Wireless Telephones, call capacity and call quality will be significantly diminished. 2. Disable WMM. Default setting is enabled. 3. Disable Auto Channel selection. Default setting is Auto Channel select is enabled. Set the channel to static. 4. Make sure that AP detection feature is disabled for the radio. 5. 2 Network Topology The following topology was tested during VIEW Pre-Certification testing. Recommended Configuration Settings for ProCurve 530 Operate radio in b-only mode. Suggested data rate settings are: Basic Data rate: 11 Supported Data rate: 2, 5.5 and 11 Maintain the following factory default settings: Default Beacon Interval: 100 Default Fragmentation Threshold: 2346 Default RTS Threshold: 2347 Set the DTIM to 2 PN: A.doc Page 2

4 Radio Mode and Channel 1. Click Radio under Network Setup, choose appropriate radio index (1/2). 2. Set Mode to IEEE b. 3. Set the Channel to a static channel. 4. Set the Maximum Stations allowed on the radio to appropriate value. 5. Click the Update button. PN: A.doc Page 4

5 Data Rates 1. Click Advanced Settings of previous window, it opens up a new window as shown below. 2. Uncheck the Basic rates 1, 2 and Uncheck the Supported rate 1. (see the screen below for correct settings). 4. Click the Update button. PN: A.doc Page 5

6 Number of SSID Click WLANs under Network Setup and make sure that the number of SSID on the radio is 1 as shown below. No AP Detection Click AP Detection under Special Feature and make sure that the AP detection for the radio is Disable as shown below. PN: A.doc Page 6

7 No WDS Click WDS under Special Feature and make sure that no WDS link configured for the radio as shown below. Broadcast/Multicast Rate Limit Even though AP properly prioritizes data traffic from SVP voice traffic, SpectraLink recommends that Broadcast/Multicast traffic be restricted. The way to arrive at the Broadcast/Multicast traffic limit is explained in the next paragraph. As per SpectraLink Radio Protocol (SRP), the AP sends a packet and receives a packet every 20ms when a NetLink Wireless Telephone is in an active call being served by the SVP Server. One packet s send and receive typically takes around 1.2ms at the wireless data rate of 11 Mbps. Assuming 10 active calls, it will take 12ms out of 20ms for communication between the AP and the Wireless Telephones. Assuming some retries, 12ms should be rounded to 15ms, which leaves only 5ms for other types of traffic. If there is also broadcast or multicast traffic, assuming 1000 bytes frames, SpectraLink recommends that broadcast/multicast traffic be restricted to 250 frames per second (assuming that 250ms per second remains for other than SVP traffic). Click Advanced Settings of the Radio window. In the new window, check Broadcast/Multicast Rate Limiting and set the appropriate values for Rate Limit and Rate Limit Burst. PN: A.doc Page 7
