10 Requirements for Voice Call Handoffs Strive for seamless handoff without service interruption At a minimum, no call drops Ideally, interruption under 100 ms Permit no changes to the existing CDMA2000 1X infrastructure Support single-number call delivery to handset via CDMA & WLAN Off-load voice traffic from CDMA2000 1X circuit network to VoIP packet network 10

11 Alternative Handoff Solutions 1. Inter-MSC like handoff 2. Inter-BSC like handoff 3. Using HO number - Bridged call handoff 11

14 Summary We have discussed the key architecture elements to enable WLAN/CDMA services: PDIF Access Control Mobility management WLAN to CDMA2000 1X handoff is an important element to enable the WLAN/CDMA services for the near term Longer-term focus should be on solutions for seamless WLAN VoIP to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO VoIP handoff. Bridged call solution provides sufficient simplicity and performance 14
