HP integrated Citrix XenServer Product overview Citrix XenServer is a high-performance virtualization solution designed for efficient support of Windows and Linux virtual machines. HP has integrated Citrix XenServer into ProLiant platforms to enable fast installation, configuration, and virtual machine management. The product set features HP ProLiant Virtual Console (PVC), which provides a simple-to-use interface to set up and manage virtual machines on individual servers using the local KVM. The addition of HP ilo 2 Advanced Pack (sold separately) enhances the management of virtual machines on ProLiant servers by providing graphical remote access to HP ProLiant Virtual Console. HP Select Edition offers a low cost, all-in-one solution with integrated Citrix XenServer, HP ProLiant Virtual Console for single server management, and XenCenter for virtual machine management across multiple servers. Select Edition enables creation of an unlimited number of virtual machines for each server, with up to 32 GB memory for each virtual machine. HP Enterprise Edition enables resource pooling and live migration. It includes HP ProLiant Virtual Console for single server management and XenCenter for virtual machine management across multiple servers. HP integrated Citrix XenServer 4

HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard overview The HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard provides you with step-by-step, on-screen guidance for performing the initial configuration of HP integrated Citrix XenServer. The wizard helps you configure the following HP integrated Citrix XenServer settings: Administrator password Screen resolution Date and time Server hostname and management interface HP Systems Insight Manager Agents and HP System Management Homepage Setup Storage Repository Administrator password The administrator password is the password used to log in to Citrix XenServer. You must enter the password twice. If the two passwords do not match, the wizard prompts you to enter them again. HP recommends the password include: At least eight characters Both upper-case and lower-case letters One or more numerical digits One or more special characters, for #, and $ You can use a password that does not meet these guidelines; however, if you do, a warning message appears prompting you to confirm that you want to use the password. Setting screen resolution The screen resolution setting affects the resolution for the local monitor and for remote access using ilo. Select from one of the supported screen resolutions, or if you want to select leave the current resolution of [current resolution] unchanged. The new resolution does not take effect until you complete the wizard. Setting the date and time The time zone, date, and time are set from this screen. leave the resolution unchanged, HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard 5

To set the time zone, select the nearest city in your time zone. Citrix XenServer requires that the hardware clock of the server be set to the current time in UTC. The wizard handles the conversion from local time to UTC, so enter the date and time entered on this screen in local time. Setting server hostname and management interface The hostname is the name by which this server is known on the network. 1. In the hostname field, enter a fully qualified DNS hostname, for example somehost.example.com. 2. Select one of the physical network interfaces on the server as the management interface. External management tools use this interface to access and configure this server. To prevent remote management of the server (for example for security reasons), select None. If you select None, you cannot use the HP Insight Management Agents to manage this server. You can configure the management interface to use static IP settings or DHCP. To add this server to a Citrix XenServer Resource Pool, you must use static IP settings. For more information, see Resource Pools (on page 8). HP Insight Management Agents/HP System Management Homepage The HP Insight Management Agents provide system status information that you can monitor using HP manageability tools such as HP SIM. The agents monitor various aspects of system health and inventory. These agents are based on the SNMP. The HP System Management Homepage provides an interface between the HP Insight Management Agents and the HP manageability tools, organizing information from HP Insight Management Agents to appear on a web page. If you selected None on the Server Hostname/Management Management Agents/HP System Management Homepage. Interface page, you cannot use HP Insight You cannot enable the HP System Management Homepage unless you enable the HP Insight Management Agents. If you enable the HP Insight Management Agents, default SNMP settings are provided. To review or change the default SNMP settings, click Advanced. Enabling the HP Systems Insight Manager Agents and the HP System Management Homepage requires the wizard to make the following changes to the default firewall configuration. Enabling only the agents: UDP port 161 (the standard SNMP port) is opened for input. UDP port 162 (the standard SNMP trap port) is opened for output. Enabling only System Management Homepage: TCP port 280 (the standard HTTP management port) is opened for output. TCP port 2301 (the HP System Management HTTP port) is opened for input. HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard 6

TCP port 2381 (the HP System Management HTTPS port) is opened for input. Advanced SNMP settings for HP Insight Management Agents To configure SNMP settings by using the wizard or from the HP ProLiant Virtual Console, select Tools>Configure Insight Management Agents, and then click Advanced. Remote SNMP Management Use the remote management station to manage the server with HP manageability tools such as HP SIM. The information that you provide enables you to secure SNMP data so that only the remote management station that you specify can access the data. To prevent remote SNMP management, clear the Enable Remote SNMP Management box. To enable remote SNMP management: 1. Select the Enable Remote SNMP Management box. 2. Select to allow read-and-write access to your SNMP data from any remote station or from only one remote station. If you allow access from only one remote station, enter the IP address or DNS address of that remote management station. The Insight Management Agents process only SNMP read-and-write requests from this address. 3. Enter the SNMP community string for the remote management stations. The community string that you enter in the Station Community String field must match the community string supplied by a remote management station when it accesses the SNMP data on this server. The community string is like a password for the SNMP data on this server. So, keep this string confidential. The read-only access fields function like the read-and-write access fields. SNMP Trap settings SNMP traps are messages sent by the SNMP agents to a remote management station (known as a trap destination) to report an alert or other event that has occurred. To prevent SNMP traps, clear the Enable SNMP Traps box. To enable SNMP traps: 1. Select the Enable SNMP Traps box. 2. Enter the IP address or DNS address of the trap destination where you want the SNMP agents to send SNMP traps. Although they are usually the same, the trap destination does not have to be the same as the address that you entered in the Remote SNMP Management Station section. 3. Enter a community string for the SNMP traps. This string is inserted into traps sent from this server to the trap destination. If the community string in the trap does not match the community string on the trap destination, the trap is rejected. Keep this string confidential. Local Server settings 1. Enter contact information for the person responsible for this server. For example, contact name and phone number. If you do not want to provide contact information, leave the Contact For This Server field blank. 2. Enter the location of this server such as the building and room number. If you do not want to provide server location, leave the Server Location field blank. 3. Click OK. HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard 7

Setup Storage Repository Local disks storage repositories are needed before you can create virtual machines. Local disks are claimed in the wizard or from clicking New Storage from the PVC. This page displays all disks identified by the wizard. The wizard selects disks that do not have a partition. Disks that have existing partitions can be claimed but are not automatically selected by the wizard. You can select any disk for local storage repository including disks with existing partitions. All existing data is lost if a disk is selected for claiming. Finish and exit You have completed all tasks required for the initial setup of your server. To save all of your settings and exit the wizard, click Finish. The HP ProLiant Virtual Console configuration utility appears. Resource Pools Citrix XenServer supports an advanced feature called Resource Pools. Resource Pools enable you to pool Citrix XenServer servers together to share storage devices, enabling live relocation of virtual machines between XenServer servers. HP ProLiant servers running Citrix XenServer HP Enterprise Edition can participate in Resource Pools. HP ProLiant servers running Citrix XenServer HP Select Edition cannot. However, because this is a multiserver environment feature, use Citrix XenCenter to manage Resource Pools. For more information about Resource Pools, see the Citrix XenServer documentation from Citrix. In a multiserver environment, use HP Virtual Machine Management Pack to manage and control Citrix virtual machines with physical host to virtual machine association, easy identification of virtual machines or host servers reaching high CPU memory utilization levels, and highly flexible move capabilities that enable live moves and moves to different host resources, back-up, and template operations. For more information see the ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pack website ( HP ProLiant Virtual Console setup wizard 8
