6 * If telnet is unable to connect to the router the router may not have been reset properly by the previous user and you will have to connect directly to the router using a console cable. 7 Office A (Diagram on page 18) Office A is a wired computer network office. It is using a gigabit Ethernet switch for connectivity between the computers in the office. The office is connected to the other offices by a router that is directly connected to the switch. This router is connected to the core router, which is connected to the other offices. The following are the basic setup configurations and commands used to set up and run this office. At the computer (needs active internet connection to access switch): Open up a web browser and type in the address bar to access switch Username is GigEwire, password is convergige Go to the CMS (You may have to download the software. Ask instructor for password.) Click VLAN > VLAN> Configure VLANs> Create o VLAN ID 2 o VLAN name case study1 o VLAN status Active Click Administration> IP addresses> VLAN 2 o IP Address o Subnet Mask o Set default switch gateway to (ASK IF ITS OK BEFORE YOU DO THIS) Click VLAN> VLAN> Configure Ports> Click on each port for the VLAN 2 (At least 3 ports required to be in the vlan.) o administrative mode: static access o static-access VLAN 2 At the computer: Right click Network Connections Right click on desired NIC o Click Enable Right click on adapter once more o Right click the Local Area Connection o Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) o IP Address (unused address o Subnet Mask o Default Gateway o Click OK o Click OK Try to ping another computer in the VLAN to ensure connectivity Authors: Mary Hawkins & Patrick Neff Page 7 of 21

8 Office B (Diagram on page 19) Office B uses a wireless network for its connectivity. It uses g and WEP for security. All devices in this office are wireless, including laptops, desktops, and PDAs. The office is connected to the others by being directly connected to the core router. The following is the basic setup and configurations for this office. Netgear Router Plug wireless router directly into the computer through one of the routers LAN ports. Connect wireless router to the internet through the routers WAN port. Plug in the power to the router. Open Internet Explorer and type into the address bar. Click OK > click OK> router will now update its settings. Scroll down and click link to go to basic router setup. 10 Office C (Diagram on page 20) VOIP/POTS Setup Office C will have VoIP for its phone service. VoIP phones and analog phones will be used in the office. All VoIP phones will have their phone numbers and IP addresses given to them by the router, which will be running Cisco CallManager Express. Analog phones will have their phone numbers manually configured in the router. The IP network of the DHCP pool for voice devices is e. The subnet mask for the DHCP network is f. The TFTP server IP address will be the Cisco CallManager Express router with an IP address of Option 150 is an optional DHCP option which allows the IP telephony device to obtain configuration information (files) from the TFTP server. g. Accept the default port of 2000 by pressing the Enter key. k. When asked how many phones to configure, respond with 4. l. When asked whether dual-lines are desired, answer y, and press Enter. m. Select the language that is desired on the phone. (The default of English may be accepted by simply pressing the Enter key.) n. Select the country for call progress tones. (If in the United States, the default may be used by just pressing the Enter key.) o. Enter first extension number, which is p. When asked if DID (Direct-Inward-Dialing) is used, answer y, and press Enter. DID is a local phone company service that provides a block of phone numbers used to call into a company's PBX system. With DID, individual phone numbers can be assigned to each person or PC without having to have a physical line into the PBX for each person s connection. q. When asked for the full E.164 number, enter A fully qualified E.164 number contains a country code (issued by the ITU), area code (sometimes known as a STD code), and the local telephone number. r. When asked if forwarding to voic (voice message service) is desired, enter y, and press Enter. s. Enter the extension number for voic . t. 12 u. When asked if any of the information is to be changed, select yes to change an option, or no to use the current settings and to exit out of the utility. If no mistakes were made in the previous steps enter n, press Enter, and proceed to the Step1 v. If any mistakes were made enter y, press Enter, and go back to Step 1c. v. Watch the console output to see if the phones register. Setup of DHCP to automatically give IP addresses to the phones: Router6 (config)# ip dhcp pool DATA Router6 (dhcp-config)# network Router6 (dhcp-config)# default-router Router6(config)# ip dhcp excluded-address Setup of the analog phones: Find out the analog port numbers with the following command. Router6#show voice port summary Router6 (config)# dial-peer voice 1 pots (Change number to 2 for the second phone.) Router6 (config-dial-peer)# destination-pattern ( for 2nd phone) CMERouterX(config-dial-peer)# port X/X/X (Use port numbers discovered with the voice port summary command.) 13 Cisco Wireless AP Setup Office C will use a wired and wireless network. The wireless network will use the Cisco Aironet AP1230A access point for connectivity. The default username and password for the access point are Cisco and Cisco. To access the access point you will need to change the IP address of the computer. Right click My Network Places o Right click the Local Area Connection o Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) o Click Use the following IP address and enter /24 The default IP address of the access point is /24. To access the access point, open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type , then press Enter. Login to the AP with Username: Cisco Password: Cisco Click express setup o System Name - OfficeC o IP Address o Subnet Mask o Default Gateway o B radio SSID - OfficeC o A radio SSID OfficeCa o Click Apply Now connect the AP in to one of the switch ports on router6 that was not used in the VOIP configuration. Right click Network Connections Right click on desired wireless NIC o Click Enable Right click adapter again o Click View Available Wireless Networks o Click OFFICEC o Click OK Right click on adapter once more o Right click the Local Area Connection o Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) o IP Address o Subnet Mask o Default Gateway o Click OK o Click OK Try to ping other devices in other offices to ensure connectivity. 14 Wired Configuration Plug a computer into the final unused switch port of Router6 for wired connectivity. 15 SOHO (Diagram on page 21) The Small Office/Home Office will have Wired/Wireless network connections including: A video server, POTS phone connecting to OfficeC, wired desktop with a softphone connecting to OfficeC and a wireless desktop. Netgear Router Plug in the router Plug a computer into one of the LAN ports on the router. On Computer o Click Start o Click Run o Type cmd o Type ipconfig o Write down your default gateway address Open a web browser and point it to you default gateway o Username: o Password: admin Main setup page o Internet setup Internet connection type - static ip IP Address Subnet Mask Default gateway o Network setup IP address Subnet Mask o Leave rest as default Wireless tab o a Setup SSID: SOHOa o g Setup SSID: SOHO Computer (Desktop or Laptop) Setup Connect PC to one of the routers LAN ports. 16 Right click on desired wireless NIC o Click Enable Right click adapter again o Click View Available Wireless Networks o Click SOHO o Click OK Cisco Softphone Setup Install Cisco IP Communicator (Ask instructor for sofware) Launch Cisco IP Communicator (Make sure firewall is off) Right click on application area Click on preferences Click on the Network tab TFTP Servers Click Use these TFTP servers: TFTP Server Click OK Phone should now initialize. Video Server Setup Plug video server into linksys router. Check DHCP log on router to get servers IP address. In a web browser go to server-ip-address :8129 Click Watch Select a demo video and watch it. Port forwarding is required on the router to view video from outside the SOHO office.
