3 Chapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Description E1/10&100BASE-T Bridge (VLAN) is a high performance, self-learning long-distance Ethernet bridge. It provides 2M data transmission channels for network by E1 lines, connects two LANs to become a LAN through PDH devices etc. It is suitable for many situations, such as extendibility of LAN insulation of networks connection LAN to WAN, it can connect Ethernet to telecom transmitting network, special network or WAN. 1.2 Characteristic Support VLAN frame and 1536 bytes overlong frame The Ethernet interface supports auto-negotiation full/half duplex, 10/100M The highest filtering rate is 30,000bps, 256 frames buffer capability, 1 frame transferring delay Ethernet interface can store 10K MAC address, it auto-refreshes LAN Address Table, and filters data package according to Address Table Support automatic obtainment of IP address, realize broadcasting and group-broadcasting (this function can be closed) LED indicators show working status 1.3 Technical parameters E1 interface Data rate: 2.048Mbps Line code: HDB3 Tolerance: ±50ppm interface impedance: 75Ω unbalanced /120Ω balanced Electric characteristic: comply with ITU-T G.703 standard Ethernet Data rate: 10/100Mbps interface Standard: comply with IEEE Timing mode Internal clock (default) Line clock 3-11

6 If the power supply is +48V, connect the device + pole with power +48V pole, the device pole with power GND. +24V power supply must be used with DC+24V model device: Fig 4. Otherwise the equipment may be caused the forever damages and we won t take any responsibility because of this! One is marked by, it is parallel interface. It can connect to the network card s LAN interface by parallel UTP or to HUB or SWITCH by intercross UTP. The other is marked by, it is intercross interface. The way of connection is contrary to the interface. Line clock (ON): The clock recovered from receiving E1 signal. NOTE: 1) Guarantee that there is only one Internal clock device in one chain. 2) Avoid that all device in one chain don t set to Line clock. If it is specific that Internal clock existed in the chain, set the device Line clock. If not, set the device Internal clock. DHCP Settings (SW-2, SW-3) Bit 2, Bit 3 of SW (SW-2, SW-3) enable/disable DHCP packets filtering function as to filter/un-filter DHCP packets, set as below: SW Function SW-2 SW-3 Default OFF ON DHCP Filtering Enable OFF ON Disable ON OFF Table 7. DHCP filtering function settings NOTE: 1) When DHCP filtering enabled, DHCP client can t get IP address automatically. 2) After this setting changed, the device must be reset to active the setting. Loopback Settings (SW-4) SW-4 bit is set ON, DIG: Local digital loopback The digital loopback switch causes the local E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN) to loop digital transmitter output back to its receiver (from LAN interface to E1 interface of the local E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN). 8-11

9 Fig7. Local digital loopback NOTE: SW-4 bit is set ON, which will interrupt normal communications and turn into test. Chapter 3 Installation 1. Unpacking, checking the type and quantity of the device and fittings, according to the manifest. If you have any problem, please contact with our company or local agent. 2. Check the power setting of the E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN). If using DC input, please pay attention to voltage value and polarity. Then input 9-11

10 power on request and turn on power switch (please use the device conform to the condition require of this user manual). 3. Before using the device, perform the following tests: a) Check to see if all the loop test switches on the rear panel are released or not. At present, except the PWR and E1LOS indicators, all other indicators should be blackout. b) Choose one RJ45 port (Ethernet port). Insert the Ethernet cable. The LINK indicator of the E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN) will light up. Meanwhile, the LINK indicator of the device connected to the Ethernet port of the E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN) should also light up. 4. If the indicators on the device work just as the above described, release all the switches on the rear panel, and turn off the power. Set the time slot switches and clock as required. Insert the E1 input/output lines. Turn on the power. Then E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN) will go into proper working status. 5. If the device does not work as the above described, please refer to Chapter 4: Troubleshooting. If the troubles are still remaining, please contact our company or your local agent at once Chapter 4 Troubleshooting When E1/10&100Base-T Bridge (VLAN) is working, the LINK and PWR indicators should constantly light up, FDX 10/100M indicators lighting up base on the connected Ethernet equipment. All other indicators should black out. Symptom: E1LOS Indicator Lights up Examination: Use the E1 self-loop line to loop back between the 10-11

11 input and output of E1. If the indicator blacks out, examine the E1 input line. Please note that the correct way for making coaxial cables is: core connects to core, skin connects to skin, and the core and skin should not touch each other. Symptom: All indicators work well, but there is no responses to the PING command. Examination: Press the PATT on the local side, and ask the remote side to press DIG to loop back data signal to the local side. If the TEST indicator does not light up, this means that the E1 transmission channel has problems. Symptom: There are responses to the PING command, but some packages are lost. Examination: Check to see the making of cross lines and through lines of the Ethernet port. The correct method should be: pin1 and pin2 use the same pair of twisted pair, and pin3 and pin6 use the same pair of twisted pair
