5 Deploy IBM Spectrum Control Virtual Appliance into VMware ESXi V5.1 You can deploy the IBM Spectrum Control (IBMSC) virtual appliance into a VMware ESXi version 5.1 hypervisor environment by using the information in this document. About this task The following instructions are an example of how to deploy the IBMSC virtual appliance into a VMware ESXi/vSphere version 5.1 hypervisor environment. Procedure 1. Download the following files to a local directory in your VMware ESXi/vSphere version 5.1 hypervisor environment: v IBMSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.mf v IBMSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.ovf v IBMSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance-disk1.vmdk Where version is the latest released version of the IBMSC software. For example, On the vshpere 5.1 Client menu bar, select File -> Deploy OVF Template On the Source page, complete the following steps: a. Click Browse... 1

6 b. Go to the local directory where you downloaded the IBMSC virtual appliance files and select IBMSC-version-POC-VirtualAppliance.ovf c. Click Open d. Click Next 2 Deploy IBM Spectrum Control Virtual Appliance into VMware ESXi V5.1

7 4. On the OVF Template Details page, review the information about the IBMSC virtual appliance and click Next 5. On the Name and Location page, enter a valid name for the virtual machine that gets created when you deploy the IBMSC virtual appliance and click Next Deploy IBM Spectrum Control Virtual Appliance into VMware ESXi V5.1 3

11 Depending on your VMware ESXi/vSphere version 5.1 hypervisor environment, the deployment of the IBMSC virtual appliance takes approximately 15 minutes. 9. In the vsphere version 5.1 Client, go to the Inventory view 10. In the navigation pane of the vsphere version 5.1 Client, right-click on your virtual machine and select Power -> Power On Deploy IBM Spectrum Control Virtual Appliance into VMware ESXi V5.1 7

12 11. Right-click on the powered-on virtual machine and select Open Console 12. In the virtual machine console, the configuration starts automatically. Add the following information when prompted by the configuration script: a. The IPv4 address for the virtual machine b. The gateway IPv4 address for the virtual machine c. The netmask IPv4 address for the virtual machine d. The primary domain name service server IPv4 address for the virtual machine e. The secondary domain name service server IPv4 address for the virtual machine f. The host name for the virtual machine (for example, myserver). When the script prompts for the host name, DO NOT enter the fully qualified domain name (for example, myserver.storage.mycompany.com), enter ONLY the host name (for example, myserver). g. The domain name for the virtual machine (for example, storage.mycompany.com). When the script prompts for the domain name, DO NOT enter the fully qualified domain name (for example, myserver.storage.mycompany.com), enter ONLY the domain name (for example, storage.mycompany.com) h. The time zone for the virtual machine (for example, America/Los_Angeles). See for more guidance. Results The configuration script completes the following actions: v Configures the operating system by using the provided information v Restarts the virtual machine and then automatically logs in v Installs and configures DB2 8 Deploy IBM Spectrum Control Virtual Appliance into VMware ESXi V5.1

13 v Installs and configures IBMSC v Starts the virtual machine's graphical user environment, where you log in with user name = root and password = vsc4demo Log in to the virtual machine's graphical user environment and open the IBM_Spectrum_Control_version_Appliance_README on the desktop. If you do not enter correct networking information at the prompts, then the virtual machine or the IBMSC system might not function properly. In the virtual machine's graphical user environment (GUI), open the IBM_Spectrum_Control_version_Install_Log shortcut on the desktop to examine the IBM Spectrum Control installation message log for errors. In this situation, shut down the virtual machine, delete the virtual machine from your hypervisor environment, and start again by redeploying the virtual appliance into your hypervisor environment.
